Chevy Volt gets customer satisfaction 'recall' for rear hatch issue *UPDATE*
Mon, Jan 26 2015Last week, General Motors has issued a "Customer Satisfaction program" for some 2011-2015 model year Chevrolet Volts to fix the manual rear lift gate not working as appropriate. According to Volt owner posts on Facebook, the problem manifests itself by the hatch not opening up all the way (sometimes worse in the cold) with some people bumping their heads. Dealers will replace the lift gate struts as part of the program. Some drivers were notified through the vehicle's OnStar system that there is a problem. GM has not yet said how many Volts are affected. *UPDATE* This program is for all 2011-2015 model year Volts. Chevrolet spokesperson Michelle Malcho told AutoblogGreen that, "This is not a recall, so there won't be any formal information posted on the GM website." The fixes will be free to affected Volt owners. Some 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX vehicles are also affected by the same problem and will also be fixed. 2016 Chevy Camaro takes a walk on the wild side at SEMA
Tue, Nov 3 2015From highly modified restomods to tuned pickups, Chevrolet has over 20 custom vehicles at this year's SEMA Show. Given the popularity of the Camaro in the aftermarket, it's no surprise that the new, sixth-generation model gets in on that act with four modified examples. Thanks to a combination of concept parts and components on the way in early 2016, Chevy gives future owners an idea of what's possible for their new coupe. Among the group are two takes on the SS trim at opposite ends of the color spectrum. The Chevrolet Performance version is Summit White with red accents, and it uses a lowered suspension to hunker the body over conceptual 20-inch wheels. Alternatively, the Camaro Black wears darkened trim, tinted glass, and matching 20-inch wheels. Chevy beefs up their performance to fit the added style by equipping both customs with exhaust, air intake, and brake upgrades. By far the weirdest among Chevy's group of modded Camaros is the Krypton concept in a custom shade of eye-popping green. This wild paint is electroluminescent, and when the system is activated, illuminated bowties appear across the body. Headlights with matching trim and painted exhaust tips finish off this alien aesthetic. Finally, the Camaro Hyper concept is for those looking for just a little added style for their coupe. Based on the LT trim with the 3.6-liter V6, it features Hyper Blue Metallic paint with white stripes and rides on 20-inch wheels. For a little added performance, coupe uses Chevy's aftermarket exhaust and a lowered suspension. 2016 Chevy Volt will not need premium gas
Wed, Oct 29 2014Buried in the new technical details of the 2016 Chevy Volt released yesterday was a throwaway line about a small but important change that's due to the new 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine. The first-gen Volt has always required premium gas but the new powerplant will be happy burning plain old regular. The Volt's chief engineer, Andrew Farah, told AutoblogGreen that the change was due to today's Volt owners explaining they were not happy paying for top-shelf petroleum. "The ability to use regular unleaded was based directly on customer feedback," he said. "Since the range extender is an all-new engine, it was optimized to use regular unleaded at the outset. Using regular fuel will not have effect on vehicle acceleration or other performance factors." As Larry Nitz, GM's executive director of vehicle electrification, told AutoblogGreen yesterday, the new engine is more powerful and quieter than the outgoing 1.4-liter engine that's used in the current Volt. Fuel economy and EV range specs for the next-gen Volt are not expected until the full car is revealed at the Detroit Auto Show in January.
