I am selling my ultra rare 1961 Chrysler Newport 2 door coupe. The car received a body up restoration 12 years ago and was driven only a very few miles since, then was garaged with the door down.I recently pulled it out of long storage (3 years) and now it needs to go to someone who will enjoy it and use it as she deserves.

This model is almost impossible to find anymore, and the 300 versions are going well over the 40K mark now. These are the identical same car to the 300, just with minor side trim differences and grill. The previous owner I bought it from added the highly desirable 'cross ram' induction set up (dual carbs) to the stock 361 V8. Now the bonus with this car is it now has the 300 bucket seats instead of the factory bench seat. Now I have had some folks tell me it may be the 413 motor which the 300's had, but I do not know how to confirm this?

The original carbs are long gone & have been replaced with more reliable & efficient Edelbrock 600cfm carbs. But other than that, she retains all the original parts. It has the infamous push button automatic changer on the left side of the dash mated to the indestructible 727 Torque Flight auto. It is complemented with these 17" chrome wheels with 275x55x17 rears with 235x55x17 fronts. These were factory drum brake cars as was the 300. I do not have the original wheels or caps. This is how I bought the car.

As you can see, it has a gorgeous metallic silver paint (originally red?) and laser straight all over. The bumpers still look & shine like new and are just perfect, as is ALL the glass, which this car has a LOT of! The interior was redone in a classic white tuck & roll style with new black carpeting, which looks marvelous against the outer paint & chrome wheels.

The car runs & drives just fine, but after sitting so long, I noticed recently it has developed a few minor issues which I have not got the time or energy to do. Simple things like the front/rear turn signals aren't flashing anymore, the 'Astrodome' speedometer has stopped working and it's gauges, yet the under dash gauges are working, so probably a short? So nothing major that could not be fixed in a day, as these were all working once.

Bottom line here is that you will have one of the rarest & most beautifully designed cars out there. You will NEVER see one at a show or for sale, you will have EVERYBODY ask you what is it? and ultimately, be the proud owner of the last year of Virgil M. Exner's forward look finned Mopars! (57-61)

Now remembering...there were only 1200 '300' coupes made for 1961 and 9405 of these Newport coupes. How many are left today...?

I have 125 more detailed pictures of this car here on the link below. Just click it once to open it up & view them:

God bless & happy bidding!

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 disaster endangers FCA's Magneti Marelli sale

Thu, Oct 13 2016

Samsung's financial and public relations positions are going up faster than one of the company's Galaxy Note 7 smartphones, and that's bad news for Fiat Chrysler. FCA was in talks with the South Korean tech giant to sell all or a portion of Magneti Marelli, the enormous Italian parts supplier. The deal, estimated to be in the $3 billion range, was a big part of FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne's five-year plan to slash his company's ˆ5.5 billion ($6.07 billion at today's rates) debt. But Samsung's flaming phones may have stalled the deal, Automotive News reports. Samsung was hoping to acquire all or part of Magneti to gain access to its lighting, in-car entertainment, and telematics business, all in a bid to reduce its reliance on occasionally explosive consumer electronics, AN's sources report. This week alone, Samsung permanently ended production of the Note 7 and began recalling millions of devices, sending out flame-proof return boxes so owners can ship the device back in relative safety. The disaster has already caused Samsung to slash its third-quarter operating profit by $2.3 billion, and is leading the company to divert its attention away from big, blockbuster deals, people "who asked not to be identified because the negotiations are private" told AN. According to the same sources, the two sides haven't even agreed on a valuation for Magneti Marelli. Neither company was willing to comment on the potential sale. The Walter P. Chrysler Museum is shutting down permanently this December

Thu, Nov 10 2016

It is with disappointment that we report the Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI, will be closed down permanently at the end of this year. The museum, which closed in 2012 after not being able to cover costs, was recently reopened to the public on alternating weekends starting in June, but Chrysler made the decision to shutter it altogether after its final day of operation on December 18, 2016. The reason for this is primarily because FCA needs more office space, and the company decided to convert the museum for that purpose. The the cars will be moved to storage after the closure, and they'll be shown at various events. However, they'll only be able to be seen together for two more weekends. Those weekends include those of November 19 and 20, and December 17 and 18. The museum will be open from 10 am to 4 pm on those days. If you can, we highly recommend visiting the museum. Adults get in for $10, seniors and retired FCA employees for $8, kids between 6 and 17 for $6, and kids under 5 for free. It also has some fantastic cars including concepts from the 1950s to the 2000s, oddball performance vehicles such as the Omni GLH-S, and of course plenty of fascinating history. And if it makes any difference to you, there's even a purple Plymouth Prowler you can sit in. Just make sure you don't wait too long to make up your mind about visiting. Related Video:

PSA unions vote in favor of merger with Fiat Chrysler

Tue, Nov 19 2019

PARIS — The majority of unions representing workers at Peugeot maker PSA are in favor of a planned $50 billion merger with Fiat Chrysler, PSA executives and union representatives said. However, the unions said that once the merger deal was signed, they would be seeking detailed information about the plans for the combined company. At a PSA works council meeting, all trade union representatives on the council voted to give a favorable opinion on the merger. "We will remain vigilant about the social impact and await a clearer and more detailed picture of the plan's implications for plants, volume, and how much work will be given to the foundries," said Franck Don, representative of the CFTC union. "But the project in the form it's been presented makes sense because the two groups complement each other, are in good financial health, and thanks to the new format will attain a critical size which is vital in the auto business today." The merger would help the firms pool resources to meet tough new emissions rules and investments in electric and self-driving vehicles, as well as counter a broader downturn in car markets. Securing support from Europe's powerful trade unions will be critical for the merged company, which will employ more than 400,000 staff and operate hundreds of factories worldwide. The deal has stirred concerns in Germany and Britain where plants making Opel and Vauxhall cars have seen jobs cut in recent year as part of a cost-cutting drive.
