1978 Chevrolet El Camino SS

GM Crate 350 V-8, Turbo 350 w/ shift kit - low mileage, very CLEAN!

Here is a restored classic 1978 Chevrolet El Camino SS. Color is black with all burgundy interior. The exterior is in excellent condition both body and paint. Everything is uniform, straight, rust free, and it is an original California car. The 9 year old paint has plenty of shine and is always kept very clean.  Some nice exterior features include: rear tinted window, brand new glass front windshield, a custom racing style hood with scoop, an original button snap firm fitting bed cover in excellent condition, beautiful original chrome bumpers and front grille, original California license plate, dual exhaust, and much more! Comes with a custom California car cover that is hardly ever used and like new. The tires are fairly new with plenty of tread, Hankook Ventus Sport tires, sizes P275/35/R20’s in the rear and P235/40/R18’s in the front. The rims are 18” and 20” Coys C5’s thrust style 5-spoke chrome wheels in absolute excellent condition. Overall, the exterior has been executed nicely and is truly appealing. It is enjoyed more as a cruiser and is 100% garaged all the time.

The engine is a brand new crate general motors 350 V8 (330 HP), with a new turbo 350 3 speed automatic transmission with turbo 350 shift kit with approx. 30K miles. The engine and everything on the drive train was installed and replaced in September of 2004. It has been completely redone top to bottom - inside and out, with plenty of upgraded components and plenty attention to detail throughout. It has power steering, power brakes, brand new a/c, dual Flowmaster exhaust, and much more! The engine is in absolute excellent running condition overall. Owned by 1 owner since 82’ whom has meticulously taken care of this hot rod the way all should be maintained. An entire life history of all records, receipts, paperwork, original manuals and booklets, a clean and clear title, etc… are all on hand for verification.

The burgundy interior was redone awhile back and has been kept original, stock, and clean. The seats, door panels, dash, carpet, headliner, etc.. are all in excellent shape and looks great. Everything inside including dash cluster works and functions as it should. It has power windows, power mirrors, power locks, and new a/c. Added was a GT style steering wheel and an Alpine am/fm/mp3/cd player with speakers. Everything in the interior is nicely done.

Overall, this Chevy has been tastefully restored and cared for throughout. It is an ideal classic 1978 Chevrolet El Camino SS to own.

GM plans to restart production in Mexico on May 20

Mon, May 18 2020

MEXICO CITY — General Motors is tentatively planning to restart operations at its auto assembly plant in the Mexican city of Silao on May 20, according to a message to workers seen by Reuters on Sunday, as the car industry prepares to exit the coronavirus lockdown. Separately, the president of GM's Mexican unit advised suppliers to prepare to resume operations. “We are now beginning a new phase given the Mexican governmentÂ’s official announcement earlier this week to consider the transportation manufacturing industry as essential for the countryÂ’s economy,” Francisco Garza, president ofGeneral Motors de Mexico, wrote in an email to suppliers dated on Friday that was viewed by Reuters. The reopening of the plant  in Silao would be a positive signal for the auto sector in North America, whose supply lines are highly interconnected between the United States, Mexico and Canada. The plant in the central state of Guanajuato has been idled for weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak. Workers had previously been told to plan to return to their jobs on May 18. A GM spokeswoman said the company could not confirm when it would restart operations at any of its facilities in Mexico because it is awaiting more guidance from the government. The message to the plant's workers came after the government on Friday clarified when the industry could begin easing restrictions imposed because of the health emergency. On Wednesday, the government said automakers could start going back into production from May 18. It then withdrew that advice and suggested the new start date would be June 1. Finally it indicated the sector, which forms the backbone of Mexican manufacturing, could begin operating as soon as next week if companies had the required safety measures in place. U.S. officials and its auto industry have pressed Mexico's government to get its factories open again because American operations depend heavily on parts from south of the border. However, some politicians are wary of opening too fast. Mexico registered its first case of coronavirus weeks after the United States and Canada and the toll of daily infections and deaths in the country reached new peaks over the past few days. The Silao production facility, which makes highly profitable pickup trucks for GM, is one of the biggest automotive plants in Guanajuato, a major Mexican carmaking state. Related Video:

Jay Leno gets pulled over while roaring in a Corvette Z06 convertible

Tue, Jan 6 2015

No one is above the law, even if that person is a certain silver-haired auto enthusiast with a popular weekly video series about the cars in his garage. This week, Jay Leno experiences the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Z06, but he also gets to have a meeting with some of California's Finest immediately after a high-speed blast. As opposed to the full-bore Z06 coupe with the seven-speed manual, Leno gets behind the wheel of the slightly heavier convertible version with the eight-speed auto. Being a droptop doesn't bother him too much, but Leno makes it obvious he wishes that he could be shifting for himself. Even if the auto is technically quicker, Leno says that swapping gears gives him something to do while driving. Of course, one of the major advantages of the convertible is the ability to listen to the Z06's thumping V8 unimpeded. With 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque from 6.2-liters of supercharged muscle, it already puts down impressive numbers, but the sound might just be the best part of all. Around town, the 'Vette is quiet enough to easily blend in with the rest of traffic. However, tip the throttle down and the valves in the exhaust open up to turn the engine into roaring monster. Be careful where you make this thing howl, though, because it's pretty easy for the police to take notice. The host finds that out the hard way in this week's episode of Jay Leno's Garage.
