Up for sale is a truly beautiful, rather rare, piece of "Art Deco" automotive history!  1950 Chrysler Windsor Royal Club Coupe. This original survivor is in remarkable condition having travelled only 71,300 miles in the last 64 years.  The car was driven a conservative 43,000 miles up to 1983 by the original owner.  Upon her passing it was passed to her daughter and son inlaw and was given a light face-lift consisting of some mechanical updating and a few paint touch-ups.  The car was used for more than 30 years as a Sunday drive and show car staying with the original family.  All of its life it has been garaged and pampered.  The car has been serviced regularly throughout the years with some oil changes having less than 100 miles driven.  The paint is close to 2/3 original with a few blow ins and touch-ups over the years to keep it pristine. The interior is all original with only the slightest of fading with no rips. The seats have always been covered over with plaid matching blankets front and back.  The door panels are all original also with only light wear on the drivers door.  The carpet is presentable but a recent vacuuming revealed some fraying and a few un-ravels.  ( New carpets have been ordered)  It has the original rubber floor mats with the "Royal" crown on both as with instrument cluster. The headliner, sun visors and arm-rests are original and in fabulous condition.   The rest of the interior is in super condition, also all the chrome, buttons, knobs and handles are all great. The trunk is all original from the jack and tire, right down to the original trunk mat.  The paint, as stated, is mostly original with only a few touch-ups.  There are a few knicks and light scratches that do not show in the photos, but can be seen at 6-12 inches. The undercarriage is almost factory fresh!!  The dealer-applied asphault undercoating is quite dry from so many years in Nevada and California and is easily scraped off.  Under the undercoating it is factory paint with no rust!! Truly remarkable!!  The Chrome is the real tell-tale of pride of ownership.  The chrome is nearly flawless and is super bright and shiney.  The rear bumper was rechromed 20+ years ago for the usual exhaust discoloration and oxidization.  It still looks great!  All of the factory options work!  Radio was overhauled in the 80's and all new tubes put in.  It sounds fabulous!  All gauges work perfectly and are super accurate.  The interior chrome is stunning. The 2-speed electric wipers work great and park when turned off.  The steering wheel has a dozen or so hairline cracks in the acryllic. The rad and heater core were replaced a few years ago as were belts and hoses. The 3 speed dual fans blow hard and hot when required. The brake system was overhauled 2 years ago also as was the fluid-drive transmission.  It is a true Timex. Last summer it drove over 5000 miles on a 3 week family trip at 70 mph.  This past month we drove it 2000 miles on another... 500+ miles were in torrential rains with no issues. Tires are only a few years old and in great shape. The car still has its original headlights.  If you look closely at the center of the lights you will see the focus beam center.  All other light lenses are in outstanding condition with little to no crazing. Original manuals and brochures are with the car.  All systems are in top shape.  I would not hesitate to drive coast to coast!! Registered appraisal of $29,900.00  DOT Safety inspected last week. The car gets rave reviews and thumbs up everywhere we go. While it is not a Concourse vehicle, it has many trophies and accolades. There are another 60 plus photos available for email.  Any questions feel free to call  905-717-2431 I will help with shipping arrangements. There are some spare parts that go with the car. ( Hoses, lines, exhaust, factory original spotlight, wiper blades, car cover and more) The pictures speak for themselves.

Chrysler expecting up to 200,000 9-speed transmissions for 3 models this year

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Striving for improved fuel economy, we already knew that Chrysler will begin using a nine-speed automatic transmission in some of its new products this year, but what we haven't known is that volume at which this gearbox will be used. According to Bloomberg, Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne has been quoted as saying that the automaker expects to sell close to 200,000 units equipped with this new transmission in 2013. Those gear-rich trannies will be spread out across three models, consisting of the redesigned Chrysler 200, the still-unnamed Jeep Liberty replacement and the Dodge Dart.
This transmission should play a pivotal role in making Chrysler vehicles more competitive in their respective segments. Just for comparison, one of the Dart's key competitors, the Toyota Corolla, still uses a four-speed automatic, and a previous report indicates that the next-generation 200 could get up to 38 miles per gallon on the highway, which is better than most non-hybrid midsize sedans on the market. Marchionne says that the new Jeep model is expected during the second quarter of this year, but there is no word as to when the new 200 or nine-speed Dart will debut, but clearly Dodge would like to have the transmission in its compact yesterday. As for that volume figure, it definitely doesn't seem out of reach since the Dart, Liberty and 200 combined for a total of more than 225,000 units in 2012.
How many more gears can we expect in future cars? Probably not many more, since the CEO of transmission-builder ZF, Stefan Sommer, previously stated that nine speeds was the "natural limit" for transmissions.

A Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country with 12,000 miles is up for auction

Mon, Apr 26 2021

A hundred years ago, the LeBaron name was among America's top luxury nameplates, so when we heard that auction house R.M. Sotheby's was auctioning one off, we immediately thought of one of the coachbuilt Imperial-branded classics that competed with the highest-order Gatsby-era Cadillacs and Lincolns. What we found instead, however, was arguably even better. It's a 1985 Chrysler LeBaron Town and Country convertible, the one most of us know from when "Back to the Future" was still in theaters, complete with faux wood paneling. This has strong nostalgic value, especially as one of my best grade-school friends' mom had one, and I always felt like a celebrity to get picked up from school with the top down. While the LeBaron name may have fallen from grace by then, becoming the entry-level Chrysler offering, the T&C droptop was the most glamorous of the midsize K-cars. Did the Plymouth Reliant or Dodge Aries have acres of plastic timber applique on their flanks and four words (five if you count "Le" as its own) in their model names? Hell no. It may have been powered by a 2.6-liter Mitsubishi Astron engine, but the front-driver was pure Americana. K-cars were as common in the 1980s as RAV4s are today, and the K platform was largely responsible for saving Chrysler from bankruptcy. Nothing from Ford, GM, Germany or Japan came close, then-CEO Lee Iacocca said, and, "If you can find a better car, buy it!" he would threaten. This content is hosted by a third party. Beyond that, the LeBaron was the steed that carried Neal Page and Del Griffith cross-country in time for Thanksgiving dinner in Planes, Trains and Automobiles. Esteemed LeBaron T&C owners counted Iacocca himself, Frank Sinatra (a wagon, even!), and if George Costanza is to be believed, Jon Voight. For a car that sold over 2 million examples, the "wood"-sided Town and Country convertible variant was rare. Chrysler made only 1,105 of them, and this particular example has a claimed 12,345 miles on the clock. The color is gold, Jerry, gold! And given what we known in hindsight about their build quality, you're not likely to find a better one. According to its CarFax report, the LeBaron was purchased new in Vermont, where it resided until 2004 when it was sold to a new owner in West Virginia. Five years later, it made its way to a dealer in Utah.

Fiat Chrysler picks Google, Samsung for global connected car system

Tue, Apr 30 2019

DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler said on Tuesday it will use technology from Alphabet Inc's Google and Samsung to connect all its vehicles by 2022, providing music and video and facilitating future car-sharing and self-driving capabilities. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV (FCA) will use Google's Android operating system globally instead of a mixture of software that varies by region, a spokesman said. The automaker will also use a cloud-based digital platform from Samsung Electronics Co Ltd's Harman unit. Unlike its rivals General Motors and Ford, FCA has spent virtually nothing on developing self-driving vehicle technology. This saves the company large amounts of money, but makes it reliant on outside parties to provide technology and systems. FCA said it will launch the new capabilities in the second half of 2019. The company said the system will aid owners "by predicting maintenance needs, locating fuel and charging stations, receiving traffic prompts and restaurant offers and providing live customer-care assistance at the push of the button."
