UP FOR AUCTION IS MY UNCLE'S SUPER STRAIGHT AND SOLID 1950 CHRYSLER WINDSOR NEWPORT WITH ONLY 31,434 MILES.  IT IS A 2 DOOR HARDTOP!!!  THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW BY A WEALTHY FAMILY AND GIVEN TO THEIR MAID WHICH OWNED THE CAR UNTIL SHE PASSED AWAY.  THE CAR WAS THEN INHERITED BY HER FAMILY IN CALIFORNIA AND SOLD TO A CAR COLLECTOR AND PUT INTO A PRIVATE COLLECTION AS IT WAS.  OVER THE YEARS IT TRADED HANDS ONE MORE TIME TO ANOTHER PRIVATE CAR COLLECTION IN DALLAS TEXAS WHERE MY UNCLE PURCHASED IT FROM.  SO MOST OF THIS CARS LIFE IT HAS BEEN KEPT INSIDE AND ON DISPLAY.  IT HAS THE 251 6 CYLINDER ENGINE WHICH STARTS WITH A BUMP OF THE KEY AND PURRS LIKE A KITTEN.  IT HAS A STANDARD TRANSMISSION WITH FLUID DRIVE.  THIS CAR RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT!!  EXTERIOR IS IN REALLY NICE SHAPE FOR BEING 63 YEARS OLD WITH NO RESTORATION.

WITH THAT BEING SAID THE PAINT IS NOT PERFECT, BUT VERY NICE FOR ITS AGE.  TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR FENDER AND POSSIBLY THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR MAY HAVE BEEN REPAINTED AT ONE TIME, BUT NOT 100 % SURE ON THE DOOR.  IF YOU LOOK AT THEM JUST RIGHT IN THE RIGHT LIGHT THE YELLOW LOOKS A SHADE LIGHTER BUT NOT THAT NOTICEABLE TO SOMEONE WHO DIDN'T KNOW.  THE COLORS ARE ORIGINAL COLORS WHICH ARE PAGODA CREAM WITH A VICTORIA RED TOP( WHICH HAS BEEN REPAINTED RECENTLY AND LOOKS AS NEW OR BETTER).  THERE IS SLIGHT PATENA TO THE FILLER PANEL BETWEEN THE REAR BUMPER AND THE BODY AND ALSO ON THE TOP OF THE PASSENGER REAR FENDER WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN THE PICS.  ALSO ALL THE STAINLESS AND CHROME TRIM IS ORIGINAL SO SOME OF IT DOES SHOW ITS AGE WITH THE NORMAL PITTING WHICH IS COMMON ON THE OLD CHROME PLATED POT METAL.  THE STAINLESS TRIM IS IN REALLY GREAT SHAPE WITH ONLY ONE NOTICEABE DING JUST ABOVE THE ROCK GAURD TRIM ON THE PASSENGER REAR FENDER WHICH YOU CAN ALSO SEE IN ONE OF THE PICS.  CHROME BUMPERS ARE NICE AND STRAIGHT WITH MINIMAL AGING.
THE INTERIOR IS IN GREAT SHAPE AS WELL WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A SMALL TEAR IN THE TOP OF THE REAR SEAT NEAR THE SUN SHELF WHICH CAN BE SEEN IN ONE OF THE PICTURES.  ALL THE GAUGES WORK AS THEY SHOULD, AND THERE ARE NO CRACKS IN THE STEERING WHEEL. HAS A NICE PADDED DASH WHICH IS ORIGINAL.  THE ARM RESTS AT ONE TIME HAVE BEEN REDONE IN LEATHER AND LOOK GREAT. AS YOU CAN SEE THE TRUNK IS IN NICE SHAPE WITH ORIGINAL TRUNK MAT, SPARE, JACK, AND LUG WRENCH.  PRETTY SURE THE ORIGNAL SPARE HAS NEVER EVEN BEEN USED!!
THIS CAR IS NICE AND SOLID INSIDE AND OUT WITH NO RUST.  IT HAS RECENTLY GOTTEN A MINOR TUNE UP, NEW BATTERY, AND A NEW FUEL GAUGE SENDING UNIT.  THE ONLY THING THIS CAR COULD REALLY USE THAT HASN'T BEEN DONE IS A NEW SET OF TIRES BECAUSE WE ARE PRETTY SURE THESE MAY BE THE ORIGINALS THAT ARE ON IT AND ARE STARTING TO CRACK.  ALL 4 TUBES ARE GOOD AND DON'T LEAK.  THE TAILPIPE COULD BE REPLACED AS WELL FROM THE AXLE BACK SINCE IT HAS A FEW HOLES IN IT.  THESE ARE VERY MINOR THINGS CONSIDERING ITS AGE, BUT JUST WANT YOU TO KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT IT UP FRONT WITH NO SURPRISES.  WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THIS CAR GO TO A GOOD HOME AND CONTINUE PRESERVING THIS PIECE OF HISTORY.  ALSO TO THE WINNING BIDDER A SALES BROCHURE, OWNERS MANUAL, AND SHOP MANUAL WILL COME WITH THE CAR.

IF INTERESTED IN MORE INFO ON THIS CAR OR WOULD LIKE TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON AND DRIVE IT YOU CAN CALL ROY SWORD AT 501-519-2477 OR CHRIS SWORD AT 501-541-0889.  PLEASE NO CALLS AFTER 10PM  I DO HAVE THIS CAR FOR SALE LOCALLY AND HAVE THE RIGHT END AUCTION EARLY IF NEEDED.  PLEASE SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY!!  $500 DEPOSIT REQUIRED WITHIN 48 HOURS OF AUCTION END AND PAYMENT IN FULL IS REQUIRED WITHIN 7 DAYS AUCTION END.  BUYER IS RESPONSIBLE FOR PICKUP.

Fiat Chrysler dumped 40,000 unordered vehicles on dealers

Thu, Nov 14 2019

In a move that echoes recent history, Fiat Chrysler has been making more cars and trucks than dealers in the U.S. are willing to accept, with Bloomberg reporting that at one point the automaker had built up a glut of around 40,000 unordered vehicles. That’s led some dealers to accuse FCA of reviving the dreaded “sales bank” accounting practice of obscuring inventory to improve the balance sheet. The company reportedly began building up its inventory of unordered cars this summer despite an industrywide slowdown in sales and an eagerness by some dealers to thin their inventories because rising interest rates are making it more expensive to hold unsold cars. The inventory build-up also coincided with Fiat ChryslerÂ’s efforts to find a merger partner, first with Renault, which fell through, then last monthÂ’s announcement that it will merge with FranceÂ’s PSA Group. FCA denies any such scheme and tells Bloomberg the rising inventory is down to a new predictive analytics system designed to better square supply with demand from dealers that is helping the company save money and narrow the numbers of unsold vehicles. The company recently agreed to pay a $40 million civil penalty to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to settle a complaint that it paid dealers to report fake sales figures over a span of five years. While no one is suggesting that FCA is in dire financial straits — the company saw higher than expected earnings in the third quarter and record profits in North America — the practice has strong historical precedent by Chrysler, which built up bloated inventories in the run-up to its two federal bailouts, in 1980 and 2009. It was also common at GM and Ford during the 2000s, when all three Detroit automakers struggled with excess manufacturing capacity and plummeting sales in the lead-up to the Great Recession. Back in 2012, CFO Magazine wrote about a report that explained automakersÂ’ rationale for the practice and how it works: Say fixed costs for a given factory are $100, and that the factory can make 50 cars. Consumers, however, demand only 10. Under absorption costing, if the company makes all 50 cars, its cost-per-car is $2. If it makes only up to demand, or 10 cars, the cost-per-car is $10. Although each car adds variable costs for steel and other parts, if those costs are low, the company still has an incentive to make more cars to keep the cost-per-car down.

FCA nears plea deal in diesel emissions fraud probe

Wed, Oct 27 2021

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is nearing an agreement to plead guilty to criminal conduct to resolve a multiyear emissions fraud probe surrounding Ram pickup trucks and Jeep sport-utility vehicles with diesel engines, people familiar with the matter said. FCA lawyers and U.S. Justice Department officials are brokering a plea deal that could be unveiled in coming weeks and include financial penalties totaling between $250 million and $300 million, the people said. Such a resolution with FCA, which is now part of Stellantis NV, would come more than four years after Volkswagen AG pleaded guilty to criminal charges  to resolve its own diesel-emissions scandal involving nearly 600,000 vehicles. It would also mark the final significant chapter in the government crackdown on automakers' emissions practices that was precipitated by Volkswagen's deception, which became known as "Dieselgate." The FCA investigation focuses on roughly 100,000 diesel-powered vehicles that allegedly evaded emissions requirements. The plea negotiations are fluid and some terms, including the size of any financial penalties, could change as discussions continue, the people said. Justice Department officials are preparing paperwork that will likely be negotiated with FCA to finalize the plea deal, which could result in changes and also present an outside chance for the agreement to fall apart, the people said. A plea agreement would cap a series of investigations dating back to 2015 surrounding diesel-powered vehicles in FCA's U.S. lineup. The current criminal investigation targets the U.S unit of the Italian-American automaker. The affected vehicles span model years 2014 to 2016. Representatives for FCA parent Stellantis and the Justice Department declined to comment. The scandals over emissions cheating tarnished diesel technology and accelerated the industry's shift to electric vehicles. The European automakers had promoted "clean diesel" technology as a way to reduce carbon dioxide emissions and ease a transition to an all-electric future. When regulators on both sides of the Atlantic uncovered evidence that diesel vehicles polluted far more in real world driving, the argument for a slower transition to battery electric vehicles was shredded. Now, automakers are accelerating battery electric vehicle development to comply with tougher, post-Dieselgate pollution standards.

US expands probe into ZF-TRW airbag failure-to-deploy to 12.3 million vehicles

Tue, Apr 23 2019

DETROIT — U.S. auto safety regulators have expanded an investigation into malfunctioning airbag controls to include 12.3 million vehicles because the bags may not inflate in a crash. The problem could be responsible for as many as eight deaths. Vehicles made by Toyota, Honda, Kia, Hyundai, Mitsubishi and Fiat Chrysler from the 2010 through 2019 model years are included in the probe, which was revealed Tuesday in documents posted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It involves airbag control units made by ZF-TRW that were installed in the vehicles. The control units can fail in a crash, possibly because of unwanted electrical signals produced by the crash itself that can disable an air bag control circuit housed in the passenger compartment, according to NHTSA documents. The electrical signals can damage the control circuit, the documents say. ZF, a German auto parts maker which acquired TRW Automotive in 2015, said in a statement that it's committed to safety and is cooperating with NHTSA and automakers in the investigation. The case is another in a long list of problems with auto industry airbags, including faulty and potentially deadly Takata airbag inflators. At least 24 people have been killed worldwide and more than 200 injured by the inflators, which can explode with too much force and hurl dangerous shrapnel into the passenger cabin. The inflators touched off the largest series of automotive recalls in U.S. history involving with as many as 70 million inflators to be recalled by the end of next year. About 100 million inflators are to be recalled worldwide. On April 19, NHTSA upgraded the ZF-TRW probe from a preliminary evaluation to an engineering analysis, which is a step closer toward seeking recalls. So far, only Hyundai and Kia and Fiat Chrysler have issued recalls in the case. Four deaths that may have been caused by the problem were reported in Hyundai-Kia vehicles and three in Fiat Chrysler automobiles. NHTSA opened an investigation in March of 2017 involving the TRW parts in Hyundais and Kias. The upgrade came after investigators found two recent serious crashes involving 2018 and 2019 Toyota Corollas in which the airbags did not inflate. One person was killed. Jason Levine, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, a nonprofit consumer group, said the ZF-TRW case shows the auto industry thus far has learned very little from Takata.
