Here is my detailed report on this vehicle which was prompted by some of your questions.

I will be using a scale of 1-10       Here is my guide:

1-being beyond repair         5-being functional but needing cosmetic repair or vice versa      10-being completely perfect or good as original

As I stated in the description and from what you can't see in the pictures, are some minor cosmetic imperfections. Small scratches, chips, and dents are present, but they are very minuet. I will send you a few pictures to clarify.   If the paint and body was literally 100% flawless, (which would be better than the factory finish) is a 10 - this car would be a 7.   If there were no blemishes that occurred after the paint job I would give it a 8.
Whoever restored this vehicle did a good job, however there are some slight waves in the body, a few specs of dirt in the paint, and some variation in smoothness in certain areas. If you had a body man , he could bring this vehicle to an 8 with a bottle of touch up paint and some wet sanding/ buffing.

The chrome bumpers and some of the trim has been redone - and is a 9
Other metal trim pieces / emblems  are original and are in very good condition.
Very minor blemishes render the rest of the trim a 8

The wearable items (brakes, tires, ect.) are all new or near new - 9

The glass is all original and is in very good condition. Some very minor blemishes and typical slight delamination in the corners, hardly noticeable - 9

The engine, transmission, and differential, (and their counterparts) are numbers matching and in great condition , cosmetically and mechanically. I will say an 8 for cosmetic and a 9 for mechanically operable. 396cid Turbo Jet/325hp - 400 hydramatic (Turbo 400)  12 Bolt Posi ( I believe 3.08 gears - If you need to know for sure I will find out positively  its either 3.08 or 3.55)

The suspension has mostly been replaced/restored and is an 8 cosmetically and a 9 for operable as well .

The electrical system and everything it encompasses is sound and all functions are operable with the exception of the 8-track. It seems someone has possibly had a modern radio head installed at sometime in the past and when they put the original 8-trck back in, they did not bother to connect it electronically.  - I will investigate this more if desired. Other than that - this gets a 9 for function and a 9 for appearance. (wire routing, splicing, ect)

The interior is mostly all original we suspect.  The vinyl seats, panels, and dash are in very good condition. you may find a small superficial hairline crack, but for the most part, it is as good as it gets. Some minor dullness (you can see in the pictures). The plastic and metal parts are all in fine shape. Anything less than what it looked like in 1968 is due to time, not wear. Some dullness and light checking. (you can see this on the steering wheel in the pictures) . The top is new and functions as designed.  Interior score - 7 with the potential to be an 8 with a bottle of interior refresher / conditioner and some time.

Trunk, engine compartment, and undercarriage - Pictures speak for it - 8 or 9 ?

I will say this vehicle over all is an 8.  You can see what it sold for at Barrett Jackson by clicking the link above.   I believe that alone should instill your confidence in this vehicle.  This car is a cross between a show car and a driver.  It may not be the best at the Barrett Jackson type auctions but it might be the nicest one at your local car show. This is a car you can drive and enjoy without having to worry about every bug that hits your windshield. This car appeals to every type of potential owner. It can be a driver, show car, collector piece, small project, or all of the above. If it were mine, I would drive and enjoy it as a "Sunday car", touch up little things as I go,(and as more develop inevitable from use) and take it to car shows.

If you are looking to do a restoration, - this is not the car

If you are looking for a trailer queen - this is not the car ( but it can be I suppose)

This is a car that is in probably as good as shape as the late model car you drive everyday, and I bet this 1968 Impala will cost less than the car you are driving now. Just saying - what kind of car can you buy nowadays under $27,000 ?

Like I have stated, this is not my car, but a car I am listing for a very good customer.  I been around this car several times over the passing years and recently I went over it very thoroughly in order to list it. My opinions are true, professional, and unbiased.

Happy bidding!

Questions are always welcomed!

GM's MPG overstatement could affect 2 million vehicles

Tue, May 17 2016

Late last week, GM admitted that three of its large SUVs fuel economy window stickers did not match their actual efficiency ratings, and so the vehicles couldn't be sold. The stickers on the 2016 Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave said their ratings were one to two miles per gallon better than they should have been. Officially, the number of affected vehicles sits at about 60,000. But Consumer Reports makes a good point: what's up with all of the previous model year SUVs that are basically the same vehicle? To wit: the 2016 model year vehicles are not substantially different than the 2015 or the 2014, or even going all the way back to 2007. On the EPA's fuel economy website, all of these older models will "have better stated fuel economy numbers than the new vehicles in GM's dealerships," Consumer Reports noted. CR's best point, and the one that makes the 60,000 number potentially grow to 2 million if all of the vehicles built on this platform are affected, is that "[i]t seems unlikely that the company would change the powertrain on these carryover models so late in their model cycles in a way that would cause a dramatic, negative impact on fuel economy." GM says that earlier model year SUVs are not affected and the EPA did not respond to CR's question about the potential for more discrepancies. We've seen automakers reverse course before, so if GM has to come out with a mea culpa soon, don't be surprised. GM is rushing corrected stickers to dealers so that the SUVs can be sold again, but a fix for the already-sold vehicles could be trickier to solve. Impala SS vs. Marauder: Recalling Detroit’s muscle sedans

Thu, Apr 30 2020

Impala SS vs. Marauder — it was comparo that only really happened in theory. ChevyÂ’s muscle sedan ran from 1994-96, while MercuryÂ’s answer arrived in 2003 and only lasted until 2004. TheyÂ’re linked inextricably, as there were few options for powerful American sedans during that milquetoast period for enthusiasts. The debate was reignited recently among Autoblog editors when a pristine 1996 Chevy Impala SS with just 2,173 miles on the odometer hit the market on Bring a Trailer. Most of the staff favored the Impala for its sinister looks and said that it lived up to its billing as a legit muscle car. Nearly two-thirds of you agree. We ran an unscientific Twitter poll that generated 851 votes, 63.9 percent of which backed the Impala. Muscle sedans, take your pick: — Greg Migliore (@GregMigliore) April 14, 2020 Then and now enthusiasts felt the Impala was a more complete execution with guts. The Marauder, despite coming along later, felt more hacked together, according to prevailing sentiments. Why? On purpose and on paper theyÂ’re similar. The ImpalaÂ’s 5.7-liter LT1 V8 making 260 horsepower and 330 pound-feet of torque was impressive for a two-ton sedan in the mid-Â’90s. The Marauder was actually more powerful — its 4.6-liter V8 was rated at 302 hp and 318 lb-ft. The ImpalaÂ’s engine was also used in the C4 Corvette. The MarauderÂ’s mill was shared with the Mustang Mach 1. You can see why they resonated so deeply with Boomers longing for a bygone era and also captured the attention of coming-of-age Gen Xers. Car and DriverÂ’s staff gave the Marauder a lukewarm review back in ‘03, citing its solid handling and features, yet knocking the sedan for being slow off the line. In a Hemmings article appropriately called “Autopsy” from 2004, the ImpalaÂ’s stronger low-end torque and smooth shifting transmission earned praise, separating it from the more sluggish Mercury. All of this was captured in the carsÂ’ acceleration times, highlighting metrically the differences in their character. The Impala hit 60 miles per hour in 6.5 seconds, while the Marauder was a half-second slower, according to C/D testing. Other sites have them closer together, which reinforces the premise it really was the little things that separated these muscle cars. Both made the most of their genetics, riding on ancient platforms (FordÂ’s Panther and General MotorsÂ’ B-body) that preceded these cars by decades. Both had iconic names.
