(This is a non running, non operable vehicle). This is a rare "Barn Find" ....except it has not been in a barn but stored in a nice dry facility since 1993. During the past 20 years it has not seen rain, snow, sleet, the sun or any other similar elements! This is an unmolested original car  and  is probably the nicest restorable Datsun z that I have seen in this area! It is a 3 owner car. The vehicle is 99% complete...I can only find that the radio, the inspection covers for the taillights, spare tire,  shift boot,  and a Z emblem are missing! The body is exceptional, and I see no sign of accident except for the rocker panel under the driver door (see photo). Paint is very good, and could probably be buffed out to look nice....sorry, but I cannot explain the primer shown. Very little rust, except where shown in photos, and these are only small surface rust spots....I've tried to show all of this in the photos. INTERIOR: Door panels appear as new. Dash has typical splits for this age era. Seats are great, except the cushions/bottoms need recovering. Steering wheel, console and other dash components appear to be in nice shape. Rubber around windshield, back glass and doors appear to be in exceptional condition and do not need replacing.  This car is equipped with air conditioning.

ENGINE AND DRIVE COMPONENTS:  Brakes are not locked up and car rolls freely. E-brake operates as it should. Clutch pedal feels good and 4 speed transmission shifts as you would expect. A battery was connected and THE ENGINE TURNS OVER FREELY WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH. No, it did not start...as should be expected of a vehicle parked for 20 years! However, the owner indicated it was running well when he replaced the vehicle with another and parked this z in 1993. The tires are the same ones as when the car was parked 20 years ago...they have plenty of tread but are dry rotted and are not suitable for the road.

A 77 front bumper was on the car, but removed for towing. You may have your choice of the 77 bumper or the original 76 bumper.

This is a great car for anyone who wants to make it into a very nice and driveable z car...with the stock motor or a V8. The car is in amazing shape but you be the judge, based upon the photos shown. This is a difficult car to find, not because of its age but its condition. Clear title is available for transfer.

Please email me should you have questions. If you are near Greensboro, NC I would be delighted to show you the vehicle.

A Paypal deposit of $200.00 is required within 24 hours and the balance within 5 days in the form of cashiers check, bank transfer, or money order.

Renault planning a Tata Nano rival. Again.

Wed, 28 Nov 2012

Four years ago, Renault confirmed that it would partner with India's Bajaj Auto to develop a rival to the Tata Nano. At the time, as everyone waited for the Tata Nano to arrive, you could have used a Richter scale to measure the tremors the executive suites of any automaker with an interest in the low end of emerging markets. Then the Nano, still the cheapest car in the world, didn't sell so well - at the end of last year its sales were just six percent of its most conservative projections - and everyone seemed content to let Tata spend the money to figure out if there really was a market for the cheapest car in the world.
Renault believes there is, kind of. Automotive News Europe reports that it will partner with Nissan to build two low-priced cars for emerging markets, one for €3,000 ($3,888 U.S.) and another for €5,000 ($6,400 U.S.). The price of the least expensive offering is nearly $1,400 more than a Nano, which costs $2,500, and that can't be considered a small sum in comparison. But one of the hindsight knocks on the Nano has been that even in emerging markets buyers don't want a car whose biggest lure is that it is cheap; they'd rather give their aspirations a bit more of a workout.
Renault's offerings are scheduled to hit the non-Western market in late 2014, which is coincidentally the same year that will see the return of the budget-minded and emerging-market-specific Datsun nameplate. They'll be built in Renault facilities in Chennai, India, with no mention made of Bajaj this time around.

Datsun previews new budget sedan for Russia [w/video]

Thu, 13 Mar 2014

Nobody does cars on the cheap quite like the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The former part of the equation already has its Dacia brand of cost-effective, no-frills vehicles that have become a favorite of Top Gear co-host James May, and last summer, the latter revived its Datsun nameplate for a budget brand of its own.
The reborn Datsun launched in India this past July with its Go hatchback, returned in September with the Go+ minivan and revealed the Redi-Go concept just last month. And now it's given us our first look at an upcoming budget sedan developed specifically for the Russian market.
The as-yet unnamed vehicle (which we'll bet will incorporate the word "go" into its nameplate somehow) is set to debut on April 4, where it will launch the Datsun brand in Russia. Few details are available at this point, but the low-cost sedan was designed in Japan to offer Russian drivers "an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility at the right and transparent price, with a competitive Total Cost of Ownership."

Nissan IDx 'in the plan' for production, needs support from fans [w/poll]

Wed, 15 Jan 2014

If there's a trend in the auto industry we can firmly get behind, it's the small, light and affordable rear-drive coupe. The positive critical reception to the Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ twins has encouraged other manufacturers to look at building their own rear drivers, and even a few to show actual concept cars based on the idea. The Chevrolet Code 130R from 2012 and more recently, the Nissan IDx twins that were first shown at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show both come to mind, as does the brand-new Kia GT4 Stinger Concept.
Nissan trotted out the IDx Nismo and the IDx Freeflow for another showing in Detroit and we'll admit to being totally smitten with both cars. Again. The duo draw inspiration from the iconic Datsun 510, a lightweight, affordable rear-driver that remains a cult favorite decades after production ended.
Now, a report from our friends at AutoWeek reveals that we may, possibly, hopefully see a production IDx, provided fans make a strong enough case for it. "It's in the plan," Nissan product boss Andy Palmer told AW. According to the report, Palmer said the IDx is "into the first sage of the development process. The next stage is project validation and then looking at the business case. It's no one's intent to waste millions of the company's money, so obviously we have a good feeling about this one."
