This is an extremely well maintained, clean car, always driven by non smoking adults, without kids or pets. It has never been wrecked or abused

I am the second owner, the original owner having been a personal friend, from whom I purchased it 6 years ago.

The car has always been serviced by professionals, mainly at a Chrysler dealer by the original owner, or by me, the second owner, a professional auto tech.

They say about real estate that it's all about location, location, location. With cars, in my experience, it's not about the year the car was built, or even how many miles it has travelled. It's about condition, condition, condition. And condition is determined by three things: maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. Could you buy a car for less than my reserve? Yes, you could. Could you buy a car in this condition for less that will pass Maryland state inspection? I don't believe you could.

The exterior color is Steel Blue Pearlcoat. It has a tan cloth interior.

Features include:

Dual front air bags

Air conditioning
Power steering and brakes
Keyless Entry with 2 remotes and keys
Power door locks
Power windows, fronts with "auto down" feature
Power mirrors with defrosters and "fold in" feature for on street parking
Factory color keyed carpeted floor mats
Dual front vanity mirrors
Luggage compartment shelf/cover
Reclining/adjustable front seat backrests
Split folding rear seat back rest
Multiple possible seating arrangements for hauling/moving large objects (see photos)
AM//FM/CD/Cassette stereo sound system
Rear privacy glass, great for filtering out the heat of summer sun

I am not a dealer, but I am a professional auto tech. It has had routine service with an oil/filter change at least every 3000 miles, usually more frequently, never less.

Recent service history is as follows:

At 102,000 miles, I went over the car carefully and did the following:

Replaced timing belt, and tensioner bearing
Replaced water pump
Replaced serpentine belts and tensioner bearing
Replaced both front wheel hub bearings
Replaced both front lower suspension arm bushings
Replaced front sway bar bushings
Replaced rear shock absorbers
Installed zerk (grease) fittings in lower ball joints to permit periodic lubrication
Drained, flushed, refilled cooling system

Most recently I went over the car carefully and did the following to it to bring its maintenance up to date:

1. Installed new front brake pads

2. Overhauled both front brake calipers

3. Completed fresh engine oil and filter change, and a check of all fluid levels, tire pressures, etc.

4. Replaced spark plugs, checked engine compression (excellent), cleaned throttle body

5. Checked battery condition (good), cleaned/serviced terminals/clamps

6. Completed a general check of car under hood and underneath

7. Installed new wiper blades, front and rear

8. Installed four brand new tires

This car is equipped with the 5 speed manual transmission, which makes it fun to drive, and provides better fuel economy. If you have never driven a PT with the 5 speed, you will be surprised at the car's performance. It is smooth, peppy, and quiet, with a much more powerful feel than the automatic transmission version. If you can drive a stick, you will love this car. It has the easiest clutch and shifting operation of any car I have ever owned.

The car starts instantly, runs quietly, and drives smoothly.. The transmission shifts perfectly, the A/C system blows ice cold air, and the heater is strong.

It has no rattles, clunks, squeaks or other noises while underway.

Everything on the car works as it should, from the hand held remote lock fobs to the CD player/radio sound system.

The sale includes a factory cover in excellent condition.

With just over 120K and 2 careful owners in its past, this car has many miles and years of life ahead of it.

It has no significant dents but does have a few small dings and light surface scratches, nothing terrible, just things to be expected in a car a few years old. The most significant flaw in the exterior is a chip on the right side of the rear bumper. If you zoom the photo of the back of the car, and look carefully at the right side of the bumper, you will see it. It could probably be repaired, but I never considered it a serious flaw.

The interior is spotless.

I have worked on lots of cars over the years, and I think this car is every bit as good as the much sought after Asian cars, and at lower costs.. Popular Asian cars, such as Nissan, Honda, or Toyota are good, but equally true is that many domestics are underrated, and the PT Cruiser is one of those highly underrated models.

It is a very comfortable, spacious, solid, reliable car.

I have put it up for sale because I am now semi-retired, use it very little, and will be moving into less space.

If you are interested in the car, I encourage you to inspect it personally. It has a current, valid Maryland emissions inspection certificate, and if you live in Maryland and require a Maryland state safety inspection certificate, I would be happy to have the car inspected. If you live in Maryland, this is required prior to registering it as a new owner.

If you are looking for a nice, meticulously maintained car for an affordable price, this is an opportunity. I live just outside Washington, D.C., which is where the car is located. If you have any questions, email me and I will do my best to answer them. I have advertised the car for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early. I would ask that you bid only if you are serious about buying the car, and I thank you for your interest in reading my listing.

Pentastar Power: A look inside the Detroit factory that pumps out FCA's potent V6

Tue, Mar 14 2017

The Mack Avenue Engine Plant is one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' most historic and prolific factories. It pumped out 260,000 Pentastar V6 engines last year, providing power for everything from the Jeep Grand Cherokee to the Dodge Challenger. FCA and its predecessor, Chrysler, has owned the factory since 1953 and it briefly built the Dodge Viper in the 1990s. It's made engines since 1998 and began building the Pentastar in 2014. We got an inside look at the mighty Mack, helping to tear down a Pentastar engine and then a tour of the factory floor. This is what it's like. That thing got a Hemi? Mopar engine kits make it easier to say yes

Wed, Nov 2 2016

Thanks to a new kit from Mopar, classic car owners will have an easier time dropping Hemis into their muscle cars. The kit works with Mopar's 345 and 392 Hemi engines (5.7 and 6.4 liters respectively) and with cars built before 1975. The kit will run $1,795 and has everything needed to get one of the above engines running. The parts include a power distribution system, engine computer, engine and chassis wiring harnesses, O2 and intake air temperature sensors, ground wiring and a gas pedal. The kit is also designed to work with a manual transmission, but Mopar says a transmission such as the Torqueflite 727 and 904 can be made to work with the system. As for examples of the kit in action, take a look at the Jeep CJ66 and Dodge Challenger Shakedown that Mopar revealed this week at the SEMA show. Mopar also offers a few other parts to help complete the project, including various oil pans to clear subframes, a set of headers, and accessory drives for power steering and air conditioning. All of these parts are extra cost though. You'll also need an engine, and the 345 starts at $6,070, and the 392 runs $9,335. However, if you happen to already have one from 2014 or newer, that will work, too. Muscle car fans are getting more choices for their engine conversions. Chevrolet Performance already sells crate engines with "Connect and Cruise" kits to get its engines working in classic cars. The General also offers it with more engines. However, for people who want to keep a Mopar engine in their classic Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, or Jeep, this is a cool new option. Junkyard Gem: 1987 Chrysler Conquest TSi

Wed, Dec 19 2018

If you feel like stumping your friends with a very trivial car-trivia question, try this one: What car model was sold in the United States with badging from Plymouth, Dodge, and Chrysler? They'll tell you it's the Neon, which was badged as a Chrysler outside of the USA, and you'll point out the "in the United States" qualification and feel smug in your superior automotive knowledge. The correct answer is, of course, the Conquest, which was a rebadged Mitsubishi Starion. Here's a Chrysler Conquest TSi, found in a Denver-area self-service wrecking yard. The TSi was the factory-hot-rod version of the Conquest, with intercooling for its 2.6-liter Mitsubishi Astron four-cylinder engine and 176 horsepower— pretty serious for 1987. For 1984 through 1986, the Conquest could be had with either Dodge or Plymouth branding; the 1987-1989 Conquests are all Chryslers. This one is rough, though the odometer shows that it never even reached 150,000 miles. Here's a Grateful Dead sticker, presumably bought on Shakedown Street at some point before Jerry Garcia's death in 1995. TURBO was a powerful word during the 1980s, so much so that the Starion/Conquest came with seat belts emblazoned with the sacred word. I still see the occasional Starion or Conquest during my junkyard travels, but the Chrysler Conquest is the rarest version these days. This content is hosted by a third party.
