1974 Chrysler New Yorker.  One family (three generations) owned since new.  Car has been always very well taken care of and garaged.  The car has also been regularly serviced over the years as scheduled and needed.  This is a somewhat unique car in that it was one of the last remaining large bodied Chryslers made, as the oil embargo of the late 1970s really was a game changer for automobile design at the time.. Chrysler in particular.  As such, few 1974 large Chryslers were sold that year.  Also somewhat interesting to note, is the fact that 1974 was the last year that cars were not required to be manufactured with catalytic converters as mandated by the Federal Government for 1975 and newer cars.  As such, the 1974 models could still run on “high-test” leaded fuel.  Being a “hardtop” also makes it a touch more special.

I would describe the overall condition of the car to be very good, not perfect, but very good.  If you are looking for a Pebble Beach or Greenwich concours winner, this would not be your car.  If you are looking for a good solid car that presents well and you can have fun driving a somewhat unique car to your favorite local car shows or date nights, then I think you’ll be pleased for years to come.

Mechanically, the engine starts well and revs well until it is warmed up and then you can easily knock it down to a lower rpm by punching the gas pedal quickly – exactly as it was designed.  The car shifts through it’s three speed Torqueflite gears with ease and without issue.  The engine does not smoke or burn any noticeable oil to speak of.  The original am/fm stereo works well (don’t expect today’s sound quality or reception).  The heater/vent/ac systems all seem to work, but I would argue that the AC is a bit anemic and could benefit from a charge.  All power windows function as they should.  The car tracks down the road nicely and offers a comfortable ride without any odd noises or noticeable issues.  The odometer works and reads 73,985 miles and I believe this to be accurate, but I cannot confirm this officially – it may have been around once.

Cosmetically, I would describe the car as a 6-footer.  From 6 feet away, the car presents very nicely with decent shine on paintwork and chrome.  Closer inspection would reveal imperfections that 40 years of even light service would reflect.  The same could be said of the parchment color interior.  There are a couple small holes in the headliner, but the vinyl seats are all in good shape.  Several years ago, Brougham seats (front & back), that were a perfect color and size match for the more generic standard New Yorker seats, were installed to not only give a better look to the car, but to provide greater comfort.  The car has never been in any significant accident and posses all original sheet metal.

I have many OEM trim parts available for the car that I have collected over the years and I will make them available to the winning bidder.  Also included is a mint rear bumper (there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the one on the car, but the chrome is less than perfect).

In describing the condition of the car in any way, it should be noted that I am not an automotive professional, dealer or mechanic.  I have attempted to describe the car as accurately as possible as an automotive lay person.  All bidders and prospective buyers of this automobile MUST make their own assessments as to the condition of the car to satisfy their desires and needs – my description should be used as a general guide only.  The car will be available for viewing, driving and inspection at mutually convenient times and all must be performed prior to auction close.  The car is 40 years old – please consider this accordingly before you bid!  There is absolutely no warranty, guarantee or set aside for the sale of this car.  In other words, the car is being sold As-Is/Where-is.  Again, it is the bidder’s responsibility to thoroughly satisfy themselves with the overall condition of the car prior to bidding, and then bid accordingly.  The car does not come with a title, only because the State of Connecticut does not title cars manufactured prior to 1981.

The winning bidder is responsible for pick-up and delivery costs and arrangements.

Thank you for considering this car – I am sure it will make the right person happy!

Junkyard Gem: 1950 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe

Tue, May 8 2018

In 1950, shoppers in Chrysler showrooms had a choice between the low-end Royal, the midgrade Windsor, and the top-of-the-line New Yorker. This 1950 Windsor coupe managed to outlast nearly all of its contemporaries, finally coming to a halt in a wrecking yard just outside of Chicago. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. I stopped by this yard, Ashley's U-Pick-A-Part in Joliet, while I was working at the 24 Hours of Lemons Chicago race. When it comes to junkyard ambience, this one is nearly impossible to top (though Martin's Salvage in northeastern Colorado comes close), especially given its location: right across the street from the now-closed Joliet prison, best-known for its role in the opening sequence of " The Blues Brothers." Set on the grounds of an ancient, decaying factory, a large part of Ashley's inventory lives indoors in Rust Belt splendor. The star of the Chrysler section, this '50 Windsor has a place of honor and sits separate from your humdrum Avengers and Grand Cherokees. Because this is the Upper Midwest, the floors are more air than metal and big bites out of the rest of the car have been inflicted by the Rust Monster. Note the airbags inside the coil springs. The interior has long since been gutted, probably to live on in other, less rusty early-1950s Chrysler cars. The Windsor— and the body number makes it clear that this car did start life as a Windsor— came with a 251-cubic-inch Chrysler flathead six-cylinder engine. The New Yorker had a straight-eight flathead. V8s weren't available in Chryslers until the advent of the Hemi V8 the following year. This car may have had many engine swaps during its lifetime, but we have no way of knowing the details. Atop the rust and body filler, some lovingly applied stenciled-on flames. Someone felt proud of this car, even at the very end. Chrysler killing off the 200 Convertible, Dodge Avenger

Sun, 23 Feb 2014

When Chrysler rolled out the first-generation 200 to replace the Sebring range in 2010, it included replacements for both the sedan and the convertible. The Sebring Coupe, however, was left out of the mix. And now that the second-generation Chrysler 200 is descending upon us, Auburn Hills is paring things down even further. But this time, it's the convertible that reportedly isn't making the cut. Shame, too, since the rendering above shows what could have been quite an attractive droptop.
As our compatriots at Edmunds point out, sales of the convertible model accounted for less than five percent of overall Chrysler 200 sales, and at those numbers, the considerable cost of engineering a new drop-top couldn't be justified. With the Toyota Camry Solara and Volkswagen Eos also gone from the market (well, the VW isn't gone quite yet), the discontinuation of the Chrysler 200 Convertible leaves the affordable convertible segment largely to the sportier likes of the Ford Mustang and Chevy Camaro and smaller European offerings like the Mini Cooper and VW Beetle.
The Chrysler 200 Convertible isn't the only derivative being left behind with the new model: so too is the Dodge Avenger. That will leave a glaring hole in the Dodge lineup, with nothing to bridge the gap between the compact Dart and the larger Charger. Whether the Dodge brand has any plans to replace the Avenger with another model, not to be based on the 200, remains to be seen.

2019 Chrysler Pacifica and Dodge Grand Caravan 35th Anniversary Editions debut in Chicago

Mon, Feb 4 2019

Just ahead of the 2019 Chicago Auto Show, FCA revealed a pair of special editions to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original Dodge Caravan and Plymouth Voyager. The 2019 Chrysler Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid and Dodge Grand Caravan 35th Anniversary Edition models will make their full debut this week sporting special badging and paint. Since the original 1984 models debuted, Chrysler has sold more than 14.6 million minivans around the world. Chrysler introduced the original Caravan and Voyager in late 1983. The pair shared much with Lee Iacocca's storied K-platform. K-based models such as the Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon helped turn around Chrysler's fortunes in the early '80s. Likewise, the Caravan and Voyager were a huge success and provided the template for modern minivans including the Honda Odyssey and Toyota Sienna. The Pacifica and Grand Caravan 35th Anniversary Editions both come with an all-black interior featuring Cranberry Wine accent stitching on the seats, steering wheel, door trim, instrument panel bezels and door handles. There's also a 35th Anniversary logo on the floor mats plus badges on the grille and liftgate. The package is available on Pacifica Touring L, Touring L Plus and Limited trims, including hybrid models. An optional S package (blacked out trim) can be added to any 35th anniversary Pacifica. The anniversary package can be added to Grand Caravan SE and SXT models. The anniversary package will be available sometime this summer.
