Honesty being the best policy, here is whats wrong:
1. Carb (holly 4 barrel) needs rebuild or replacement. That is the only thing preventing it from being driven away. Had it examined by a professional mechanic who said that based on the description of the problem, it may need nothing more than new gaskets - but YOU'LL have to figure that out on your own. Engine was rebuilt about two years ago, and has been an old mans grocery store runner ever since, so it has low miles on a rebuild - thus the "1000 miles" on the mileage as stated above. Don't remember what the odometer says, but it HAS been driven less than 1000 since rebuild - Probably WAY less. Great engine in other words - but I don't have the paperwork or receipts on the work, and I am not mechanically savvy enough to be able to tell you much about it, so you need to use your expert mechanical skills to see the greatness of the engine. I know enough from driving it, it runs great when the carb works, and people who look at the engine seem somewhat impressed - I'm just too ignorant to know why... (honesty sucks)
2. Needs brakes. It does stop, but you can tell that it will need them soon.
3. Needs new tires soon as well. They hold air, but they are old.
4. Needs a new muffler unless you like the way it sounds. It is likely that the exhaust would need to be replaced all the way up to the exhaust manifold, and the exhaust manifold is in fact the only thing on the engine that makes the entire engine compartment look horrible. The compartment itself is nice (flat black) and clean, the engine looks great (could use a quick cleaning, especially on the chrome - in fact come to think of it, the whole car could use a wash - sorry, I'm lazy. If you want it washed, buy it and wash it yourself - you'll find its quite a pretty car). If it weren't for the exhaust manifold, it'd look friggen AWESOME.
5. Minor leak at the top right passenger side of the windshield, probably could use new window seals all the way around though.
Thats it. Fix those 5 things and its mechanically a new reliable car. Cosmetically, it is old paint, has a smudge here a chip there, and a couple small rust bubbles, no rust showing yet, but overall, it still shines in the sun and it still turns heads, in fact you will be lucky to not have to stop and thank people for compliments every 2 blocks. It is a GREAT looking car. Inside looks great as well. It is aged, but has newer carpet on the floor, door panels are in great shape, headliner is in great shape. The front bench seat has two large (and ugly) rips, one at each end, but the front backrest is in great condition. In the back seat, there are two small rips in the same places as the front, the the early stages of the condition of the front seat, but they are very small, and the back-backrest is in excellent condition. Found a company in California who will sell you the original style factory seat material as well as new seat foam for $500.00 but I got along fine with a big green sheet for a seat cover. All the lights and gauges work, including an installed temp/oil/batt gauge. (temp gauge died, $25.00 fix) When the car runs, (with a muffler) its as quiet as a mouse and rides smooth as hell. Transmission is fine by the way.

This is the most honest assessment of this car that I can give. It IS being sold as is, and while to the best of my knowledge the car is great. But I don't want to hear it if you buy it and a tire pops or something. It IS an old car, and things wear down, but I think with a little TLC it will run for years to come.
Should also mention, it seemed to run hot, considered installing a larger radiator, but instead installed two fans (seen in image that looks directly down on the radiator) and installed the switch on the dash.It worked great so never bothered switching to a larger radiator. They (the fans) run whether the car is on or off, which is a mixed blessing. Its great if your in a traffic jam and need a little extra wind, but if you forget to turn it off after you turn off the car, it will be happy to kill your battery - and speaking of batteries, it may need a new one. Its been sitting for a few months, and has died down. Also (just remembering) the bolt that holds the alternator on has snapped, and its being held on by a bracket over the top. It runs as is, but would strongly recommend replacing that bolt that too. I went to do it one day but bought the wrong size and never bothered again, because the carb started spraying gas out the sides (indicating possibly that all it needs is the gasket kit, but not sure) so I never bother to get a new bolt because I couldn't drive it anyway.
Also original hubcaps and accompanying rims are in the trunk.

Seeing the Detroit Auto Show via drone
Sun, Jan 18 2015Seeing the Chevrolet display at the Detroit Auto Show is worth doing this year, and not just because of the new Corvette Z06, Volt and Bolt concept. In order to attract the new kids, The Bowtie has gone what the old kids used to call "buck wild" with their show stand at Cobo Hall. A Corvette Z06, Trax, and Colorado are parked along a central aisle, called Mainstreet, at the end of which is a 20-foot-tall, 73-foot long transparent screen lording over the new Volt. Elsewhere are five more 20-foot-tall screens broadcasting nine stories today's Chevrolet wants to tell about its vehicles, from performance to belief in the power of play to its 4G LTE-equipped OnStar telematics service. Then there are the social media and virtual reality safety installations, the community presentations and more. Chevrolet flew a drone through the stand to show off what it's doing, which is has replaced eye-level video as the next best thing to being there. You can check it out in the video above.
More than half of Mazdas sold in 2018 are CX-5s, and other interesting sales facts
Mon, Jan 7 2019Last year was a seriously good year for carmakers. Overall, more vehicles were sold than in 2017, and the total number wasn't far off of the all-time record in 2016. Digging deeper into the numbers, you'll find some pretty usual stuff including the Ford F-Series still being the bestselling pickup truck in America, and a continued trend toward crossovers. But there are also some oddball factoids tucked in these sales reports, some that defy the trends, and some that are extremes of the public's buying preferences. We've compiled several interesting tidbits from last year's sales right here for your enjoyment. More than half of Mazda's sales were of CX-5s Yes, over half of all Mazda sales were of this one model. The company sold 300,325 cars in America last year, and 150,622 of them were CX-5 crossovers, or 50.1 percent. Just for emphasis, that means the other 49.8 percent of Mazda's sales were split among five other models, the Miata, 3, 6, CX-3 and CX-9. Breaking that down further, the second-best seller was the Mazda3 at 64,638, which isn't even half of the CX-5's sales. People are crazy for Mazda's middle crossover. Volkswagen actually sold more cars than crossovers It's clear that the crossover is the future king of car sales. For most mainstream brands, it already is. Chevy, Ford, Honda, Toyota, Subaru, Mazda and Nissan all sold more crossovers and SUVs than they did conventional sedans and hatchbacks. There are holdouts, though, and one of them is Volkswagen. At the end of 2018, the company sold 189,343 cars and 164,721 crossovers in the U.S. So that's one win for the classic car set, and it's justification for VW to maintain its car line for the foreseeable future. It's a bit of a hollow victory, though. Look closer and you'll see that car sales were down 28 percent from 2017, when VW sold 262,029 cars. Crossovers, on the other hand, jumped 112 percent from 2017 when 77,647 crossovers moved through U.S. dealers. So expect the tables to turn very soon. Mustang is still the muscle-car sales king, but Challenger is the only one to improve Once again, the Ford Mustang topped the muscle-car sales charts, beating out the Dodge Challenger and Chevy Camaro. Ford moved 75,842 of the ponies in 2018, while Dodge sold 66,716 Challengers for second place, and Chevy sold 50,963 Camaros to bring up the rear.
Fernando Alonso just misses qualifying for Indy 500 on first day
Sun, May 19 2019Former Formula One world champion Fernando Alonso will need a clutch run on Sunday to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 on May 26 after he failed to seal a guaranteed spot on Saturday. The Spaniard tried fives times to put his McLaren Racing Chevrolet in the top 30, but wound up one spot short. He can make the 33-car field only through a six-car shootout on Sunday that will determine the race's final three drivers. "We have another chance to be in the race," Alonso, who is seeking to make his second Indy 500 field, told IndyCar TV. The Spaniard twice got inside the top 30 but both times was bumped outside the mark, with JR Hildebrand and Graham Rahal the final two drivers to seal qualifying spots. Britain's Pippa Mann will be the only woman in the race, qualifying 30th in 227.244 mph. Race positions 10-30 were determined during the day-long qualifying with Saturday's nine fastest drivers set to return on Sunday to decide pole. Spencer Pigot, driving the Ed Carpenter Racing Chevrolet, led qualifying with a four-lap average of 230.083 mph. He was followed by 2018 winner Will Power of Australia (230.081) and Simon Pagenaud of France (229.854). The troubles for Alonso, whose top four-lap average was 227.224 mph, were exacerbated by a punctured tire in his first qualifying run. "That didn't help," Alonso told reporters. "But, obviously, our performance has been quite bad all week. Quite poor." The Spaniard crashed his Chevrolet in practice on Wednesday and missed nearly two full days of practice while a backup car was prepared. He returned on Friday. Alonso said he was worried the McLaren team was "not ready for the challenge." "We've been slow. You see Juncos Racing crashing yesterday and being ready at 6 o'clock. That's impressive," he said. "For us, we've been a little bit slow on everything." Alonso is bidding to join Graham Hill as the only drivers to achieve the 'Triple Crown of Motorsport' with an Indy 500 victory. He previously won the Monaco Grand Prix and Le Mans 24 Hours race. He also won two Formula One drivers' titles.
