2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition: When it's coming, what it costs
Fri, Jun 5 2020Back when the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica was revealed with new styling, infotainment and all-wheel drive, the company also announced that it would have a limited run of 2020 models with four driven wheels. Those vans are now available for ordering by dealers, and they're only available in one trim, the AWD Launch Edition, priced at $41,735. This is because it's only available on the Touring L trim, which starts at $38,640. This 2020 Pacifica is a sort of blend of the 2020 and 2021 model years. On the outside, it retains the outgoing styling, augmented by the S Appearance package with black grilles, trim and 18-inch alloy wheels. Underneath, it has the 2021 all-wheel drive system, which shuffles torque to wheels with traction, and can disconnect the rear drive axles for efficiency. And it still includes the Stow 'N' Go hideaway seating with the all-wheel drive. The interior is still the same as the outgoing model, continuing to use the 8.4-inch screen with the previous-generation Uconnect 4 rather than the new Uconnect 5. This model gets black leather upholstery with grey contrast stitching. If you're interested in ordering one of these all-wheel-drive 2020 Pacificas or you're just waiting for them to reach dealer lots, they will be delivered in the third quarter of this year. If you're looking for an all-wheel-drive Pacifica with either a lower price or more features, the 2021 model year will offer the drivetrain on more trim levels. Pricing and availability for the 2021 model year has not yet been announced. Related Video:
Junkyard 1983 Dodge Rampage has Franco-American roots
Mon, Jun 20 2016Lee Iacocca and the K-Cars get most of the credit for saving Chrysler after the company's 1979 bailout by the US government, but the success of the Simca-derived Omnirizon platform was a large, if overlooked, component of Chrysler's early-1980s resurgence. The Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon were sold in the United States for the 1978 through 1990 model years, and variants included the 1983-1987 Dodge Charger and the Rampage, this well-worn example of which I spotted in a Denver self-service wrecking yard last week. The early Omnirizons came with a Volkswagen-sourced 1.7-liter engine, but all of the Rampage pickups (and their near-identical Plymouth Scamp siblings) came from the factory with a 2.2-liter K-Car engine making 96 horses. This truck has a 4-speed manual transmission, which would have made it reasonably quick by Malaise Era standards. This one had plenty of body filler and rust, even before the crash that sent it on that final tow-truck ride to this place, so it wouldn't have been worth restoring. Still, we can hope that some of its parts will live on in other L-body trucks. Bosch fined $57.8 million by DOJ for price fixing and bid rigging
Tue, Mar 31 2015The US Department of Justice has been investigating bid rigging and price fixing among automotive parts suppliers for years, and so far the agency has leveled nearly $2.5 billion in fines against 34 companies. The latest business to be caught in this ongoing crackdown is Germany's Robert Bosch GmbH (Bosch), the world's largest independent auto component maker, and it agrees to pay a $57.8 million criminal fine to the Feds. According to the DOJ, Bosch has agreed to plead guilty to pricing fixing and bid rigging for spark plugs and oxygen sensors supplied to the former DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors. The rigging is said to have occurred between January 2000 and July 2011. Bosch also allegedly played foul with starter motors sold to Volkswagen from January 2009 until at least June 2010. Bosch and other companies allegedly conspired on the pricing for bids to submit to automakers, and sold the parts at noncompetitive prices. The DOJ filed a one-count felony charge in US District Court for these actions. The company's plea is still subject to court approval, though. Bosch is only the third European company to be charged in this investigation, according to the DOJ. So far, many of the fined businesses have been from Japan, including Takata, NGK and others. Some execs have claimed price-fixing has been the standard operating procedure in the auto parts industry for a long time. Robert Bosch GmbH Agrees to Plead Guilty to Price Fixing and Bid Rigging on Automobile Parts Installed in U.S. Cars Robert Bosch GmbH, the world's largest independent parts supplier to the automotive industry, based in Gerlingen, Germany, has agreed to plead guilty and to pay a $57.8 million criminal fine for its role in a conspiracy to fix prices and rig bids for spark plugs, oxygen sensors and starter motors sold to automobile and internal combustion engine manufacturers in the United States and elsewhere, the Department of Justice announced today. According to the one-count felony charge filed today in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Michigan, Bosch conspired to allocate the supply of, rig bids for, and to fix, stabilize and maintain the prices of, spark plugs and oxygen sensors sold to automobile and internal combustion engine manufacturers such as DaimlerChrysler AG, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company and Andreas Stihl AG & Co., among others, in the United States and elsewhere.
