2020 Chrysler Pacifica AWD Launch Edition: When it's coming, what it costs

Back when the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica was revealed with new styling, infotainment and all-wheel drive, the company also announced that it would have a limited run of 2020 models with four driven wheels. Those vans are now available for ordering by dealers, and they're only available in one trim, the AWD Launch Edition, priced at $41,735. This is because it's only available on the Touring L trim, which starts at $38,640. This 2020 Pacifica is a sort of blend of the 2020 and 2021 model years. On the outside, it retains the outgoing styling, augmented by the S Appearance package with black grilles, trim and 18-inch alloy wheels. Underneath, it has the 2021 all-wheel drive system, which shuffles torque to wheels with traction, and can disconnect the rear drive axles for efficiency. And it still includes the Stow 'N' Go hideaway seating with the all-wheel drive. The interior is still the same as the outgoing model, continuing to use the 8.4-inch screen with the previous-generation Uconnect 4 rather than the new Uconnect 5. This model gets black leather upholstery with grey contrast stitching. If you're interested in ordering one of these all-wheel-drive 2020 Pacificas or you're just waiting for them to reach dealer lots, they will be delivered in the third quarter of this year. If you're looking for an all-wheel-drive Pacifica with either a lower price or more features, the 2021 model year will offer the drivetrain on more trim levels. Chrysler and Fiat are not going away, though the strategy is shifting

BALOCCO, Italy — At FCA's five-year plan extravaganza last week, most of the news was focused on just four brands — Jeep, Ram, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. In fact, Chrysler, Fiat and Dodge weren't even on the day's agenda. That led to some speculation that Chrysler might finally get the axe. Well, rumors of the brand's demise have been greatly exaggerated. In addition to an updated deal with Waymo, FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne expanded on future plans for Chrysler and Fiat during a Q&A session with investors and journalists. Marchionne said that Chrysler, Dodge and Fiat make up only 20 percent of global sales. While that means Jeep, Ram, Maserati and Alfa Romeo make up the bulk of FCA's profits (and most of that comes from Jeep and Ram). Currently, the Chrysler and Fiat brands just aren't important or valuable enough to warrant their own press conferences, but that doesn't mean things are doom and gloom. Marchionne said that both brands still have a future in FCA's portfolio. For Chrysler, that means more vans and possibly crossovers, and only in the North American market. The Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid are doing well enough, so those will continue. Look for a crossover or two to come sometime down the line. Every Chrysler going forward will focus on utility and that's bad news for 300 enthusiasts: Marchionne said flat out that the Chrysler lineup won't contain any cars. Expect hybrid, plug-in hybrid and battery-electric versions of each new model. FCA plans to have an electrified version of every global model by 2022. Details were less clear for Fiat's future, though it won't be going away. The only new model that was announced was a new version of the all-electric Fiat 500e, a car Marchionne famously encouraged customers not to buy as the company lost $14,000 on each one sold. For North America, Fiat will focus on "green cars," though what exactly that means is unclear. Expect a refreshed version of the 500X in the next couple of years. Lee Iacocca's very first Dodge Viper RT/10 nets $285,500 at auction

The first 1992 Dodge Viper RT/10 to roll down the assembly line, which was snapped up by Chrysler chief Lee Iacocca, yesterday hammered at the Bonhams auction in Arizona for $285,500, more than double the pre-sale estimate. According to a history of the car published by the auction house, Iacocca, in his introduction of the Viper to the press, pointed to the car on stage and said, "This one right here is mine." That historic Viper, with serial number 001, has never been available on the open market, as Iacocca kept the car from new until he passed away last year. The car has been driven just 6,200 miles and was being sold by his estate. Other Lee Iacocca cars offered at the same sale fared less well. A 1986 Chrysler LeBaron Town & Country convertible — the ultimate expression of Iacocca's company-saving K-cars — with 20,500 miles on it sold for $19,040. That's less than the $20,000 to $25,000 the auction house had estimated the car would bring. A third car from the former auto executive's estate was a customized 2009 Ford Mustang. The pony car was one of a limited run of 45 Iacocca-branded custom Mustangs, which were reworked by Metalcrafters and sold by Galpin Ford in Los Angeles. The Iacocca Mustang, never titled and with 220 miles on it, hammered for $49,280.
