1956 Chevrolet Pickup 1/2 Ton on 2040-cars
Waite Park, Minnesota, United States
1956 CHEVROLET PICKUP / 3100 SERIES BEAUTIFUL TRUCK ...JUST TO DRIVE, OR CONTINUE VERY MINOR, REMAINING RESTORATION!! THE INTERIOR , EXTERIOR and WOOD BED, WERE ALL RESTORED ABOUT 6-7 YEARS AGO! THE TIRES AND RIMS ARE LIKE NEW! This is a STOCK vehicle except the 6cyl was replaced with a350 V-8, 4 barrel carb., dual exhaust and wheels and rims. Whoever did the change over did an excellent job. I Purchased this truck just two years ago, on "e-bay", and have had the following repairs done by local "Certified" Mechanics: "REBUILT TRANSMISSION", Rebuild and Re-Wire Starter, Replace Valve Seals, check over clutch assembly, check and re-pack front wheel bearings, and check all brake pads. When I purchased this truck, I was told that everything worked except the horn! When it was delivered, I found that it would not shift from gear to gear without major "GRINDING"....I took it to a mechanic, who specializes in older transmission, and had it rebuilt. He indicated whoever had worked on it, forgot to put the "snap rings" back in place when they assembled the Transmission! I REPLACED ALL BEARINGS and checked all gears and of course had the snap rings installed! The clutch assembly was also checked at this time and was in "very good" condition. The truck, also had a major problem with valve seals, which I had both banks replaced. The starter had problems as well, and needed to be re-wired due to "black electrical tape" type of connections. "Front Wheel Bearings" were checked and re-packed, all brake shoes were checked , and are in good condition. OVER ALL CONDITION OF THIS VEHICLE IS EXCELLENT, IN MY OPINION. The only two things that do not work are the horn and the radio. The radio is not original, but I do have the "original Radio Blank" insert included. There are a few additional minor repairs that I would do if I was to keep this. The doors need to be re-keyed (the keys that I received with the truck fit the ignition and glove box, but not the doors. The heater (which I have never used) should really have the cable assembly , and fan switch replaced or repaired, someone just put an external toggle switch on the fan. UNLIKE THE PERSON THAT I PURCHASED THIS FROM, I HAVE DISCLOSED ALL PROBLEMS, AND OR REPAIRS THAT YOU MAY CHOOSE TO DO!! This truck runs great and is fun to drive, now that I have fixed these items! THE ONLY PROBLEM I HAVE WITH IT, IS I FEEL AS THOUGH I AM IN A PARADE WHENEVER I TAKE IT OUT FOR A DRIVE! IT IS REALLY, A VERY, VERY BEAUTIFUL TRUCK, AND ATTRACTS A LOT OF ATTENTION! The only reason I am selling it is, I just don't have room to store it at my home, and that makes it seldom used. I have 4 other vehicles and have to sell at least one!! This truck wants to be driven!!! THERE ARE NO "DENTS OR SCRATCHES" OF ANY KIND ON THIS TRUCK!!! The ODOMETER READS 35,168 .......I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER THIS IS ACCURATE. This truck has only been driven about 60-70 miles by me. I have stored this inside a warehouse / covered the past two winters. |

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]
Fri, 25 Jan 2013The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

GM trucks get hybrid versions, but you'll probably never see one
Thu, Feb 25 2016A few years ago, General Motors sold hybrid versions of its Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups. They weren't very good, using GM's old two-mode hybrid system that resulted in only negligible fuel economy gains. But GM's trying again, launching eAssist models of the 2016 Silverado and Sierra that are said to offer 2-mpg improvements in city, highway, and combined fuel economy ratings. Problem is, you probably won't be able to get one. Only 700 eAssist trucks will be made for the 2016 model year – 500 Silverados and 200 Sierras. When you consider that GM moved 824,683 examples of its light-duty pickups in 2015, this small run represents 0.08-percent of all Silverado/Sierra production, and GM says it "will monitor the market closely ... and adjust as appropriate moving forward." But that's not the only limitation. The eAssist trucks will only be sold through California dealers. For the Silverado, eAssist can only be optioned on the 1500 Crew Cab 1LT 2WD model, and for the Sierra, the fuel-saving technology is solely available on the 1500 SLT Crew Cab 2WD model with the SLT Premium Plus package. Granted, in terms of the Sierra, that means you get niceties like LED headlights and taillights, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bose premium audio, heated seats and steering wheel, lane keep assist, and more. In the trucks, eAssist combines a small electric motor and 0.45-kWh battery pack with the pickups' 5.3-liter V8. GM estimates total output of 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque – no more horsepower than the non-eAssist trucks, but three more pound-feet of torque. GM says the eAssist trucks can tow up to 9,400 pounds, and the battery only adds 100 pounds to the trucks' weight. The electric motor provides 13 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque for a boost of acceleration off the line, or during passing. It also allows the engine to run in four-cylinder mode for longer periods of time. eAssist uses regenerative braking to help power onboard electrical systems, and adds start/stop to the powertrain. Finally, the so-equipped trucks have a six-percent improvement in aerodynamics, thanks to a soft tonneau cover and active grille shutters in the front fascia. Great news is, the eAssist option is relatively inexpensive, only costing $500. But good luck getting your hands on one.
GM looks to combat high theft rates on SUVs with added tech
Tue, 24 Dec 2013The Cadillac Escalade has been at or near the top of most-stolen and insurance-loss lists for more than seven years, until it dropped to number six earlier this year. In 2011 it was fitted with a host of new security features to address its easy-to-override features and that has brought the number of thefts down, but when eight of the ten most stolen rides are large SUVs from General Motors, no one will argue that something else needs to be done.
Thus, GM has fitted this same theft-deterring tech to the 2015 Suburban, Tahoe and Yukon. The Suburban and Tahoe will get the steering lock that the Escalade and Yukon already get, plus bolted-down third-row seats to deter thefts like this, stronger door lock cylinders and shields, and side-cut keys to inhibit picking.
Additional security measures in a Theft Protection Package can be purchased for $395, consisting of sensors on the greenhouse glass and interior, an incline/tilt sensor and added "key control systems" to make it more difficult for the men in black balaclavas to steal what you bought.
