I received a question about the Temp Tag, here's my answer.

"Here in Florida I was allowed to transfer my plate to a newly purchased vehicle thereby saving almost $300 in registration fees. So the plate from my Crossfire went to my Liberty."

Offered today is my one-owner, well maintained  and dealer serviced Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6.

It was bought new in August of 2007 and it's been my daily driver ever since, until January of this year. As of today this car has 86,755 miles.

All original, no mods, never raced and has ice cold A/C.

Also, this car has never been smoked in as long as I've owned it. No evidence of smoking during the first 19 miles either.

Replaced the following:

  • Headliner - about 2 or 3 years ago (still looks new)
  • Supercharger I/C Pump - about 2 years ago
  • Serpentine Belt Idler Pulley w/ belt - a few months ago
  • Fuel Pump (leaking) - about a year ago

Has new tires as well: TOYO PROXES T1 Sport

  • Front: 225/40ZR18
  • Rear: 275/35ZR19

The car looks and runs excellent, no issues except some minor curb rash on the wheels, a bit of peeling clearcoat on the front bumper and left windshield trim/molding, some peeling roof trim paint (left side only) and one very slight (difficult to find) body ding.

About the SRT-6

The Crossfire is a rear-wheel drive sports car that was sold by Daimler Chrysler's Chrysler marque. The car was built for DaimlerChrysler by Karmann in Germany and shared 39% of its components, with other Mercedes models. 80% of the car's part content is from Germany.  The chassis is a combination of a modified C-class engine compartment, Pre 2003 CLK floor pan, S-Class rear linkages and new stampings for the side rails and rear. Interior is basically a first gen SLK class Mercedes.  It was available as a coup'e and as a roadster.

The car first arrived in the public spotlight as a concept car and was put into production in 2003. Its designer was Eric Stoddard.  Flagging sales due to non-existent marketing hindered the car throughout its production run, and the Crossfire was discontinued for 2007.

The SRT-6 was a one year only model produced in 2005 (add a handful of cars for 2006) with a total of 3,149 coupes/roadsters produced. The SRT-6 has a supercharged V-6 putting out  330 hp and 330 ft·lb of torque. It is the same Mercedes Benz AMG Handbuilt engine from the  SLK32 AMG and C32 AMG.  Upgrades from the standard Crossfire found in the SRT-6 include suspension, brakes, wheels, and cosmetics. The spring rates have been stiffened almost 50 percent in the front and 42 percent in the rear, and jounce and rebound rates in the shocks have been firmed up to match. The front brake rotors grow 1.2 inches to 13.0, and the rear discs go vented and get another 0.9 inch of diameter.  Special SRT wheels which are 18 inches in front, 19 in the rear. The SRT-6 only comes with the Autostick transmission. The SRT has a fixed spoiler compared to the automatic retractable wing on the other models. The SRT also has a modified front end which includes a front spoiler. Interior includes a 200-mph speedo and Alcantara pseudo-suede trim on the buckets that is embroidered with an SRT-6 logo.

0 to 60 mph times are in the high 4 second range to the low 5 second range depending on what Auto Magazine you read.

The SRT-6  has the following amenities:
- cupholder
- homelink
- "crossfire" nameplated stainless steel door sill plates
- storage net between both front seats
- storage nets behind both front seats mounted on the bulkhead at the bottom
- silver cigarette lighter
- tire pressure monitor
- aluminum rubber studded pedals
- power seats
- different seats altogether with adjustable headrests
- leather seats
- heated seats
- 6 speaker 240 watt infinity modulus radio
- fog lights
- silver trimmed speaker grilles
- satin silver finish exterior windshield frame, side fender vents and door handles
- chrome finish on exhaust pipe tips
- automatic transmission
- gas strut on glovebox door
- heated exterior mirrors
- cabin air filtration system
- floormats
- painted engine cover

Payment:
Deposit of US $500.00 within 48 hours of auction close. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close.
Shipping: Buyer responsible for vehicle pick-up or shipping.

Update:  Remember, this is a SRT6, which is a different animal when compared to other Crossfires (100 more HP for starters).

I have to say that, of the many cars I've owned throughout the years this one, by far, is the most fun.

FCA spends $1.5 billion to retool plant for Ram production

Tue, Jul 26 2016

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) is planning to invest $1.48 billion to retool its Sterling Heights Assembly plant in metro Detroit to build the next generation of the Ram 1500. The investment will allow the assembly plant to go from unibody to body-on-frame construction. FCA also confirmed that production of the Chrysler 200 will end in December in order for the plant to be altered. As previously reported, FCA is looking to move production of the 1500 from its current assembly plant in Warren to the Sterling Heights Assembly plant (both are in Michigan). While FCA has not released any official plans for the Warren Truck Assembly Plant, Automotive News reports that the plant will be retooled to manufacture the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. Earlier this month, FCA announced plans to invest $1.05 billion to retool the Jeep Wrangler factory. FCA's current investment plans are part of the automaker's push to put competitive products on the road. Fiat Chrysler dumped 40,000 unordered vehicles on dealers

Thu, Nov 14 2019

In a move that echoes recent history, Fiat Chrysler has been making more cars and trucks than dealers in the U.S. are willing to accept, with Bloomberg reporting that at one point the automaker had built up a glut of around 40,000 unordered vehicles. That’s led some dealers to accuse FCA of reviving the dreaded “sales bank” accounting practice of obscuring inventory to improve the balance sheet. The company reportedly began building up its inventory of unordered cars this summer despite an industrywide slowdown in sales and an eagerness by some dealers to thin their inventories because rising interest rates are making it more expensive to hold unsold cars. The inventory build-up also coincided with Fiat ChryslerÂ’s efforts to find a merger partner, first with Renault, which fell through, then last monthÂ’s announcement that it will merge with FranceÂ’s PSA Group. FCA denies any such scheme and tells Bloomberg the rising inventory is down to a new predictive analytics system designed to better square supply with demand from dealers that is helping the company save money and narrow the numbers of unsold vehicles. The company recently agreed to pay a $40 million civil penalty to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to settle a complaint that it paid dealers to report fake sales figures over a span of five years. While no one is suggesting that FCA is in dire financial straits — the company saw higher than expected earnings in the third quarter and record profits in North America — the practice has strong historical precedent by Chrysler, which built up bloated inventories in the run-up to its two federal bailouts, in 1980 and 2009. It was also common at GM and Ford during the 2000s, when all three Detroit automakers struggled with excess manufacturing capacity and plummeting sales in the lead-up to the Great Recession. Back in 2012, CFO Magazine wrote about a report that explained automakersÂ’ rationale for the practice and how it works: Say fixed costs for a given factory are $100, and that the factory can make 50 cars. Consumers, however, demand only 10. Under absorption costing, if the company makes all 50 cars, its cost-per-car is $2. If it makes only up to demand, or 10 cars, the cost-per-car is $10. Although each car adds variable costs for steel and other parts, if those costs are low, the company still has an incentive to make more cars to keep the cost-per-car down.

Dodge Viper saved from crusher by students, but will it last?

Tue, 16 Sep 2014

The saga of the Washington state community college hoping to keep its allegedly pre-production Dodge Viper out of the maw of the crusher is going strong. Not only does the school still have the car, but there's a chance that the college might even get to keep it.
The whole situation flared up in March when the South Puget Sound Community College in Olympia, WA, received a notice from Chrysler Group that requested that the school's Viper be destroyed. The automaker had loaned the muscle car to it about a decade ago to use for educational purposes in its auto tech classes. With the Dodge growing long in the tooth, "it is unlikely that these vehicles offer any educational value to students," the company said in its press release on the matter.
However, the college balked at destroying its Viper, despite the fact it had signed a contract with Chrysler Group to do so. The school further claimed that its car was incredibly special because it was a pre-production example and just the fourth one made back in 1992. Although, as we pointed out at the time, the photos of the school's vehicle showed a coupe that looked like a newer Viper GTS.
