Here is a little bit of info on the car. I'll try to start from the beginning and go from there. The body is a 1981 El Camino sitting on an original El Camino frame. The frame it self has been stripped and re-coated. The floor pans have also been stripped and re painted as well. The pans are as solid as they come and no rust. It has a aftermarket ford 9" rear end housing with the proper mounts to attach to the frame of the car (not a hack job). I am unsure of the gear in the rear end, but I would guess it to be somewhere between 3.73 and 4.11. It runs around 2500 rpm cruising down the road at 60mph. The trans is a Coan racing 350 turbo trans with a shift kit. It also has and aftermarket deep trans pan with a drain plug. The engine that is currently in it is a rebuilt SBC V8. I am unsure if it is a 305 or a 350. I bought the car with it already installed, so I am unsure as to the specifics on the engine. I do know that is has an edlebrock carb, weiand intake, mild cam, and headers. Its all kept cool with a really nice aluminum radiator. The car also has a really nice NOS nitrous kit. I have never sprayed it, but I know that it has a 150 shot and its a wet kit.

The body is in great shape with no rust, dents, ect. It is currently painted flat black, which is probably the one thing that I would change on this car. It looks ok, but just not my style. The hood is a fiberglass cowl hood, and is held down with hood pins. The bed has been rhino lined, and has a 10 gallon fuel cell mounted in it.

The interior has racing buckets with 5 point harnesses that are not currently installed. The carpet is new, and it has all aftermarket gauges that need to be wired, minus the tach and temp guage. The nitrous bottle is mounted between the buckets. The dash does have a small crack near the middle, but nothing major.

Overall, around 12000 was invested in this car. I bought it as it is and was give numerous receipts to show some of the work. It was built to be a pro street, but I believe it is more of a driver with its current engine. However, All of the parts used were selected with the drag strip in mind, if that's what your looking for.

I live in Valparaiso, Indiana and keep the car stored in my garage. You are free to come take a look at it if you would like, and please feel free to ask questions, as I'm sure that I have forgotten a lot. I am available in the evenings everyday except Tuesdays and Thursdays.

2018 Autoblog Technology of the Year finalists

Wed, Jan 10 2018

After months of prepping and several days of testing, we narrowed the field for Autoblog's 2018 Tech of the Year award to the Nissan Rogue with ProPilot Assist semi-autonomous driving system, the Lexus LC 500h and its new hybrid powertrain, and the Chevy Colorado ZR2 and its trick Multimatic spool-valve off-road shocks. Three very different cars with very different technologies duking it out for the award. Look for news of our winner at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. We hand out this award every year to the technology or feature that we feel moves the bar forward for the automotive industry. Read more here on how our testing process works. We discuss, debate and count up score sheets, judging each vehicle and technology on a few different criteria. Is its purpose noteworthy? Does it work well? Does it advance the industry? The Nissan Rogue with ProPilot Assist was actually a prototype, as the technology will first debut in the 2018 Nissan Leaf. Still, we're here to test the tech and not the car. ProPilot Assist combines adaptive cruise control system combined with lane-keeping assistance. The system uses sonar, radar and a number of cameras for some light semi-autonomous driving and enhanced safety. While these systems aren't new individually, Nissan's system is affordable, intuitive, and coming to a mainstream product — democratizing the tech in a novel way, if you will. That's why it's here. The Lexus LC 500h uses a new powertrain that Lexus has dubbed the Multi-Stage Hybrid System. Basically it combines two types of transmissions — a CVT and a four-speed automatic — in a single unit mated to a naturally aspirated V6. That's complex and unorthodox technology, and Lexus engineered it to give drivers the efficiency of a CVT without sacrificing driving enjoyment. The package is subtle, working in the background to create a nearly seamless driving experience. It's engaging in a way most other hybrids can only dream of. The fact that it's wrapped in such gorgeous sheetmetal only makes things better. The Multimatic spool valve shocks in the Chevy Colorado ZR2 might seem low-tech compared to ProPilot Assist and the Lexus Multi-Stage Hybrid, but they represent a completely novel application of a technology that several years ago was so expensive that it was reserved for top-tier race cars. Like the LC 500h, these shocks really change your perception of how a vehicle like this should drive.

GM, UAW poaching Nissan workers in Tennessee

Tue, Sep 8 2015

General Motors and the United Auto Workers are going on a recruitment drive at the Spring Hill factory in Tennessee, and they're hoping to poach some skilled workers from Nissan's nearby plant in Smyrna, TN. The General and the union even bought a billboard advertising for industrial electricians near the Japanese automaker's facility, according to the Daily News Journal. The reason for the billboard was simple. "GM was short of electricians," said Tim Stannard, the president of the UAW local at Spring Hill, to the Daily News Journal. The factory currently builds the Chevrolet Equinox but has a contract to assemble the next generation of Ecotec engines and the Cadillac XT5, which replaces the SRX. Thanks to the $185-million deal, employment there is expected to double by May 2016, according to Stannard, with roughly 1,800 additional union jobs. Beyond just several billboards, GM has job postings online for the Spring Hill plant looking for workers with specific skills. There has already been some interest in the positions among Nissan employees, Stannard indicated. According to a recent study by the Center for Automotive Research, the average GM worker currently makes $58 an hour, including benefits. Comparatively, Nissan pays an average of $42 an hour with benefits. The General's number could change in the coming weeks because its contract with the UAW is about to expire, and higher wages are among the major negotiating points.

Weekly Recap: Autonomous driving goes commercial in Nevada

Sat, May 9 2015

Nevada granted Daimler Trucks North America the first license to run an autonomous commercial vehicle on public roads in the United States Tuesday, marking another milestone in the technology's rapid advancement. Gov. Brian Sandoval and Daimler truck chief Wolfgang Bernhard promptly used the license to lap Highway 15 near Las Vegas in a newly revealed Freightliner Inspiration Truck. It was a clear signal that autonomous driving is big-rig reality, though it's still a long way from widespread use. Nevada certified two of Daimler's Freightliner Inspiration Trucks, which use the company's Highway Pilot system with a stereo camera, radar, and lane-keeping collision-prevention features to regulate the brakes and steering. The radar component has a long-range sensor that can cover 820 feet at an 18-degree angle and a shorter-range unit that stretches 230 feet at a 130-degree angle. The Inspiration trucks are based on the existing Freightliner Cascadia Evolution model used on US roads. In addition to the autonomous technologies, it also has futuristic design cues, including blue lighting in the front and a new hood and grille. While there are only two Freightliner Inspiration trucks in existence, Daimler expects to bring the Highway Pilot system into mass-produced big rigs by 2025, in time to capitalize on the market's predicted growth. The German truckmaker predicts the global hauling market will triple by 2050, and the United States will be a key part of that growth. Trucks carry 69.1 percent the nation's domestic freight tonnage and hauled 9.7 billion tons of freight in 2013, according to the American Trucking Association. Daimler expects autonomous driving to augment this growth, and perhaps evolve the role of the truck driver. Still, the company points out autonomous tech is not meant to replace drivers, but to assist them and relieve fatigue and monotony on long hauls. The driver has to stay in control for passing, in city traffic, and when hooking up the trailer. The company said autonomous driving also offers the potential for improved fuel economy – tests showed a five-percent gain – and lower maintenance costs. Daimler also said the technology could reduce congestion on the road. Much of this is attributable to the constant flow of traffic, which is aided by autonomous driving. While the benefits are becoming increasingly apparent, autonomous technology is still met with skepticism.
