I own a restoration shop and this is a car I built twelve years ago and I am selling for my customer.  When we got the car we had it media blasted.  There was not a bit of rust as it has been a California car all its life.  My customer is the third owner and has it for 17 years.  Overall it is almost as nice as when we built it is 2002.  It has 17,600 miles on it since then.  We installed all the SS options as the car was a standard Chevrolet El Camino.  I will detail the car below.....

Engine.. It is a Chevrolet crate motor.  454 roller with a 1000 cfm fuel injection from Holly.  Sanderson coated cast iron headers through a 2 1/2 inch exhaust.  HEI ignition and serpentine belt system.  The car has lots of power and runs great but the injection system is touchy at idle. I would replace it with a Holly 750 carburetor.  I think it would run smoother and have a better idle.  It does not smoke or leak and has never been abused.  This was a brand new Generation VI 425 horse motor.

Transmission.. It was a pro built 700 R4 with a 1800 rpm stall converter.  Built to stand up to 500 horsepower.  It has always worked perfectly.  Shifts hard and tight.

Rear end is a 3.73 12 bolt positraction.  It was completely gone through at the time of the build.

Body.. As I said earlier, it has always been in California so when we stripped it to bare metal there were some minor dents and dings to repair but no rust.  It was painted with two stage Dupont.  Base coat and clear coat.  It still shines great and other than a couple of very minor scratches still looks as good as it did when we built it twelve years ago.  The inner fender wells and core support were powder coated.

Interior.. It is showing the usual wear on the seats and the carpeting is a little faded but everything else is real nice.  Door panels, headliner, dash are great.  It was a factory A/C  and we added the tilt wheel, rally gauges and tachometer power windows and soft ray tinted glass along with the SS bucket seats and console.

Overall a real nice, clean driver. With the 3.73 rear end and overdrive transmission the car is fast and still cruises beautifully down the highway.  At 75 mph the rpm is about 2100. Nice. The fit and finish of the body is great. No rattles and everything fits well.  All the chrome was new when the car was built and still looks great.  New tires and the vinyl top were new last year.  All the suspension was rebuilt in 2002. Ball joints and control arm bushings, tie rods, everything.  It drives great.

If want to see the car I am about 15 miles east of Sacramento off HWY 80.  If you have any questions or need more photos, please call Bruce weekdays at 916-652-6852. Thank you.

GM isn't liable for punitive damages in ignition switch cases

Wed, Nov 20 2019

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court said General Motors is not liable for punitive damages over accidents that occurred after its 2009 bankruptcy and involved vehicles it produced earlier, including vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said on Tuesday that the automaker did not agree to contractually assume liability for punitive damages as part of its federally-backed Chapter 11 reorganization. GM filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, and its best assets were transferred to a new Detroit-based company with the same name. The other assets and many liabilities stayed with "Old GM," which is also known as Motors Liquidation Co. Tuesday's 3-0 decision may help GM reduce its ultimate exposure in nationwide litigation over defective ignition switches in several Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn models. It is also a defeat for drivers involved in post-bankruptcy accidents, including those who collided with older GM vehicles driven by others, as well as their law firms. The ignition switch defect could cause engine stalls and keep airbags from deploying, and has been linked to 124 deaths. A lawyer for the drivers and their law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. GM had no comment. Circuit Judge Dennis Jacobs said GM's agreement to acquire assets "free and clear" of most liabilities excused it from punitive damages claims for Old GM's conduct. He also noted that the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy concluded that the new company could not be liable for claims that the "deeply insolvent" Old GM would never have paid. The decision upheld a May 2018 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan, who oversees the ignition switch litigation. Drivers have sought a variety of damages in that litigation, including for declining resale values. GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles since 2014 over ignition switch problems. It has also paid more than $2.6 billion in related penalties and settlements, including $900 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice criminal case. The case is In re: Motors Liquidation Co, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 18-1940. Government/Legal Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn Safety gm ignition switch

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.

Former Fisker CEO has some advice for Tesla Motors

Wed, Oct 22 2014

Former Fisker Automotive CEO and ex-Chevrolet Volt vehicle-line director Tony Posawatz has some words of caution for Tesla Motors. The long-time automaker executive questions the California automaker's long-term viability – and gives some praise – in a talk with Benzinga, which you can listen to below. While the all-wheel-drive D that Tesla unveiled earlier this month in Southern California wowed a packed crowd, Posawatz (starting at around minute 4:45 in the interview) says Tesla would've been better off taking the resources it expended toward that Model S upgrade and directed them towards speeding up the development of a more affordable plug-in. Perhaps a number of investors agreed, since the company's stock fell the day after the D was announced. Posawatz says Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of ZEV credits. Posawatz also says that Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of zero-emissions vehicle credits in California for its earnings and questions whether the automaker will ever work at a large enough scale to sufficiently drive down costs and make consistent profits. Tesla CEO Elon Musk would take issue with this characterization. Posawatz first made his mark in the plug-in vehicle world when he was the vehicle-line director at General Motors for the Volt extended-range plug-in from 2006 to 2012. Later that year, he joined extended-range plug-in maker Fisker Automotive as its CEO, though quit that job during the summer of 2013 as the company was descending into insolvency. He joined the Electrification Coalition this past March. News Source: Benzinga Green Chevrolet Fisker Tesla Electric PHEV Tony Posawatz
