1970 Chrysler Imperial LeBaron survivor car. First the bad: This original comes with original dings, dents, and scratches that a car will pick up from use, but all are minor. Some cracks on the rear corner markers from what appears to be a light swipe - both sides, unfortunately. Headliner in the rear driver-side corner is beginning to come loose, but is intact. Vinyl top under the rear window was repaired (underneath has some surface rust but is solid). Some sealing repair to the trunk - rubber seal was replaced with an alternative that honestly isn't cutting it. Radio is not factory, and there is a crack in the steering wheel. Motor could use a tune-up, and the front end could use adjustment to the alignment. Some of the interior stitching in the seats is beginning to stretch, but there are no rips or tears. Valve cover gasket has a slight leak, and the radiator is not original, but is still a chrysler manufacture. NOW THE GOOD: The interior carpet is immaculate - nice and plush, and not faded or threadbare. Paint is original, everything works (we haven't tried the AC - probably it needs a recharge), including those pesky diaphragms for the headlights! Some great details included are that ALL EMBLEMS are intact! All the chrome is nice and shiny - "imperial" lettering is all there and looking good. Hubcaps all bear the eagle emblem. Original rubber floor mat with crest. Even the extra seat belts mounted over the front doors are there! Somewhere in this car's history, somebody had the wherewithal to get the underside coated, and the result is that aside from surface rust on exposed heavy metal pieces, the fuel tank, floor pans, and so on are rust free. The body panels are also rust free with the exception of some surface rust at a few of the seams. Power windows and seats, and a very smooth ride. We can account for half of the car's life. Alternator is new, and new brake master cylinder seal makes for good stops. We have in the past year driven the car for several hours at a time, and it was smooth all the way. It is a TRUE SURVIVOR, and a great, rare find - one of only about 11,000 made. Odometer reads 21K, but likely it has flipped once and is 121K - 200k would make a lot more wear. Take a look at the pics - there is much to see and scrutinize, but you WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Please don't hesitate to ask any questions. Thanks for looking!

Stocks down as automakers, Boeing lead China's hit list in trade spat
Wed, Apr 4 2018Shares in U.S. exporters of everything from planes to tractors fell on Wednesday after China retaliated against the Trump administration's tariff plans by proposing duties on key U.S. imports including soybeans, beef and chemicals. U.S. automakers' products are prominent on China's list of tariff targets, yet shares of automakers ended higher on Wednesday as Wall Street stocks changed course in the afternoon when investors' trade fears subsided. Tesla shares closed 7.3 percent higher at $286.94, Ford shares gained 1.6 percent to close at $11.33, and GM shares were up 3 percent at $38.03. Aircraft maker Boeing closed down 1 percent, weighing the most on the Dow Jones Industrial Average as documents from China's Ministry of Commerce and the U.S. manufacturer showed the move would affect some older Boeing narrowbody models. It was not immediately clear how much the tariffs would impact its newer aircraft. Boeing said it was assessing the situation while analysts from JP Morgan said the proposals from China looked to have been calibrated carefully to avoid a major impact on the planemaker. Fellow Dow component 3M lost as much as 2.4 percent. And farming equipment maker Deere lost nearly $10 per share at its lowest. The company urged the two countries to work toward a resolution to "limit uncertainty for farmers and avoid meaningful disruptions to agricultural trade." The speed with which the trade spat between Washington and Beijing is ratcheting up — the Chinese government took less than 11 hours to respond with its own measures — led to a sharp selloff in global stock markets and commodities. China was hitting back against U.S. President Donald Trump's plans to impose tariffs on $50 billion in Chinese goods with similar tariffs on U.S. goods even as Trump said the country is "not in a trade war with China." "Everybody knew they were going to retaliate. The question was how strong of a retaliation. Today's move clearly shows that they mean business," said Adam Sarhan, chief executive of 50 Park Investments in New York. China levied 25 percent additional tariffs on U.S. goods, but unlike Washington's list that covers many obscure industrial items, Beijing's covers 106 key U.S. imports including soybeans, planes, cars, whiskey and chemicals. Trump denied that the tit-for-tat moves amounted to a trade war between the world's two economic superpowers.
Junkyard Gem: 2006 Chrysler PT Cruiser Route 66 Edition
Sat, Dec 15 2018The world has fallen out of love with the Chrysler PT Cruiser, the small truck (legally speaking, it was a truck by American government definition) that started with off-the-shelf Neon chassis components and added a retro-looking roomy body. In its heyday, though, the PT Cruiser looked cool and different, and sold very well for the better part of its 2000-2010 production run. Chrysler sold some special-edition PT Cruisers, most of which seem to have disappeared without a trace, but I managed to catch this discarded '06 Route 66 Edition in a self-service wrecking yard in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Route 66 Edition came in either black or yellow paint, with yellow brake calipers and these Route 66 badges. PT Cruisers with manual transmission are surprisingly easy to find in junkyards (the manual was significantly cheaper than the automatic), but this is a luxurious two-pedal version. This one had already been hit hard by parts shoppers, who took most of the front body components and a big chunk of the interior. Note the kicky yellow dash trim. The PT Cruiser, being classified as a truck, didn't have to pass the stricter emission-control and crash standards the US federal government applies to cars. That made it a good bargain when it came to capacity-per-dollar for buyers. Eventually, though, the American public tired of the onslaught of faux-retro-styled PT Cruisers (and Chevy HHRs and Volkswagen New Beetles), and now the resulting low resale value of used PT Cruisers sends them to the wrecking yards in record numbers. FCA shifts Ram Heavy Duty trucks from Mexico to U.S., creating 2,500 jobs
Fri, Jan 12 2018DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said on Thursday it will shift production of Ram Heavy Duty pickup trucks from Mexico to Michigan in 2020, a move that lowers the risk to the automaker's profit should President Donald Trump pull the United States out of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Fiat Chrysler said it would create 2,500 jobs at a factory in Warren, Michigan, near Detroit, where the Ram 1500 is currently built, and FCA will invest $1 billion in the facility. The Mexican plant will be "repurposed to produce future commercial vehicles" for sale global markets. Mexico has free trade agreements with numerous countries. Fiat Chrysler Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne a year ago raised the possibility that the automaker would move production of its heavy-duty pickups to the United States, saying U.S. tax and trade policy would influence the decision. If the United States exits NAFTA, it could mean that automakers would pay a 25 percent duty on pickup trucks assembled in Mexico and shipped to the United States. About 90 percent of the Ram pickups made at Fiat Chrysler's Saltillo plant in Mexico are sold in the United States or Canada, company officials said. Negotiators for the United States, Mexico and Canada are scheduled to meet later this month for another round of talks on revising NAFTA. Canadian government officials earlier this week said they are convinced that Trump intends to announce his intention to quit the agreement. Trump has threatened to force the rollback of NAFTA, which enables the free flow of goods made in the United States, Canada and Mexico across the borders of those countries. He also has criticized automakers for moving jobs and investment in new manufacturing facilities to Mexico and prodded them to add more auto production in the United States. View 31 Photos On Wednesday, Toyota and Mazda announced they would build a new $1.6 billion auto assembly plant in Alabama, drawing praise from Trump. Vice President Mike Pence praised Fiat Chrysler's announcement. "Manufacturing is back. Great announcement. Proof that this admin's AMERICA FIRST policies are WORKING!" Pence said in a Twitter posting. Chrysler raised its output in Mexico by 39 percent in 2017 to 639,000 vehicles, according to Mexican government data. That made Fiat Chrysler the third-largest producer of vehicles in Mexico in 2017, after Nissan and General Motors.
