This is a cool 2008 Tahoe -- it has a clear CA title and brand new CA License plates.  It has just passed its smog test and its registration is good until next August.  This car started life as a white Tahoe service vehicle in Virginia.  It was well kept and has a relatively low mileage count of 83K miles.  It was bought a year ago by a production company and taken to Detroit where it was used in a commercial.  For filming it was painted and dressed as a Michigan State Police SUV.  That's why it is currently the light blue that it is.

Before I could buy the car, all of the police badges and sirens had to be removed -- it is illegal to drive a fully dressed cop car ... even in Detroit.  The search lights remain on the front windshield pillars and seem to be wired but not functional.  You will see in the pictures a few shots of it BEFORE I drove it away where it has all of its POLICE badges etc.  When all of that was removed we plugged the drill holes from the siren on the roof with rubber stoppers.  Also there was a POLICE sign on the hood that we removed and plugged the drill holes.  The drill holes are pretty small but evident.  The paint is good not fantastic.  There are a few spots where you can see drip lines -- on the driver door there are a few drip lines that used to be covered by the POLICE decals.

If you don't know these cars you will need to know that the interior has cloth buckets up front and a leather bench for a second row.  There is no console as cop SUVs typically have guns locked to the floor between the seats.  For a carpet there is a rubber mat -- presumably so that if you are transporting a bad guy who is bleeding or puking ... you can just hose it out the next morning.  I have checked on EBAY and you can buy all kinds of goodies to make this truck just like a soccer mom's -- you can buy a third row bench or a console that fits perfectly between the front buckets.  Or just leave it all copped out ...

It has a CD player that works -- the AC works great -- it drives really nice as I drove it 700 miles in a day through UTAH earlier this summer.  I am posting the pictures I have right now -- I may post a few additional ones that show the plugged holes.  I am not dead set on selling this truck -- I am open to trades for classic cars -- running or not -- 57 Belair or 70 Chevelle -- I'd look at anything.  The car is at my shop and it's registered and insured so come take a look if you are serious.  I reserve the right to end the auction at anytime.  Thanks for reading ...

Reminder the car started life WHITE -- it was painted LIGHT BLUE and NO LONGER has POLICE DECALS AND LIGHTS.

It has a really cool PUSH GUARD on the front so you can disperse your local riot or flee the zombie apocalypse in fine style.

Where the 2023 GMC Sierra AT4X fits into the hierarchy of off-road trucks

Fri, Oct 22 2021

The world of off-road pickups sure seems like it's getting crowded, but the reality is that half-ton trucks were always pretty capable, even with what seemed like fairly basic 4x4 packages. It wasn't until recently that manufacturers really started to carve out different off-road niches for their mainstream pickup offerings. With the introduction of the 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X (alongside its mechanical twin, the Chevy Silverado ZR2), the crowd has grown even thicker. Even we have trouble keeping up with the increased segmentation of off-road pickup trucks, so we threw together this handy guide to help you understand just where these various packages fit into the broader pickup hierarchy. Let's dive in.  Your basics If we say "Z71" or "FX4" to you, both will probably ring a bell. That's because they've been around a few days short of forever and their respective customers have grown so used to these package codes that OEMs got into the habit of just plastering them on the side of so-equipped truck beds. Anybody who sells a pickup truck offers some sort of basic off-road prep package like this one. Z71 is found on GM vehicles; FX4 is Ford's. Ram just calls it "Off Road Group," but no matter what you call them, they're all pretty similar.  Typical upgrades for this category include some additional ground clearance, a basic all-terrain tire, heavy-duty suspension upgrades and likely either a limited-slip or locking rear differential. These are pretty handy for anything beyond a rutted dirt road. On newer trucks — especially on higher trim levels — you'll probably also get some dedicated off-road drive modes.  Mid-range This is where things start to get interesting. To qualify for this category, a locking rear differential is a must. Most of the names in this segment are well-established too, though some (Nissan Titan Pro-4X, anyone?) may not necessarily be on your radar. The Toyota Tundra TRD Pro checks in here, as does the Ram Rebel, Chevy Silverado Trail Boss and GMC Sierra AT4 (no X!).  Realistically, if there's somewhere you need to go and one of these trucks won't do it, you might want to consider a helicopter. But it's 2021, and our thirst for capability is strong, so of course, there's a way to spend more of your money on this type of thing. Onward! Entry-hardcore Here we are, the home of the new 2022 GMC Sierra AT4X and Chevrolet Silverado ZR2. This is a tiny niche, otherwise occupied only by the Ford F-150 Tremor.

Most of the US won't get 2016 Chevy Volt

Tue, Sep 8 2015

Every major plug-in vehicle launch in the US has been a patchwork operation, with automakers focusing their initial efforts on targeted locations like California where they expect to sell the most units. Today, we learned that even five years into the plug-in car project, the game remains the same. According to GM, the second-gen Chevy Volt is going to be rolled out in the same manner. In fact, GM is limiting availability of the 2016 model year Volt so much that most of the US will not have access to the car at all. For 39 states, the second-gen Volt will first be available as a 2017 model year vehicle at some point in the spring of 2016. When GM announced the buying process for the new Volt, it made it clear that dealers in California would be the first to place their orders. Hybrid Cars now reports that the first deliveries will be also limited to California and 10 other states that follow the California Air Resourced Board (CARB) rules: Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maryland , Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, and Vermont. GM spokesman Kevin Kelly told AutoblogGreen that this is all according to plan. "Chevrolet has a shortened model year for the 2016 Chevy Volt that will have a limited distribution network," he said. "The 2016 Volt will be sold in our strongest EREV markets. The 2017 Chevrolet Volt will begin production early this spring and will be available throughout the country." It appears that non-CARB state Volt customers will be able to order their Volts starting October 1, according to documents posted on Hybrid Cars, where we also learn that 2016 Volt production for California started in August, will begin in late October for the other 10 CARB states, and in early 2016 for the rest of the US. Unsurprisingly, dealers outside of the 11 CARB states have been complaining that they can't order the much-anticipated new Volt for their customers just yet. Related Video:

GM to restore legendary Corvette damaged in sinkhole accident

Fri, Dec 5 2014

Car lover's hearts' sank when they saw images of bent and destroyed classic Corvettes at the bottom of a sinkhole last February after the floor of the National Corvette Museum gave way. General Motors announced Wednesday it would restore the one millionth Corvette ever produced to its former glory. The 1992 convertible was heavily damaged when a 40-foot deep sinkhole opened beneath a bevy of rare cars at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Since then, GM has been slowly restoring the classic cars, though five of the eight that caught in the sinkhole were determined to be too damaged to repair. This November, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil was the first car to be returned in mint condition to the Museum, according to Autoblog. It suffered significant damage but was still drivable after being pulled out of the debris. The one millionth Corvette is still in bad shape. The automaker is estimating six months worth of work to restore the car, which sustained paint scratches, rear-suspension damage and a mangled front fender.
