This well used 1995 2500 Diesel Suburban starts and runs well.  It handles like a dream in deep snow is and incredibly comfortable on long trips.  I bought this in 2008 with about 237,000 miles and have driven it in a limited capacity, but regularly, since.  While the body is in poor condition, the mechanicals on this vehicle are solid.  I would not hesitate to drive this SUV any distance.  For the last five years, we have used it exclusively for trips longer than 100 miles and recreational travel (biking/kayaking) as our other car is small and electric.  Tires are in very good condition - spare is included.

Air conditioning/heat works perfectly.  Two zone system allow passengers in the back to control their own AC/heat.  4WD works perfectly.  As soon as I took ownership of the Suburban I took care of two big ticket fixes:  Transmission was rebuilt by professional local shop (Automatic Transmission Design, Inc.).  Injector Pump replaced with professionally rebuilt IP and installed by local garage specializing in diesel repair (Richfield Auto).  If bought locally, the starter and alternator have have replaced by lifetime warranted pieces.  Most recently, ABS sensors replaced on front brakes and brake system inspection completed.  The brakes have plenty of life left on them.  I also had a replacement exhaust custom fabricated for this SUV as it was tough to find a replacement system.  They took the exhaust back from after the headers all the way to the tailpipe.

I detailed some of the cosmetic defects above, but I will try to list as many as I can remember here:
  • Patches of surface rust
  • Patches of body rust near front doors
  • Front passenger door will not open from the inside (broken latch - not uncommon with late 1990's Chevy SUV's)
  • Rear passenger door will not lock and window will not roll down (removed faulty motor for window and replaced with 1X4 to hold window in place)
  • Front passenger bumper bent upward (no subsequent damage to any mechanicals i.e. oil lines, radiator)
  • Rear driver bumper dented and bent slightly upward
  • Driver running board missing a bolt
  • Windshield cracked
  • Some vegetable oil stains on rear passenger floor
Mechanical issues I am aware of:
  • Smoking on startup
  • Slight oil leak
  • Some 'blowby' through the oil dipstick
  • Cruise control inoperable
  • Air bag light on
  • Missing one lug nut on rear passenger tire (should get myself to NAPA to get this - old one was rounded off a little)
Now for the fun!  I converted this vehicle to WVO using a professionally designed Greasecar System.  This system involved a second 40 gallon tank specifically for WVO, and a two fuel system under the hood.  Basically, you can run on diesel, then when the vehicle has heated to a certain temperature, you switch it over to free waste vegetable oil.  Before you finish your trip you switch back to diesel and you are good to go.  We have saved $1000's of dollars on diesel fuel using this system, but the hobby is at an end for us.  As such, we are also including a WVO starter kit - everything you will need to filter and run WVO in this system.  (Even a little oil if you want it.)  You will need a trailer to get this starter kit to your home.  The tank on the truck currently is about 1/2 full with clean WVO.  I run the system periodically to keep it working properly.

With this WVO starter kit I am offering
  • Filtering - storage barrel.  This barrel has two valves in the bottom portion of the barrel.  One to pump out sediment, the other to pump clear free fuel into your Greasecar
  • Barrel heater.  You use the barrel heater to heat the oil in the barrel and allow the sediment to settle to the bottom upon cooling
  • 1/2 hp pump.  Used to pump oil from the barrel to the filter canister
  • Filter canister and filters.  Pressurized canister containing a filter that runs to a gas pump style hose.  This ensures the oil going in your tank is free of any sediment.
  • Two food grade 35 gallon barrels.  For oil storage.
  • One 55 gallon barrel.  More oil storage.
  • A few cubes with some unfiltered WVO in them
Note:  You do not need to run WVO in this vehicle.  You could leave the system in place and run only on diesel if you wish with no harm to the truck.  You could also remove the system fairly simply (if you have a rudimentary understanding of diesel engines).  It would take me about one hour to restore (not offering to do it, just giving an idea of the complexity).  You could also continue running this truck on WVO if you wish.  It is a relatively hassle free way to drive for free.

As with any 20 year old vehicle, this is being sold AS IS, WHERE IS.  You must arrange for shipping/pickup and no warranty is offered or implied.  I have attempted to describe this vehicle as completely as I can, but if there are issues with the vehicle not covered in the above description, I am not liable for them.  This is a No Reserve auction.  If you bid on this, you may win it.  Please be prepared to pay for this and arrange shipping or pick up.  I am unable to deliver this vehicle for you.  If you want WVO system, you will need some type of trailer as equipment will not all fit in the Suburban.

After your winning bid:
I would like $500 within 48 hours of close.  Paypal only please.  The balance upon pickup/delivery when I will provide you with the clear title.  Balance must be in cash, cashier's check verified during banking hours, Paypal or escrow.com.  If shipping, I will not allow pickup until I have verified funds.

Any questions at all, please contact me through Ebay and I will respond asap.

Thank you,
Eric

2022 Chevy Tahoe, Suburban and GMC Yukon get updated transmission

Sat, Dec 25 2021

General Motors' full-sized SUVs have slipped in one more change before the year turns. GM Authority reports that the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, and the 2022 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL equipped with gas V8 engines, will pick up a revised ten-speed automatic transmission. The new unit carries RPO code MHS, and Chevrolet communications rep Catherine Scales told GMA the updated gearbox "allows our manufacturing and dealer teams to more easily align the specific calibration needed for the transmission and can enable OTA updates in the future." It seems GM wants to make it easier to update the transmission's tuning and calibration in the future with the automaker's networked Vehicle Intelligence Platform/Global B electronic architecture. The 10-speed auto comes bolted to the 5.3-liter V8 and the 6.2-liter V8. The 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax diesel continues with the 10-speed automatic already in use. To recap the other changes for the full-sizers, we'll start with the 2022 Tahoe and Suburban, which get a new 12.3-inch digital instrument display to replace the former 8-inch unit and physical gauges. Navigation will be standard equipment displayed on the 10.2-inch infotainment touchscreen on all trims barring the base LS. Lane-keeping assist and parking sensors are also now standard, while reverse automatic braking is added to the Enhanced Display and Alert package on the top trims. Finally, the 6.2-liter V8 option is expanded to the Z71, RST and Premier trim levels, but it requires selecting one or more packages on the Z71 and RST. Moving onto the 2022 Yukon, availability of the 6.2-liter V8 expands to the AT4 trim, and the big V8 comes with a shiny pair of exhaust finishers. Redwood Metallic paint joins the exterior color palette, more wheel options are on offer, and illuminated sill plates can gussy up the rocker panels . An Enhanced Trailering Technology Package adds 13 cameras with the option for an interior accessory camera for those with enclosed haulers. On the safety side, expect reverse automatic braking to join the list of available driver assistance features. Inside, the Yukon welcomes the 12.3-inch digital cluster, the Yukon Denali welcomes the power sliding console as a standard feature instead of a $350 option.  Related Video:

2016 Chevy Volt ads strike frustrating, yet familiar, chord

Fri, Oct 2 2015

Sometimes, it's hard to let go. In the six years that GM has been advertising and selling the Chevy Volt, one dominant message is that the car is an EV without any range anxiety. On the one hand, this is a positive thing: our car does something that other electric vehicles don't. Of course, there's another, more reasonable take on the message that EVs only equal limited range: don't promote this viewpoint if you ever plan on selling a pure EV. But, of course, this is exactly what GM is doing with a new ad for the 2016 Chevy Volt. Called Elevator, the spot (watch it above) compares driving an all-electric car with riding in an elevator getting stuck. Your Nissan Leaf might run out of electricity, the ad says, and that would be as uncomfortable as being trapped between floors. The main problem, of course, is that Chevy also offers the Spark EV and is getting ready to sell the Bolt EV. Does the company think that everyone will forget these anti-EV commercials when it come time to shop for a Bolt? Even worse, does GM think we've forgotten the Anthem ad for the Volt back in 2010? Apparently, so. Elevator isn't the only ad for the 2016 Volt that GM debuted today. The other, called Time Capsule (below), takes a swipe at the Toyota Prius. Trouble is, there are two easy ways to dismiss this ad as well. First, and most obviously, if GM is against using old technology, then why does it continue to shove a 100-year-old fossil fuel engine into almost every car it builds? Second, attacking the Prius for using 15-year-old tech – when said tech is still able to mop the floor with any hybrid from GM in the fuel economy race - is more like an admission of defeat than anything to be proud of. "Hey look, the Prius uses technology from the '90s," GM says. To which the observant viewer will ask, "Well, then why can't you build a 50-mile-per-gallon hybrid, GM?" It's also worth noting that Chevy has been on a misguided advertising streak as of late. We bashed their ads that suggested its Silverado is better than the F-150 because it uses steel instead of aluminum, too, especially since those commercials used shark cages and stupid superhero costumes in an attempt to make a point. Chevy, stop assuming we're all idiots. Please. Now, the 2016 Volt is a great car and I know that GM can make a darn good Volt ad (like this one), so seeing the company shoot solid fuel-efficient technologies in the back (again and again) is just frustrating.
