Pentastar Power: A look inside the Detroit factory that pumps out FCA's potent V6

The Mack Avenue Engine Plant is one of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' most historic and prolific factories. It pumped out 260,000 Pentastar V6 engines last year, providing power for everything from the Jeep Grand Cherokee to the Dodge Challenger. FCA and its predecessor, Chrysler, has owned the factory since 1953 and it briefly built the Dodge Viper in the 1990s. It's made engines since 1998 and began building the Pentastar in 2014. Chrysler trademark suggest new Rebel in the family

Trademark filings can be a first alert in the auto industry that something is coming. For example, Lamborghini trademarked Aventador before we saw its supercar, and Chevrolet did the same thing with Z28. Other times, an automaker files to protect a name and never does anything with it. Chrysler is dredging up a brand from the past by filing a US request for "Rebel." The name is specifically for "motor vehicles, namely automobiles, trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles and structural parts therefor," according to Ignitionist quoting the filing.
In the US, Rebel was previously used on some American Motors Corporation models. It even spawned a muscle car version called the Machine (pictured above). Chrysler eventually bought AMC when it bowed out of the auto industry in 1987.
Chrysler's plans for the name are a complete mystery at the moment. Although, it probably won't be a midsize sedan like the original. That just seems too unlikely given the brand's current, established lineup. Rebel seems like a fantastic name for the performance trim of a vehicle, though. The Jeep Renegade Rebel has a nice ring to it, and a Ram 1500 Rebel pickup could also work. We're going to have to wait and see what's in store for the moniker. 2017 Chrysler Model Year Preview and Updates

FCA's now-iconic minivan is all-new. The 'Town & Country' tag is out, a resurrected CHRYSLER PACIFICA tag is in, and both the design and content are transformational – at least in the context of a minivan available in North America. And for those looking to both capacity and efficiency, Chrysler now offers a plug-in Pacifica hybrid with 30+ miles of all-electric range. While all Pacifica trims represent good value, with federal tax credits the Pacifica Plug-In is great value. 200: In 2017 Chrysler offers a 200 with both a new Dark Appearance package and an Alloy Edition. The 'Alloy' offers a sport-tuned suspension in combination with an all-wheel-drive system featuring a 'sport' mode for better all-season traction. And then, of course, Chrysler discontinued the 200, citing a lack of all-season sales traction. 300: The venerable (translation: 'old') 300 continues the long run with fourth-generation Uconnect, along with the addition of both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Beyond that, it's a new year with new colors, trims and packaging. And while the platform may be showing its age, it remains a compelling option for those wanting upmarket content at a reasonably accessible ($30K to $40K) price point.
