1955 CHRYSLER C300You are looking at a very fine example of the first muscle car, the 1955 Chrysler C300. This is an original California 'Black Plate' car, and I have owned it for 20 years. I have restored/refurbished the complete car, except for the paint. It is the original black paint, and has terrific patina with the surface rust. It is surface rust only, and the car shows no other rust. I have redone the upholstery and many, many other items, but have opted to keep the paint original because they 'are original only once.' There are also some original factory stamps in the engine compartment that I do not want to lose. I have ownership records back to 1977. The car has always been in Southern California. The following is an extensive list of the work that I have completed in the past twenty years: Beautiful complete leather interior purchased from Gary Goers. A professional upholstery shop installed the front and rear seat leather, black carpet, new headliner, new dash, new door panels, new wind visors, new package tray, and complete new trunk carpet and sideboards. A new complete wiring harness was purchased from YnZ's, and professionally installed. The harness is beautiful, cost $1,800, and is the correct reproduction wire. All electric window motors were rebuilt. The transmission and torque converter were professionally rebuilt, and work great. The original generator was rebuilt. The original gas tank was removed and refurbished, and a new sending unit installed. The interior and exterior door handles are in very good/ excellent condition. The drip rails have been reworked and operate correctly. The original 150 MPH speedometer was removed and professionally rebuilt. The Town and Country radio looks great, plays great, and was professionally rebuilt. New heater and radiator hoses were installed. There is a new dimmer switch. There are new, correct, per original battery cables. The battery is new. The radiator was removed and rebuilt. There is a new water pump and fuel pump. The original Carter dual 4V carburetors have been rebuilt. The original 'Bat Wing' air cleaner has been removed and cleaned. The car currently has five Kelsey Hayes/Motor Wheel wire wheels, four caps, and are in very good condition. The car comes with the five original steel wheels, and four original '300' wheel covers. There are used tires mounted on these original wheels. I installed a new auxiliary Airtex electric fuel pump, with an 'on/off' switch under the dash. The real tail light lenses are New Old Stock, and have no cracks or blemishes. The two front parking lights are also NOS. The round center reflector 'dots' on the rear taillights are new. The front and rear bumpers and guards have been re-chromed. The front headlight bezels and the taillight housings have also been re-chromed. The front grills were removed and re-chromed. The '300' badges, front and trunk, are new from Gary Goers. The hood has new CHRYSLER letters. All of the dash gauges and switches were removed and refurbished. The interior stainless steel and chrome pieces have been removed and polished. The exterior stainless trim is all original, complete, and has some minor dings. The trim has never been removed. The steering wheel has been refurbished, and looks great. The horn ring is in excellent condition, and these are virtually impossible to find in any condition. The horn works. The master cylinder and booster have been rebuilt. All four of the wheel cylinders are new. The brake and gas pedals are new. There is a new exhaust system installed, with new mufflers and chrome tail pipes. The tires are Firestone 8:20x15, and have excellent tread. About 30 years ago, the car was hit in the rear and caused some damage to the trunk lip. This has not been repaired. A replacement set of stainless trim around this area was purchased, and is ready for installation. The body has surface rust on the top, hood, and trunk, and several dings. I liked keeping the 'patina' but the new owner might want to repaint the car. Please be aware that there is body work needed. The underside os the car is very straight, clean, and sturdy, with no rust. The car starts up nicely for having the original 6 volt system. The new battery, wiring, and electric fuel pump are definite assets. The steering is tight, brakes work correctly, and the car tracks straight. The valve covers were removed, valves adjusted, and new gaskets installed. The voltage regulator, distributor cap, points, plugs and rotor are all new. I have always loved the 300's, with the 331" Hemi. However, I am getting too old to do any more repairs: bad back, hips replaced, shoulders, knees etc. It is time for somebody else to be the caretaker for this 'Beautiful Brute.' The car is currently insured with Hagerty Auto Insurance. Please go on their website to use their excellent vintage car price guide. They collect sales from auctions and private sales. Hagerty currently values a #1 300 at $130,000; a #2 300 at $90,000; a #3 300 at $58,000; and a #4 at $38,000. I believe this 300 is in very good to fine condition, between a #4 and #3. The paint is the question mark. There were originally 1,725 1955 C-300's built. This serial number 2554, and there are estimated to be less than 300 still in existence. Please call me with any questions, 805-210-0848. Thanks for looking, Happy Bidding, and Happy Motoring. On May-24-15 at 23:33:50 PDT, seller added the following information: PS---The standard features on a C300 included the following: FirePower 90' V-8, hemispherical combustion chamber(Hemi), 331.1 cubic inches, 300 horsepower; aluminum alloy pistons, 8.5 to 1 compression ratio;solid lifters; long duration cam; two down-draft Carter four barrel carburetors, mounted on a special intake manifold; dual point distributor; heavy duty front and rear springs with lowered car height; heavy duty shock absorbers; and dual exhaust. Serial #2554 had a 3.54 to 1 axle ratio,Powerflite transmission; beige leather interior; electric window lifts, front and rear; heater; solex tinted glass, all windows; four way electric seat adjustment; radio-electric touch tuner, with foot control; rear seat speaker.

NHTSA closes investigation on 4.7M FCA power modules, no recall

Thu, Jul 30 2015

FCA US hasn't had the best time with recalls as of late. Not only did the company recently agree to greater safety oversight and paid $105 million to the government, that came just days after hacking fears prompted a 1.4-million model recall campaign. However, a recent decision to close an investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration means that the automaker doesn't have to worry about another major recall possibly affecting 4.7 million vehicles, according to the agency's report (as a PDF). Last September, the Center for Auto Safety petitioned NHTSA to investigate an alleged problem with the totally integrated power module (TIPM) on these FCA US models. The group claimed that a fault with the component could cause a variety of maladies, including stalls, not starting, catching fire, unintended acceleration, and airbag non-deployment. At the time, it also submitted 70 cases where this had reportedly happened. According to NHTSA, "no valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, or fire resulting from TIPM faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components." The agency did find signs of an issue with the fuel pump relay in some Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durangos, but FCA US issued recalls for the problem in September 2014 and February 2015. Without anything else to go on, the Feds don't think it's worth investigating this topic any more.

More Ram trucks recalled over tailgate issue

Wed, May 29 2019

Almost a year ago Fiat Chrysler recalled roughly 1.6 million Ram trucks over an issue with the locking power tailgate. The actuator limiter tab for the power locking mechanism could fracture, which would permit the actuator's lock-rod control to move beyond its limits. That would pull the locking rods open, thereby allowing the tailgate to open at any time. The 2018 recall covered Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 pickups from the 2015 to 2017 model years, with the five-foot-seven and six-foot-four beds and the power locking tailgate option. Trucks with eight-foot beds, and those with manual-locking tailgates, were excluded. The trucks with eight-foot beds have been added to the recall as of earlier this month, putting 410,351 more trucks in the pool. According to Consumer Reports, Ram redesigned the locking assembly on the other two shorter bed sizes for trucks built after August 2, 2017, which was the end of the 2017 model year. But the eight-foot long-bed trucks didn't get the redesigned part until April 2, 2018 for some reason, making all eight-foot-bed pickups from the 2015 model year to April 1, 2018 part of the recall equation. FCA says it's not aware of any accidents or injuries because of the issue. The company plans to notify owners on June 28. The paperwork filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration doesn't advise owners to stop driving the trucks, but nor does it instruct owners on how to address the problem in the meantime. Sounds like bungee cords might be the go. The fix is estimated to take 30 minutes at the dealer and entails removing the tailgate cover and installing a stop block to prevent the locking actuator's pivot arm from traveling too far. FCA says it will reimburse owners for any other repairs made to address the problem. Meanwhile, owners can contact Fiat Chrysler Automobiles customer service at 800-853-1403, and refer to FCA's number for this recall, V44. The NHTSA campaign number is 19V-347. Last year's recall comes under FCA number U74, and NHTSA campaign number 18V-486. Ram's not alone on this field. The NHTSA continues to investigate the 2017 Ford Super Duty pickups for a similar issue.

Long winter means most automakers won't curb summer shutdown

Sun, 18 May 2014

A lot more happened during this latest brutal winter than days of snow and Netflix binges. Automotive sales took a battering. After all, going out car shopping when it's eleventy-billion degrees below zero isn't a good time.
Because of this Old Man Winter-induced sales slump, inventories are abnormally high as we head into the summer car buying season. That's led some analysts to predict that automakers will be more inclined to idle factories this summer, in a bid to trim some of the built-up inventory. Traditionally, American manufacturers offer up a two-week break in the middle of summer, although the burgeoning sales of the past few years have seen this practice become less popular.
"We're likely not going to see an acceleration this year," Jeff Schuster, a senior vice president at LMC Automotive, told The Detroit News. "We'll see production increases in 'pockets' but I don't know if it will be as widespread as in recent years."
