1983 Chrysler Imperial Base Hardtop 2-door 5.2l on 2040-cars

Year:1983 Mileage:58901

Here is a well kept example of an early 80's era Imperial.  It is in very good condition inside and out.  Interior still smells like a new car.  Here's the good and the not so good.

Interior -

When i sat in this car i was sold. The seats are extremely comfortable and the shag carpet makes you want to drive barefoot. The 'Mark Cross" edition leather is very pliable with minimal wear/marks. All seat functions are in working order. The power windows roll up and down with ease. All interior lighting/lenses work and are in good shape. The radio works, and has a "rear boost" feature that amplifies the rear speakers. Power antenna works fine.  The cassette player does not work. The car came with a chrysler cassette tape which i have yet to hear. haha. Power locks work.  Power side mirrors motors work, but there are a few positions that need a little push with the finger to get moving again. The instrument panel reads ok, but there are some digits that could be more clear.  More noticable in the mileage and gas than the speedo. It comes with a Spare instrument panel.

Exterior-

Very straight with minimal rust. a few dings that are hard to see unless you catch it in the right light. All lenses are good; retractable headlight mechanisms work. Bumpers are straight and have nice chrome.  The car has a "Zeibart" undercoating package. Frame and floorboards are solid. Has new rear metal brake lines and new front and rear rubber flex lines.  New muffler and tailpipe.  All original drivetrain never modified otherwise. The car came with front and rear anti-sway bars. The hubcaps are in very good shape.
The 318 was changed over from the EFI to a 4bbl carb setup. A thermoquad sits on top.  Otherwise there are only minimal changes from original.  The A/C needs to be recharged. The car has the components for the cruise control but they are not installed.  Included with the car are a new gas tank, sending unit, lines and straps for anyone wanting to do a complete changeover like they would have done at the dealer.  Not necessary for regular driving, just what came with the car when i bought it.
The carb needs to be tuned better. It has a hesitation during first during acceleration, and sometimes will stall, but not often.  Id opt for an Edlebrock carb in place of the thermoquad. I think this would also solve this problem.   The tires are old and  have good tread,  but the car really ought to have some new ones.

Marchionne says Fiat Chrysler can make 6 million cars per year

Tue, 01 Apr 2014

The combined Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will see its production capacity increase from a projected 4.6 million in 2014 to 6 million units once it completes its integration, according to statements made by FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne.
"With the initiatives we will announce in May, six million is accessible," Marchionne said during a Fiat shareholders' meeting in Turin, according to The Detroit News. Marchionne is aiming to complete the merger between the Turin, Italy-based Fiat and the Auburn Hills, MI-based Chrysler by the end of this year.
Increasing production by 1.4 million units is no small order, particularly when combined Fiat and Chrysler sales have increased only modestly in the past few years - only 4.4 million units were sold in 2013, and while 4.6 million is projected for 2014, 4.5 million is also a distinct possibility. Six million units per year has been Marchionne's self-imposed goal for the combined automaker, according to The News, claiming that FCA would need to crest that point to achieve profitability.

How fracking is causing Chrysler minivans to sit on Detroit's riverfront

Fri, 25 Apr 2014

It's fascinating the way that one change to a complex system can have all sorts of unintended consequences. For instance, there are hundreds of new Chrysler Town and County and Dodge Grand Caravan minivans built in Windsor, Ontario, sitting in lots on the Detroit waterfront because of the energy boom in the Bakken oil field in the northern US and parts of Canada.
The huge amount of crude oil coming from these sites mostly use freight trains for transport, and that supply boom has resulted in a shortage of railcars to carry other goods. According to The Windsor Star, North American crude oil transport by train has gone from 9,500 carloads in 2008 to 434,032 carloads in 2013. Making matters worse, some North American rail infrastructure is still damaged because of this year's harsh winter, and that's slowing things down even further.
Chrysler admits to The Star that it has had some delivery delays due to the freight train shortage. In the meantime, it's using more trucks to deliver its vehicles. Trucking is a far less economical solution, partially because a train can carry so many more units at one time, but alternatives are slim. The Windsor plant alone has a deal for 33 trucks to distribute the minivans around Canada and the Midwestern US.

Chrysler 300 Glacier edition ready to chill with AWD

Sat, 19 Jan 2013

It seems that word is finally out on the redone Chrysler 300, as evidenced by the fact that the model's sales almost doubled last year compared to 2011 (when the distinctive sedan was a little slow out of the gates). One thing that's likely helping the car is a growing number of unique models like the 300S, 300 SRT8 and the new 300C John Varvatos Luxury Edition, and now one more trim has joined the lineup. Initially announced back in September, the 300 Glacier is on sale now with a starting price of $36,845 (*not including a $995 destination charge).
Designed with cold-weather climates in mind, the 300 Glacier is only available with all-wheel drive. Chrysler says the Glacier will run an additional $1,500 over the 300S AWD off which this car is based, but that extra money gets unique 19-inch aluminum wheels, an exclusive Glacier Blue Pearl Coat paint job and special interior treatments including piano black accents and fancier leather seats and stitching. Like the 300S, power from the Pentastar V6 has been bumped up to an even 300 horsepower (up from 292 hp) with the aid of a cold-air induction and freer-breathing exhaust. Naturally, the 363-hp Hemi V8 is still available, too.
