I am selling my ultra rare 1961 Chrysler Newport 2 door coupe. The car received a body up restoration 12 years ago and was driven only a very few miles since, then was garaged with the door down.I recently pulled it out of long storage (3 years) and now it needs to go to someone who will enjoy it and use it as she deserves.
This model is almost impossible to find anymore, and the 300 versions are going well over the 40K mark now. These are the identical same car to the 300, just with minor side trim differences and grill. The previous owner I bought it from added the highly desirable 'cross ram' induction set up (dual carbs) to the stock 361 V8. Now the bonus with this car is it now has the 300 bucket seats instead of the factory bench seat. Now I have had some folks tell me it may be the 413 motor which the 300's had, but I do not know how to confirm this?
The original carbs are long gone & have been replaced with more reliable & efficient Edelbrock 600cfm carbs. But other than that, she retains all the original parts. It has the infamous push button automatic changer on the left side of the dash mated to the indestructible 727 Torque Flight auto. It is complemented with these 17" chrome wheels with 275x55x17 rears with 235x55x17 fronts. These were factory drum brake cars as was the 300. I do not have the original wheels or caps. This is how I bought the car.
As you can see, it has a gorgeous metallic silver paint (originally red?) and laser straight all over. The bumpers still look & shine like new and are just perfect, as is ALL the glass, which this car has a LOT of! The interior was redone in a classic white tuck & roll style with new black carpeting, which looks marvelous against the outer paint & chrome wheels.
The car runs & drives just fine, but after sitting so long, I noticed recently it has developed a few minor issues which I have not got the time or energy to do. Simple things like the front/rear turn signals aren't flashing anymore, the 'Astrodome' speedometer has stopped working and it's gauges, yet the under dash gauges are working, so probably a short? So nothing major that could not be fixed in a day, as these were all working once.
Bottom line here is that you will have one of the rarest & most beautifully designed cars out there. You will NEVER see one at a show or for sale, you will have EVERYBODY ask you what is it? and ultimately, be the proud owner of the last year of Virgil M. Exner's forward look finned Mopars! (57-61)
Now remembering...there were only 1200 '300' coupes made for 1961 and 9405 of these Newport coupes. How many are left today...?
I have 125 more detailed pictures of this car here on the link below. Just click it once to open it up & view them:

78k Chrysler 200 sedans recalled for stalling
Mon, Aug 17 2015Chrysler has been at the top of our list of recalls lately, and is showing little sign of dropping down. The latest campaign announced from Auburn Hills affects nearly 80,000 units over a problem that could see the vehicle suddenly stall or shift into neutral unexpectedly. According to the automaker's statement below, the issue primarily affects the 2015 Chrysler 200. However it indicates that unspecified "additional vehicles are also included in the campaign." Of the 77,834 units affected by the recall, the vast majority – nearly 70k – are in the United States. Another 7,115 are located in Canada, 848 in Mexico, and another 19 outside of North America. The problem stems from some electrical connectors that may have been damaged by the supplier during post-production validation tests. FCA stresses, however, that it is "unaware of any related injuries or accidents" resulting from this issue, and that the glitch may or may not be "accompanied by a dashboard warning-light illumination." Airbag function is reportedly unaffected. Related Video: Statement: Electrical Connectors August 14, 2015 , Auburn Hills, Mich. - FCA US LLC is conducting a voluntary safety recall to correct a condition in an estimated 77,834 U.S.-market sedans that may lead to engine stall or gearshift to neutral. The Company is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. The condition, which may be accompanied by a dashboard warning-light illumination, does not affect air-bag function. An investigation by FCA US revealed some electrical connectors were damaged when the supplier conducted post-production validation tests. Affected are certain 2015 Chrysler 200 midsize sedans. Additional vehicles also are included in campaign. Of these, approximately 7,115 are in Canada; 848 are in Mexico; and 19 are outside the NAFTA region Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which will be performed free of charge. Chrysler Pacifica reportedly getting updated design and eAWD system for 2021
Mon, Dec 30 2019Chrysler is preparing to give the Pacifica and Voyager minivans a comprehensive mid-cycle update, according to a new report. Both models are scheduled to make their debut in early 2020. The Pacifica currently shares styling cues with the 200, a sedan discontinued after the 2017 model year. The team of stylists tasked with updating it returned from the design well inspired by the third-generation Town & Country released for the 1996 model year, and the 300, the firm's only sedan. Mopar Insiders described a sportier look characterized by a bigger grille, and sharper-looking headlights with LED accents. New-look rear lights connected by a light bar will round out the nip and tuck. The publication added camouflaged prototypes will hit the road in early 2020. The Voyager added to the range for the 2020 model year is a cheaper, less equipment-rich variant of the Pacifica. While it will receive the same updates as its more expensive sibling, it might not come standard with the aforementioned LEDs. Expect other minor trim differences inside and out, too, but the two nameplates will continue to share a basic design. The Dodge Grand Caravan is finally retiring in 2020, so the Voyager will become the ever-important entry point into the group's minivan range. The same report sheds light on the mechanical changes Chrysler has in store. The firm will give buyers in the market for an all-wheel-drive minivan an alternative to the Toyota Sienna by adapting Jeep's plug-in hybrid technology to the Pacifica. Called eAWD, the system consists of a battery-driven electric motor integrated into the rear axle. It delivers through-the-road all-wheel drive, meaning there's no connection between the front and rear wheels, and clever packaging makes it compatible with Chrysler's Stow and Go seats. The gasoline-electric setup will make the Pacifica a rear-wheel drive electric car on short trips, while improving its gas mileage the rest of the time. There's no word yet on what will be under the hybrid, all-wheel-drive model's hood. Jeep's upcoming Compass and Renegade hybrids use a turbocharged, 1.3-liter four-cylinder, but that sounds a little bit small for a reasonably big van developed with the American market in mind. Motorists not interested in going hybrid will likely still have the venerable 3.6-liter V6. And, whether the Voyager will be eligible to receive the new hybrid powertrain remains unclear.
Auto investor Kirk Kerkorian dead at 98
Wed, Jun 17 2015Kirk Kerkorian, among the most talked-about investors in the American auto industry in recent memory, died at the age of 98 in Los Angeles on Monday, June 15. The billionaire ran the investment company Tracinda Corp. and was the largest shareholder in MGM Resorts International. Kerkorian attempted to use his power as a well-financed investor to push the auto industry in some fascinating ways. In 2006, he used his nearly 10-percent stake in General Motors to push a merger with the Renault-Nissan Alliance. The deal made it as far as discussions, but eventually fell through. Kerkorian also attempted to purchase Chrysler - twice. According to Automotive News, the first effort came in 1995 with a $22.8-billion offer for the automaker, and soon after it failed the company merged with Daimler. Then in 2007, Kerkorian was back with a bid for $4.5 billion, but things eventually fell to Cerberus. The billionaire finished the trifecta by buying up $1 billion in Ford stock in 2008 to make Kerkorian the single largest investor in the company. However, the situation didn't last long, and by the end of that year, he had unloaded the shares. According to Automotive News, Kerkorian was ranked by Forbes as the world's 41st richest man in 2008 with a net worth of $16 billion.
