Dodge not being dropped by Chrysler, CEO reaffirms
Mon, 16 Sep 2013Dodge isn't going anywhere. Despite some rumor and speculation over the future of the crosshair grille and the cars that wear it, Dodge brand boss, Tim Kuniskis, sat down with TheDetroitBureau.com, explaining that the marque isn't going anywhere. His sentiments echo those of SRT boss Ralph Gilles, who told a group of enthusiasts in July that "Dodge is here to stay!"
Dodge's death won't be "a part of a master plan to consolidate brands," Kuniskis told TheDetroitBureau.com. Instead, the brand, which is ultimately under the command of Fiat/Chrysler CEO, Sergio Marchionne, will likely ditch some of its badge-engineered models, like the Dodge Grand Caravan. A more focused Dodge, which was something Gilles has already hinted at, will likely see it exploring areas of the market that haven't been exploited by other Chrysler brands.
Kuniskis, not surprisingly, wasn't willing to delve into any detailed product plans, telling TDB that the size of the brand's lineup "remains to be seen." Regardless of how big the brand actually ends up being (it is presently Chrysler's volume brand - and not by a little), hopefully the statements from Kuniskiss can put the rumors of a Dodge closure to bed.
Marchionne on Alfa's US return, Dodge Dart's powertrain weakness and minivan plans
Fri, 18 Jan 2013As a reporter covering an auto show, the one opportunity you never want to miss is going to the Sergio Marchionne press briefing.
"This undertaking to bring Alfa back is a one-shot deal... We are not going to do this twice."
There just aren't that many real characters left in the auto industry. Marchionne, who sits atop both Chrysler and Fiat, is not only one of the smartest execs in the business, but also the most frank. Herein, a sample of the quotable always-sweatered executive:
Chrysler will debut a fully electric Pacifica at CES
Sun, Dec 11 2016Fiat Chrysler Automotive will debut a fully electric version of its Pacifica minivan at CES, according to a report from Bloomberg citing "people familiar with the plans." There's already a plug-in hybrid Pacifica model with a battery large enough to allow for an all-electric range of 30 miles. It's unclear if it's this electric version of FCA's minivan that will be the basis of the self-driving vehicle the automaker will provide to Google. Bloomberg's report also suggests that FCA has an electric vehicle in the works for the Maserati brand. This Tesla-fighting vehicle has been rumored for some time, with previous reports pointing for a debut in 2020. In other words, we don't expect to see an electric Maserati at CES, but we'd love to be surprised. And we'll know soon enough – CES starts in less than month. Stay tuned.
