Up for sale is my 2002 Chrysler Sebring, which I have had since August 2006.  It has been good for me overall as my daily driver for nearly eight years, though it has started showing signs of age and higher mileage.

For full disclosure, here are the known defects or issues with the car:
  • Starter fuel/ignition fuse has blown OCCASIONALLY, though this has not happened in nearly a year.  If it ever does happen again, the car would not start until the fuse (a mini 20 amp) is replaced.  One technician tested the system and said the alternator and starter and those sorts of things all seemed fine, but the battery was low, so I replaced the battery last June.  The issue with the fuse happened once or twice since then and not for several months since.  I list it merely because the true cause was never really found, and I wouldn't want anyone to buy the car and be surprised if it ever does happen again.
  • There is some rust under the hood of the car, on the bottom of at least one door, and on the underside of the vehicle.
  • The back right door does not respond well to the automatic door lock button, either on the keychain or on the driver's side door.  It will sometimes lock or unlock as it should, but it is always accompanied by an angry noise.
  • In mid January of this year, during a particularly icy day, the car slid from the left lane of the highway into the right line, tapping into the side of a truck.  This caused the dent in the passenger door frame and cracks in the windshield.  This hasn't effected drive-ability of the car or use of the door at all, though it wouldn't pass PA inspection (not until October).
  • In the last month or so, the car developed an unknown issue which the service shop suspected had something to do with the transmission.  It was almost as if the car wasn't fully shifting into drive or staying in drive.  I found myself driving home one day, nearly flooring the accelerator and waiting for the gas to kick in and continue moving forward.  Since I was having issues getting up to speed and staying at speed, I ended up having the car towed to the shop.  After consultation with the shop crew, we decided to try some simpler fixes, such as replacing transmission sensors and fluids.  Doing this supposedly fixed the issue for the technician, as he said he could drive it around for 4-5 miles without any problem.  I, however, had the same issues, within half a mile of leaving the shop.  I'm not looking to put any more money into this car, and I need to upgrade anyway to a bigger vehicle for my growing family.  But because of this transmission issue, I can't guarantee how long the car will work properly the next time it's driven.  It could go for five miles or five hundred, and since there's no guarantee I strongly recommend that anyone who buys this car should plan on getting it towed.  I'm not driving it anymore and have already dropped insurance on it.
Even with all that said, there are some nice things to this car:
  • Smoke-free vehicle
  • Deep-cleaned inside and out
  • When the transmission does work, car has good pickup with six cylinders
  • 6-disc CD changer is nice for having variety without manually changing CDs.
  • New battery as of June 2013
  • New transmission fluid and sensors
  • Fairly new brakes (though I can't remember date of installation)
  • Decent size trunk space
  • Inspection is good until October.
  • I have a brand new oil and air filter for this car, which I'll include for FREE.
As for the vehicle's history:
  • My wife and I have been the only drivers since I got the car from a dealer in 2006, though my dad technically bought the car and would probably show up as an owner in the vehicle history.
  • Before the dealer in 2006, I believe the car only had one prior owner, but I could be mistaken.
Shipping and payments:
  • Buyer will need to arrange for pickup--most likely a tow truck for reasons stated above.  As this car is likely selling low and possibly just for parts, I will not be able to assist the buyer in any pickup or transfer title fees.  Please consider these costs before bidding.
  • A deposit via paypal will be required upon sale.  The remainder balance must be cash on pickup.
Thanks for looking, and I hope the length of this description hasn't overwhelmed you!  Feel free to contact me with questions.  Potential buyers can also stop by to look at car, but not test-drive as it's no longer insured or road-safe until some more work is done.

Fiat Chrysler to get $105M fine from NHTSA for recall woes

Sun, Jul 26 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is about to send a powerful message to automakers doing business in the United States, assuming reports of an upcoming $105 million fine against Fiat Chrysler Automobiles comes to fruition. In addition to the record-setting monetary fine, according to The Wall Street Journal, FCA will have to accept an independent auditor that will monitor the company's recall and safety processes and will be forced to buy back certain recalled vehicles. In other cases, such as with Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty models with gas tanks that could potentially catch fire in certain types of accidents, FCA will offer financial encouragement for owners to get their recall work done or to trade those older vehicles in on new cars, according to the report. FCA could reportedly reduce its fines if it meets certain conditions, though those remain unclear at this time. These actions against FCA are being taken after NHTSA began a probe into the automaker over almost two dozen separate instances where the government claims FCA failed to follow proper procedures for recalls and safety defects. Included in those safety lapses are more than 11 million vehicles currently in customer hands. These penalties and fines are separate from the investigation over security problems with Chrysler's Uconnect system that allowed hackers to obtain remote access into key vehicle systems in 1.4 million vehicles. The Grand Caravan, at least the name, isn't dead yet in Canada

Mon, Jul 20 2020

Last week we got Stellantis. This week, we’re learning that the Grand Caravan name isnÂ’t actually dead. ItÂ’s just moved to Canada. Allow us to explain. The Dodge Grand Caravan is well and truly gone. However, FCA has decided the name is too good not to use. Therefore, FCA Canada just announced that Canadians will get the Chrysler Grand Caravan for the 2021 model year. One look at the photos will tell you most everything you need to know about the van. ItÂ’s a rebadged Chrysler Voyager, which itself is a budget Chrysler Pacifica by a different name. Basically, the U.S. gets the Voyager, and Canada gets the Grand Caravan. “WeÂ’re incredibly proud to maintain the ‘Grand CaravanÂ’ nameplate exclusively in the Canadian marketplace,” said David Buckingham, President and CEO, FCA Canada. “Particularly here in Canada, that name has become synonymous with affordable, safe and innovative family transportation that the 2021 Chrysler Grand Caravan builds upon.” Now that the Voyager and Caravan are the same again, the next logical step would be to bring back Plymouth, right? Rebadged Plymouth Hellcats wouldnÂ’t bother us. Just Â… you know, an idea. Canadian customers will have the choice of two trims for the Grand Caravan: Base and SXT. Similar to the U.S., upper trim levels of the van will be called Pacifica. The two will be sold alongside each other at Chrysler dealerships. Photos of the Pacifica with the Grand Caravan badge already have us a little weirded out, but now youÂ’ll know whatÂ’s going on during your next trip up north when you see a Chrysler Grand Caravan roll by. 2022 New York Auto Show Roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures

Fri, Apr 15 2022

NEW YORK — In case you missed it, the New York Auto Show took place this year after being canceled in both 2020 and 2021 due to Covid. A lot of manufacturers showed up in force, but not everybody did. No matter, we were there, and we brought you news, photos and scoops from the floor throughout the show. All of our New York-related stories can be found at our central hub here, but if youÂ’d rather just get a small taste of everything in a quick and digestible format, keep scrolling. 2023 Kia Telluride and its new X-Pro trim Kia revealed the TellurideÂ’s first major refresh at New York, and it makes the three-row crossover a little bit more desirable without screwing up what we liked about it before. ThereÂ’s a new X-Line and X-Pro trim for someone who might want a little more off-road capability, and a number of tech improvements. Most notably, a newly-designed dash features new and bigger screens. 2023 Hyundai Palisade The TellurideÂ’s sister car from Hyundai was treated to a similar refresh. Like the Telluride, Hyundai gave the Palisade a slightly revised look, a new off-road trim (called XRT in the PalisadeÂ’s case), more tech inside and a new dash design with full-width air vents. If we had to choose, weÂ’re a little more impressed with the TellurideÂ’s refresh, as a number of us on staff actually prefer the pre-refresh Palisade styling over the new one. 2023 Jeep Wagoneer L and Grand Wagoneer L This one was inevitable. Jeep revealed the longer, roomier versions of its Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer in New York, and theyÂ’re designated with an “L” at the end of their names. Total length grows by a foot, and the wheelbase goes up by 7 inches versus the standard Wagoneer models. Jeep has essentially allocated all this extra room to the cargo area, as it now offers a staggering 44.2 cubic-feet of space behind the third row. Besides the L, Jeep announced that its new Hurricane inline-six engine would find its first home in the Wagoneer. Efficiency gets a small boost, and power is more than sufficient at either 420 horsepower (standard output) or 510 horsepower (high-output version) from the twin-turbo I-6. Chrysler Airflow Graphite Concept The Stellantis party continues with Chrysler and its slightly revised Airflow. Re-styled for the New York market after initially debuting at CES in Las Vegas, the Airflow Concept gets new paint, changed accent colors, a slightly changed interior design and a new interpretation of the Chrysler logo.
