2005 Chevrolet Express 3500 Ls Extended 15-passenger Van 3-door 6.0l on 2040-cars
San Francisco, California, United States
I have used this van for my hiking tour business since 2007. It has dependably taken customers from San Francisco to trailheads in Yosemite National Park and back again. I only did a handful of tours each summer, and I have another car for private use, so for most of the past 6 years the van has been sitting in the garage. I am selling because I have closed the business and no longer need a van.
California regulations regarding commercial passenger carrier vehicles are very strict, so this van has been maintained to a much higher standard than private cars. California weather is mild, so this van has not known the salty roads or harsh weather of snow country. The van is in excellent condition, with some wear and tear on the interior carpet and plastic interior walls, particularly in the rear cargo area. The interior plastic wheel hump on the right side has a dent. On the exterior, the running board, which serves as a step for entry into the rear passenger area, has a small dent. In order to maximize passenger space, I had a trailer package installed several years ago so that I could pull a cargo trailer. If less passenger seating or more interior cargo space is needed, the passenger seats are simple to remove and to re-insert. The layout of the seating is 1 driver, 1 front passenger, 3 rows of 3 seats, and 1 rear row of 4 seats, for a total of 15 seats including the driver. Removing the rear row converts the van easily to seating and ample cargo space for 11 people. The van is currently located in San Francisco, CA. I am willing to deliver it within 100 miles, but beyond that I will let you handle it. Thanks! |

This 450-hp electric Lotus Evora is powered by Tesla and Chevrolet
Tue, May 9 2017When someone mentions an electric Lotus, the first thing that comes to mind is the Tesla Roadster, the California-based automaker's first vehicle. That car started life as an Elise before being heavily massaged and adapted by Tesla's engineers. In a similar spirit, the people at Onpoint Dyno are close to finishing Blue Lightning, a track-ready all-electric Lotus Evora. Blue Lightning uses a Tesla drive unit and a Chevrolet Volt battery pack, both mounted in the middle in place of the Evora's 3.5-liter Toyota V6. It's putting down about 450 horsepower at the wheels. The car was built for time attack sessions, so power is fed through custom forged wheels and super sticky Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires, the same ones found on the last Chevrolet Camaro Z/28. There is a custom digital instrument cluster in place of the Lotus gauges. There's also a regen paddle on the left side of the steering wheel. With a full charge, Blue Lighting should go about 120 miles. While the car runs under its own power, it's only about 90 percent complete. It has no power steering, no firewall in between the seats and the motor and battery pack, no A/C, and a large hole where the shift lever used to be. Other final touches include fine-tuning the brakes and suspension. There is also a custom rear bumper coming that should make it look more like the new Lotus Evora 400. Onpoint Dyno expects the car to hit the track in the next month or so. Related Video:
GM patent reveals new two-stage turbocharger
Fri, Jun 24 2016Modern turbochargers may be some of the best ever made, but performance is something that engineers are always trying to improve. According to GM Inside News, General Motors (GM) is hoping to alleviate some of the negative aspects of a two-stage turbocharger setup with a newly-patented design. The patent, that was filed on May 19, 2016, reveals a clever bypass system that allows the engine, a four-cylinder unit, to optimize both the low-pressure and high-pressure inlets for its respective functions. According to the filing, a conventional two-stage turbocharger setup is engineered to allow both turbines to operate simultaneously at low and mid engine speeds. At high engine speeds, only the low-pressure turbine works. The setup can't isolate either the low or high pressure side, which can impair low-end performance. GM's new two-stage turbocharger setup looks to eliminate this by linking the high-pressure turbo to the exhaust manifold through the high-pressure inlet duct. The low-pressure turbo is attached to the high-pressure turbo by a low-pressure inlet duct, which is linked to a connecting channel. A single actuator that is housed in the exhaust manifold creates a bypass that can opens the high-pressure inlet or close the connecting channel. Depending on what the engine load and speed is, the ECU guides the actuator—a single rotating spindle with discs corresponding to flanges on the high and low pressure sides—to isolate one of the two turbos. Isolating the turbos allow the respective inlets to be engineered for the best possible fluid dynamic performance. The setup should increase performance and decrease lag. There's no word on what car this setup will make an appearance on, but it will most likely be used in premium vehicles before trickling down to the rest of GM's vehicles.
