Watch Danica Patrick go undercover as a Lyft driver
Fri, Feb 19 2016Danica Patrick went undercover as a worker for Lyft in Charlotte, NC, and gave a few lucky people the rare opportunity to take a ride with a famous racecar driver. Patrick just needed some aviator sunglasses and a big hat to hide her identity, but she dropped plenty of hints about her real profession along the way. Patrick plays up the role of an overly aggressive Lyft driver by taking corners at high speed and challenging other vehicles to stoplight drag races. She also slides in some NASCAR-related jokes about getting too close to other cars and trying to cover 500 miles in a few hours every Sunday. Her clients seem enthused by her assertive style, too. This clip is entertaining, but we think Patrick missed an opportunity for a detour to the speedway to do a quick lap. The stunt would have made for an even better reveal of her true identity, but these folks probably had places they needed to go.
GM recalls trucks and SUVs for brake pedal problem
Thu, Feb 11 2016The Basics: General Motors will recall over 473,000 North American examples of the 2015-2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, GMC Sierra HD, and police pursuit versions of the Chevy Tahoe. These include 426,573 vehicles in the US and 46,837 in Canada, according to Reuters. The Problem: The brake pivot nut can loosen over time, which can render the pedal inoperative. This would be a danger to drivers trying to stop the vehicles. In some cases, the "Service Engine Soon" light might come on. Injuries/Deaths: None reported. The Fix: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt, and if necessary they will apply adhesive to it and reinstall the part with increased torque. Correction: Dealers will inspect the pivot bolt installation to determine whether the vehicle has already received the production remedy. If not, the dealer will add adhesive to the nut, and reinstall the nut at an increased torque. Chevy Silverado Midnight Edition, Custom ready to stand out in pickup line
Thu, Feb 12 2015Chevrolet spent its Chicago Auto Show introducing a pair of fullsize pickups that promise image-conscious buyers a truck experience that goes beyond the standard range, with the murdered-out Midnight Edition and the um, not murdered-out, Custom. Let's start with the Custom, which adds 20-inch alloys, as well as chrome bumpers, mirror caps and door handles to the Silverado LS. Available in both V6 and V8 varieties, and with the customer's choice of two- or four-wheel drive, the Silverado Custom is the decidedly mellower example of Chevy's special edition styling. The Midnight Edition, meanwhile, throws subtlety out the window with a menacing set of visual upgrades. Based on the Z71, the Midnight adds 18-inch wheels, a spray-in bedliner and unique Z71 and Bowtie badges, all in black, of course. The front and rear bumpers, headlamp bezels, tow hooks, mirror caps and door handles, are also finished in the stealthy shade.
