This preserved survivor 1987 Chrysler LeBaron Town&Country station wagon is the ultimate 1980s retro-mobile!  Super luxurious and comfortable with its Mark Cross leather seats, deep carpeting, power driver seat, AM/FM/Cassette, super 1980s status with its wood trim in excellent condition, white walls and wire wheel covers, and hood ornament, fun and fast to drive with its turbo engine and front wheel drive, and yet practical with room in the wagon to bring the picnic to the next car show!

The LeBaron looks, runs, and drives great.  The over the top Mark Cross leather interior is in amazing condition.  The seats and door panels show very little wear; the headliner is just a few years old (no sagging headliner here!), there are no cracks or fading in the dash.  The power drivers seat is very comfortable and works great; all power windows work, power locks work, and the AMFM radio works (I have never used the cassette player).  With the tilt wheel and the power seat, it is a smooth and comfortable ride!  And for the ultimate in 1980s retro mobile show, the period cell phone (remember they were called 'car phones') is on a stand facing the rear seat passenger!  The phone appears to have been installed when the car was purchased new, and the original cell phone owners manual is included.  The only notable cosmetic item is a broken plastic trim piece at the drivers seat lower side by the seat controls; it is barely noticeable even when pointed out, and in now way affects the seat or seat mechanism.  The power rear view mirrors do not work.  The really cool period digital dash display works great and includes full instrumentation, which shows that this LeBaron is in great running condition, as gages work showing the oil pressure, temperature, and alternator are all performing in good operating ranges.

Mechanically, the LeBaron starts right up, sounds great, and is very quick.  Brakes work fine, the transmission shifts smoothly into and through gears, steering feels fine and it makes no unusual noises.  Even the cruise control works!  The air conditioning comes on, but blows only moderately cool.  The LeBaron has largely been stored for the last few years, always indoors, and started periodically.  I have taken it on short drives over the last several weeks, and it has started, run, driven, and braked great, but I would recommend changing fluids and inspecting the car before taking it on a longer trip.

The body on this LeBaron is in excellent condition, I can see absolutely no rust anywhere.  The wood is overall in excellent condition, probably better than any other period LeBaron woody that I have seen.  The LeBaron has had some minor body work to the front bumper and hood at some point in the past, and the paint on the hood has some minor and hard to see checking.  The wood trim panels on the left front fender and left front door have some minor damage (see photos) but the rest of the wood is really in amazing condition, without the fading and yellowing that is on almost all of these woody wagons, and with only very minor wear or chips.  The shiny aluminum trim around the windows is in excellent, shiny condition, again this is almost always somewhat faded but on this car it looks great.  The roof rack is also in great condition, and has its tie down attachments.  Finally, the LeBaron has a set of new old stock wire wheel covers, all in excellent condition, without curb rash or deterioration.  I only put the new wheel covers on for the photos, and have stored them in the car so that they are not damaged.

The luggage compartment is clean and is not faded, but the hatch struts need to be replaced.  The spare tire appears to be the unused original!

This is a very obviously well cared for, garaged, original survivor LeBaron Town & Country turbo wagon.  You can't get more 1980s than this... and you can cruise to local car shows with your gear in the time capsule wagon.  It is fun to drive and shows well.

I have described this LeBaron to the best of my knowledge; it is a 27 year old car and is sold as is, where is.  If you have any questions, please ask before you bid!  A bid is a contract to purchase the car if you are the high bidder!  Bidders with zero or negative feedback please contact me before bidding or I reserve the right to cancel your bid.  The buyer is responsible for picking up the car or for transport, though I can assist to meet a transport provider.  I can store the car indoors for a short time while pick up arrangements are being made.  A non refundable $500 deposit is due within 24 hours of auction end; the balance in cash or USPS money order are due within seven days of auction end.  I have clear title in my name and it will be provided and the car released when payment in full has been made and funds are cleared.

I hope that you will enjoy this time capsule LeBaron turbo wagon!

Chrysler museum to open one last time on June 8

Thu, 18 Apr 2013

Due to a lack of funding, Chrysler closed the doors to its Walter P. Chrysler Museum in Auburn Hills, MI back in December, but it sounds like the facility will be open next month for one last hurrah. According to a report in the Detroit Free Press, the Chrysler Museum will be open to the public one last time on June 8 for the annual Chrysler Employee Motorsport Association car show.
While the car show will take place in the museum's parking lot from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM on June 8 with a theme dedicated to muscle cars past and present, all attendees will be able to be among the last people to tour the museum - with free admission. The museum is known for housing some of the more important production and concept cars from Chrysler's history. Check out the car show's flyer for more information.

2015 Chrysler 200 snags EPA ratings of 18 mpg city and 29 highway

Tue, 25 Mar 2014

While Chrysler hasn't officially announced fuel economy figures for its new 200 sedan, the information for one model has just leaked out thanks to the US Department of Energy's FuelEconomy.gov website. It certified the 200 with the 295-horsepower and 262-pound-feet 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as getting 18-miles-per-gallon city, 29-mpg highway and 22-mpg combined.
Last year's front-wheel drive 200 with a less-powerful version of the Pentastar was rated at 19-mpg city, 29-mpg highway and 22-mpg combined. That means that buyers are getting more power and all-wheel drive traction at almost no loss in economy. However, compared to current, all-wheel drive sedan competitors, the Chrysler comes in the middle. The Ford Fusion with all-wheel drive with the 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder has 240 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque is somewhat down on power but bests it in economy at 22-mpg city, 31-mpg highway and 25-mpg combined. The current Subaru Legacy 3.6R loses in both metrics with 256 hp and 247 lb-ft and a rating of 18-mpg city, 25-mpg highway and 20-mpg combined. However, Subaru claims the next generation with the same engine will boast 20-mpg city, 28-mpg highway and 23-mpg combined. But these numbers are just estimates from the automaker at the moment, and they haven't yet been certified by the EPA yet.
The numbers for the four-cylinder and front-wheel drive 200 drivetrains are not yet available, but Chrysler has been promising the sedan gets an estimated 35-mpg highway with the 184-hp and 173-lb-ft Tigershark 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine. We won't know for sure until it's certified, but we'll keep you posted.

Chrysler reports $464M net income for Q3

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

Chrysler has just announced earnings of $464 million in net income for this third quarter, a 22-percent year-over-year increase. Net income for the first three quarters of 2013 is at $1.1 billion. Net revenue climbed significantly as well, to $17.6 billion, a 13.5-percent increase on Q3 of 2012.
Those increases were thanks in no small part to an eight-percent rise in sales from the same period last year, with 603,000 vehicles sold worldwide. "Chrysler Group's ninth consecutive quarter of positive net income highlights our commitment to producing award-winning vehicles for consumers, such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and the Ram 1500," said Sergio Marchionne, Chairman and CEO of Chrysler Group.
Despite the increased sales, Chrysler's US market share dropped slightly, from 11.3 percent in Q3 2012 to 11.2. Canadian market share remained level at 14.3 percent. Have a look below for the entire press release from Chrysler.
