1951 Chrysler Imperial Sedan 331 Hemi Complete Barn Find Solid Needs Love on 2040-cars
McPherson, Kansas, United States
|
Offered for your consideration is a 1951 Chrysler Imperial Sedan. This car was recently rescued from a Kansas farm and would definitely be worth the effort to restore. For one thing it is a first year HEMI car and the original 331cid engine still turns over by hand with compression. Secondly, this car is very complete and is only missing small odds and ends. Finally it is very solid and the rust is minimal.
This car is missing the crown on the trunk, the small crown trim pieces that go inside on the front doors, and the clock (all of which were robbed while it was in its resting place. Otherwise this car is extremely complete and still sporting its original hub caps and fender skirts (one of the fender skirts has a broken chrome spear trim pice but the the two pieces are there). The engine turns over nicely by hand with compression and there is nothing missing from the engine bay that I can see. The carburetor is a two barrel. The clutch operates and the car rolls and steers. The wiring harness has been chewed on by rats and will need to be repaired or replaced and the interior needs to be completely redone. I do not have any keys for the car. This car has power windows and the interior is complete minus the clock on the dash and the two small inside door trim pieces I mentioned earlier. The steering wheel plastic is mostly missing because of all of the sun exposure it has had. None of the glass is broken but some of the flat glass is starting to yellow. The three pice rear window pieces are in fantastic condition and that is important because they are the only pieces of glass that are rounded and expensive to replace. The stainless trim on this car is in great shape the chrome is overall very good except for the bumpers which have some rust but the pot metal chrome pieces are surprisingly nice. As far as body rust goes all that i can see is a small hole in the front floor and the very bottom of the trunk lid is a bit rusty the trunk floor looks OK. The car has some dents on it; one on the front drivers side corner of the roof, the two front fenders, and some spots that have body filler on the car (dents are filled in, not rust). The frame looks great and only has surface rust. The car has no title but I will fill out an official bill of sale and getting a title should not be hard considering this is an antique and has been off the road since 1983. It has the fluid drive semi-automatic transmission which is a marvelously strange design. This car absolutely deserves a second chance, but I know how the story usually goes for these old neglected HEMI cars. The engine is pulled to be put in a hot rod or something and the rest of the car is crushed. I find that disgusting, but if that is what the new owner plans to do, so be it, just please don't tell me about it. A NON-REFUNDABLE $200 dollar PayPal deposit is due ant the end of the auction from the winning bidder within 48 hours. Please don't your time or mine by bidding on something you can't afford or don't intend on picking up. PICKUP ARRANGEMENTS FOR THIS CAR MUST BE MADE WITHIN 5 DAYS OF THE END OF THE AUCTION and I would like this car to be picked up within two weeks of the end of the auction. Don't let this old HEMI cruiser slip away . Good luck and Happy Bidding! |

2015 will be the biggest year ever for cars at CES
Fri, Jan 2 2015Like the SEMA Show, major automakers are paying increasing attention to the CES, with 2015 expected to be one of the most auto focused yet. Ford, Volkswagen, Toyota, General Motors, Hyundai, Mazda, Audi, BMW and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will all be in attendance when CES 2015 kicks off next week, taking up a record-breaking 165,000 square feet of space at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "We've come a long way from a single car on a carpet," Ford's Alan Hall told Bloomberg. Unlike SEMA, or a more traditional auto show, like the upcoming festivities in Detroit, CES doesn't necessarily focus on entire cars or the way they perform, but on the way our technology will interact with vehicles, and in how those vehicles will deliver information to drivers. "CES has become a major launch point for a lot of the big automakers," IHS tech analyst Mark Boyadjis told Bloomberg. "CES is a way for them to get on a global stage for technology." As for what kind of wares automakers will trot out in Las Vegas, we already know that BMW will show off an autonomous i3 electric car that can navigate its way through a multistory car park and can be hailed via a smartwatch app. According to Bloomberg, Hyundai will show off its own smartwatch app for the Genesis sedan, while Audi and Mercedes-Benz will show off autonomous vehicles next week. Automakers won't be the only companies looking to capitalize on CES. Tech firms, like chipmaker Nvidia, are becoming increasingly involved in the automotive game and will be in town showing their wares off to OEMs. "Two years ago, our booth would have been filled with PCs and people playing video games," Danny Shapiro, Nvidia's senior director for automotive business, told Bloomberg. "This year we made a strategic decision to shift the focus of the booth on automotive and de-prioritize some of the other things." Needless to say, you can expect to see a lot of news out of Las Vegas come next week. Stay tuned. Sergio Marchionne, the man who saved Fiat and Chrysler, dies at 66
Wed, Jul 25 2018MILAN — Sergio Marchionne, one of the auto industry's most demanding and tenacious chief executives, who rescued Fiat and Chrysler, two of its most storied brand, has died after complications from recent surgery. He was 66. The gruff chief executive spent 14 years at the wheel of Fiat Chrysler, the group he built. He was replaced as boss last weekend after his condition worsened. In Italy, where his turnaround of Fiat earned him legendary status, he was treated like a rock star. The former philosophy student and accountant almost never wore a tie and preferred casual sweaters, half-joking that it saved him time on dressing. A heavy smoker until giving up the habit a year ago, he was known for working extraordinarily long hours before falling ill. He demanded others keep a similarly grueling schedule, earning him a reputation from friends and foes alike for being stubborn and arrogant. "I feel like I live in a tunnel. He is not just demanding; he wants all your life devoted to him," said one banker who worked with Marchionne on various deals in recent years. Some could not keep up with his round-the-clock approach. Another banker who worked with Marchionne said he would receive emails from him at all hours, even in the middle of the night. In his last public appearance on June 26, wearing his signature sweater, Marchionne appeared fatigued and out of breath as he presented a Jeep Wrangler to Italy's paramilitary police, the Carabinieri, at a ceremony in Rome. Days later, he went to Switzerland to undergo what Fiat Chrysler (FCA) described as a shoulder operation. FCA has not said what happened after he left the operating theater, but according to media reports in Italy, the surgery was for an invasive sarcoma he had known about for some time but had not revealed to his boss, FCA Chairman John Elkann. The reports say he underwent a risky surgery in Switzerland but developed a cerebral embolism on the operating table that left him in a coma. In an emergency board meeting at the weekend, FCA chose the head of its Jeep division, Mike Manley, as his successor. On Wednesday, Elkann announced that the longtime CEO had passed away, saying: "Sergio Marchionne, man and friend, is gone." Marchionne has done what many thought impossible, most notably his huge gamble just over a decade ago when he set in motion the marriage between the then-ailing Fiat with bankrupt U.S. rival Chrysler. It is now the world's seventh-largest carmaker and is debt-free.
Stellantis won't race to split electric vehicles from fossil fuel cars
Fri, May 6 2022MILAN - Stellantis is not considering splitting its electric vehicle (EV) business from its legacy combustion engine operation, its finance chief said on Thursday, as the carmaker presented above-expectation revenue data for the first quarter. Chief Financial Officer Richard Palmer told analysts he did not see huge benefits in the kind of separations pursued by rivals such as France's Renault and U.S. Ford. "We need to manage the company and the assets we have through this transition," he said. "There are benefits to having the cash flow being generated by the internal combustion business for the investments we need to make." Palmer said the group, formed by a merger last year of Fiat Chrysler and Peugeot maker PSA, was not averse to considering adjusting its structure "but we aren't anticipating any big changes." Palmer's comments came after the world's fourth largest carmaker said its net revenue rose 12% to 41.5 billion euros ($44.1 billion) in the January-March period, as strong pricing and the type of vehicles sold helped offset the impact of the semiconductor shortage on volumes. That topped analyst expectations of 36.9 billion euros, according to a Reuters poll. Milan-listed shares were up 0.5% by 1415 GMT, in line with Italy's blue-chip index. The impact of the chip crunch was evident in the decline in shipment figures which fell 12% in the quarter to 1.374 million vehicles. It was a similar story for Germany's BMW which posted higher revenues on Thursday and a decline in car sales. Riding the Recovery Stellantis, whose brands also include Citroen, Jeep and Maserati, confirmed its 2022 forecasts for a double-digit adjusted operating income margin, after 11.8% last year, and a positive cash-flow despite supply and inflationary headwinds. Morgan Stanley analysts said after the results that Stellantis had better management than many peers and benefited from its significant exposure to a stronger U.S. economy and a European recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. They also said it was less affected by a slowing Chinese economy. Palmer said it was important for the group to maintain double-digit margins and keep delivering positive cash flows. "A 12% increase in revenue with a 12% decrease in volumes indicates a very strong performance on price and mix, which augurs well for our margin performance," he said. He said semiconductor supply problems were expected to ease this year with continued improvements in 2023.
