What we have here is the almost completion of an awesome autocross contender or an awesome pro touring car if that is what you prefer. It has the best of everything and will make someone a show type car that will run with the best of them. I have over $56,500 in parts alone so far in this car and I have the receipts to prove it. That does not include the labor we have invested in it which is probably another $20,000 to $30,000 to say the least. Here is a description of what parts we have purchased, mocked up or installed on the car. On the front, it has a Detroit Speed front clip with the LS engine motor mount options and has been powder coated black. We installed a set of Baer 6 piston Pro plus brake kit with all new proportioning valve, lines and master cylinder. On the rear, it has a Heidts independent rear suspension with a Ford 9" pumpkin and 390 gears. I bought it with the chrome brakes, parking brake kit and it is also powder coated. The engine has a high performance LS6 out of an SS 2001 Camaro with new 3.905" bore Mahle forged pistons, new rods and new crank that was internally balanced. It is built to 10.21 to 1 compression ratio. The block was line bored, line honed and square decked. It has ARP head studs, Clevite main and rod bearings, durabond cam bearings, Comp Cams push rods, custom Comp Cams camshaft degreed per specs, new knock sensors and wiring harness, GM Performance head gaskets, double roller timing chain set, B&M flexplate, Fel Pro gaskets throughout, Proform high torque starter, F.A.S.T. precision flow injectors, GM Performance oil pump, NGK spark plugs, ATI SFI Harmonic Balancer, set of custom LS coil brackets, MSD coils, new bypass tubing and seals, new MAF sensor, ARP flex plates bolts, ARP stainless header studs and ARP balancer bolt. We have all the blueprint clearances available for whomever purchases the car. I had custom Forgeline Wheels made for the offsets we needed on the car. The fronts are 9" wide and the rears are 12" wide. The front tires are BF Goodrich G-force T/A KDW 255/35R 18 and the rears are 335/30 18's. I have new carpet, vintage air ac/heat system which has been mock fit, Corbeau racing seats and sliding brackets that are already installed, new Be Cool Aluminum Radiator, new aluminum fuel cell with an Autometer in the tank A-1000 Stealth fuel pump, new autometer fuel filters, new Lemon headers that still need to be ceramic coated, a custom drive shaft, custom transmission support, painless 18 circuit wiring harness, painless engine fuel injection wiring harness, Lokar billet gas pedal and matching brake pedal, Flaming River tilt steering column, new bumper brackets that have been powder coated, dynamat sound deadener, SCE copper header gaskets, Locar billet door handles, electric window kits installed on door windows, new electric window switch kit, new Optima battery, new powder coated radiator core support, custom steel factory hood with SS chevelle hood scoops and new chrome inserts, a Phoenix Transmissions 4L80E and the engine has a Vintage Air Front Runner serpentine system in polished aluminum. The body has been put on a rotisserie and blasted. All the bad metal has been replaced including both full quarters, both rocker panels, both pillar posts, and the floors had been replaced before I got this project. The deck lid will need to be replaced because someone warped it and it had a lot of bondo. The front windshield has been flush mounted to get rid of the wind noise and drag associated with older car designs. The firewall has already been painted GM pearl white which is one of the colors we had anticipated on using when we finish painted the car. Almost everything on the car is new including the custom guages in the dash. I am sure I left some stuff out, but if you know anything about building cars you can see that we didn't cut corners! |

Driving McLaren's Sports Car and 'The Best Corvette' at the M1 Concourse | AutoblogVR
Wed, Apr 12 2017There's nothing better than a track day. Great cars on a great track are always great fun. Recently, we had the opportunity to check out the new M1 Concourse in Pontiac, MI, with two of the coolest cars in the game; a McLaren 570S and a Corvette Grand Sport. Driving the 570S was Autoblog senior editor Greg Migliore, and he didn't hold back. Getting behind the wheel of the McLaren, Greg explains that although this is McLaren's idea of a sports car, "it's all relative." Topping out at 204 miles per hour with 562 horsepower, there's no two ways about it: this thing is a monster. While the 570S was fantastic, we had another sports car we wanted to drive and editor-in-chief Mike Austin was just the man for the job. Enter the Corvette Grand Sport. Mike pushed all 460 horses of the 'Vette to the limit and came away impressed with the car, even calling it "the best Corvette." Comparing it to its more powerful sibling, the Z06, Mike goes so far as to say the Z06 has too much power, while the Grand Sport seems to be the third bear's bowl of porridge in the Corvette family... It's just right. We captured all the action of the day with 360° cameras so you can feel like you're right there in the car sitting shotgun with us! You can check out the McLaren and Corvette laps above, but the best way to view them is through the AutoblogVR app, where you can watch the videos on your VR headset or in a nice swivel-y office chair so you can take in the sights all around you. Each month, new episodes will launch on the AutoblogVR App. We'll be posting them here on Autoblog, but for the best experience, head over to the app, which you can download for free from the App store and Google Play. Be sure to try it with a cardboard viewer, too!
Chevy Sonic shreds like a skateboard
Tue, 19 Mar 2013Despite the fact that the 2013 Chevy Sonic is a fun, plucky little thing - especially in ever-so-slightly hotter RS guise - it is not, in fact, a skateboard. But don't tell that to rapper Theophilus London.
In General Motors' latest spot for the Chevrolet compact, London needs to make a quick run to the store for some milk. And even though, once again, the Sonic is not a skateboard, it ollies, pops and gets air because, you know, it's just so much fun to throw around.
If this video looks familiar to you, it's because this is the full ad that we first got a preview of in Chevy's longer, full-line spot, where the brand's "Find New Roads" tagline was introduced. Scroll down to see this dedicated Sonic spot, along with the older ad, and remember, the Sonic is still - still - not a skateboard.
