Please read the entire description before bidding to see what condition she is currently in. I'm offering up one of my prized cars which unfortunately suffered some damage due to an electrical short that I just don't have the time to fix. It ran awesome prior to the damage so it would be a shame to let it linger in the back of my garage when everything mechanically is still so fresh and the motor is clean and strong. It needs to be fixed in the near future and put back on the road. The last 2 photos show the car before the damage with the hardtop on it so you can see what the hardtop looks like and the other shows the engine before the incident so you can see how nice and correct it was. Here's the story of my ownership and the condition she's currently in . For information on damage please read below! How it was!!!!!!! -------------- Since I can recall a C1 Corvette was on my list of cars to have some day. Well not too long ago I was in the position to finally make that happen. I scoured the country for months and eventually weeded out all the freshly restored incorrect cars ending up finding this car in Washington State. It was on the extreme top end / above my budget but the fact that it was an original matching numbers fuelie in no less than my favorite color combination I just had to make it happen. Remember in the end the top performance option for 1960 Corvettes was the 290 HP Fuel injection option. It doesn't get any better. Add to that the 4 speed manual gearbox, Factory soft top delete (yes it was ordered that way) and Metallic brake option with no other option except radio and one would think it was ordered for race duty, No sunvisors, Courtesy lights etc. Just basically a stripped down factory race car.. A 4 Barrel or dual 4 Barrel car will never be a Fuelie. Buy the best most original car you can. I had the car thoroughly inspected and it all checked out. Everything is correct to the car according to the inspection. I bought her sight unseen and was very pleased when it arrived via enclosed carrier less than 1 month later. The following description is the condition she was in before the Short. The body is very straight with very good panel fit and gaps. The paint is very glassy but has some typical corvette stress cracks. Some small stone chips as as one would expect with a single 35 year old paint job. There is some small checking or chicken feet starting in the decklid and the 2 cat walks between the tail lights and deck lid. It looks to have been a very good paint job with all trim except the door handles and window trim off for it. It still has the original paint in the door jambs and inside on the dash surfaces. The dash paint is in very good condition with a few chips. Inside it was treated to a new set of correct seat covers and seat belts by the previous owner. (original belts included) In the photos I have from a previous inspection before they were done. The seats looked to have been in great shape but the foam was failing. I believe that's why they reupholstered them. She still has her original Dash pad and door panels. All in great shape especially considering their age. (I'm assuming the carpet must have been replaced but looks correct for the car. There is some wear by the accelerator pedal though so who knows. Very clean gauges with correct high redline Tachometer. The original Wonderbar radio works as does the clock. No other options. If it was a radio delete car I would swear it was ordered to be a race car. The story I was told is it was ordered by a gentleman to be his daily driver but the original owner was given a company car less than one year after buying it so it was repurposed for weekend touring. Why it was ordered as a soft top delete is anyone's guess. The car spent most of it's life in Nevada and the Chassis shows that. Most of it has never been painted and shows very little if any surface rust. A couple of spots were sprayed black at some point but they weren't even the areas prone to rust. Most of what you see in the photos is original finish/ patina. In the engine bay she is very correct. It has correct Delco Cap and Packard wires, AC plugs etc. About the only incorrect thing i could find is an incorrect Battery. Being it's so buried I wasn't worried about installing a vintage looking one. It has all the correct Fuelie parts. Including the 320 Smooth top injection unit which has been rebuilt by the previous owner, Correct Aluminum radiator (which also appears to have been out and cleaned), Clutch Fan, Air Cleaner assembly, Ignition Shielding, 6 quart baffled trap door oil pan. I pulled a valve cover and the oil pan when I got the car to know what the motor was like before changing the oil. It was spotless inside and appears to have a .020 overbore with pistons dated 1978 so it was probably rebuilt about 1979 when the 2nd owner added it to his Corvette Collection. (he owned it for about 25 years) I believe that's when the car was repainted as well. I believe it has about 7500 miles on the rebuild from the paperwork I have that came with the car. The past owner installed new radial tires, Delco Shocks, Organic brake shoes (the original metallic ones are included with the car) A complete correct aluminized offroad exhaust system (sounds great) Correct AC Fuel Pump, New gas tank and Lines. (probably insurance to make sure the Fuel injection unit stayed clean), New clutch and Linkage. Also noted in the paperwork was a full set of new T3 headlight bulbs, Correct replacement Guide Mirror, Battery cover, new battery leads, Air vent hose, Air Cleaner element, Correct bump style Wiper blades Most of the chrome is in very nice shape either being super nice original pieces or NOS parts possibly used when the car was repainted. It just seems to be too nice to be original. The grille, Bumpers, Headlight bezels, Pretty much all the exterior chrome is in very good condition. The only pitting is a few random pimples on some of the grille teeth, maybe a couple on a few of the spears. The door posts are the only items really pitted on the car. Some of the interior chrome is basically like new and some of it has some pimples. Nothing terrible. The gauge bezels are in very good shape. The steering wheel has a couple of stress cracks. The hardtop has all it's original dated plexiglass in great shape. It also appears to have new weatherstrip. There is a line on the tonneau from a point when the weatherstrip wasn't new. The original windshield has a few scratches and some stone pits in it. Not terrible but noticeable. It runs and drives fantastic. Just as I would expect a 60 Corvette to run. Lots of acceleration, idles well. Runs about 170-180 degrees no matter the day. Carries 45 lbs oil pressure hot, It tracks very well and stops great. I own a few old cars and have spent thousands of dollars on parts doing the work myself to get my cars to be reliable and run well not just look pretty. This is one of the few I've had to do very little to. It really is that good. When I got it I really looked things over. I was amazed how untouched things like the wiring harness were. Not only was it unscathed it is in wonderful condition. Nothing cut or hacked and the wires in great condition. It would probably be a survivor if it hadn't been repainted. If you want a nice but not perfect so you will never drive it Fuelie that's a tad different (soft top delete) then this may just be the car you are looking for. Not Perfect but really much better and it would be relinquished to trailer/show duty. Do you really want to collect trophies after baking in the hot sun all day or do you want to go eat up an old back road on an early evening summer's day. My other Old cars are all cruiser's. This is my only performance car. It's the one car I hope to not get behind someone in when there is no passing. It's fun to just listen to the pipes. She cruises at 60 in 3rd gear at 4000 RPM. No problem with 75 in 4th. That will run about 4,000 as well. She's Really a great road car. I hate to sell it but that's life. Don't miss out and talk about the one you should have bought. Don't buy a freshly painted/ restored (restamped) car. Who know's what that will look like in a year or 2. Buy an older refurbished car with enough originality to transport you back in time. It really feels like stepping back 50 years when you get in the driver's seat. How it is NOW!!!!!!!!----------- ****Fast Forward to July 6th of this year when I decided to take it for a spin on a beautiful Sunday Afternoon. Right after starting it and backing it out of the garage smoke started to come out from under the hood. I shut it down and with the help of a couple of fire extinguishers provided by my Neighbor and wife as well as water from my Neighbors hose we were able to keep the damage limited until the fire department, less than a mile away, showed up within minutes and was able to extinguish it completely. They did a wonderful job and really did no damage to the car. I want to commend them for their efforts and care handling the situation. Fortunately since it happened right at my home garage (it was never towed anywhere or left outside) I immediately set about cleaning the car to preserve it as much as possible including removing the seats and belts and cleaning them, then drying them in the sun as well as cleaning all the chrome and carpets. Neutralizing the foam used on the car to ensure nothing would corrode. All my efforts were for immediate preservation with the intent of repairing the car and minimizing the damage. The engine was cold still when the incident happened as was the radiator as it had only been running maybe 2 minutes tops so I'm sure there is no damage to the radiator or engine internally. It turns over fine and being it is fuel injected the plenum kept anything sprayed under the hood from entering it. The oil is right at the full mark where it was before I started it. The engine ran awesome and will again with a full tuneup and repair of the fuel injection unit to replace damaged parts. Most notable the Secondary pressure Pump. You will also want to rebuild the starter and Generator as they are properly date coded for the car. Rebuilding these is pretty cheap! I sprayed a product called Fluid film on all metal surfaces that had any signs of damage and pretty much everything under the hood just to be sure nothing corroded. It's an anti corrosion product that cleans off easily with a degreaser. (again the goal was immediate preservation) The car was back in my Garage before dark where it has remained. The hardtop was not on it which was great as it was easier to get to everything. That's still on the stand in the garage and doesn't need anything. There is no damage to the seats or door panels The dash even looks wonderful. She has so much going for her and probably the lightest fire damaged Corvette you will ever find. It looks like a pretty easy project to me that some sweat and a few deals on parts, you will have an awesome Matching numbers top of the line fuel injected Corvette with lots of positive equity and a proportionally very low out of pocket expense to repair when compared to most other project cars. See what restored and incorrect ones sell for. Look what a barn find rusted chassis, junk body, pitted chrome non matching numbers basket case sells for. Don't miss out. This may be the only chance you get to buy a project that doesn't need it all. One you may even be able to be driving before snow flies this winter. I do have a clear registration in my name in hand for the future buyer. She has clear Non Branded Salvage free paperwork, just like a car that was never damaged. I strongly encourage a personal inspection so you can determine exactly what will need replacing and what is good to go. Especially because the car received some damage She is sold as is where is with no Warranty expressed or implied. A $1000 pay pal deposit is required within 24 hours of auctions end. GM patent reveals new two-stage turbocharger
Fri, Jun 24 2016Modern turbochargers may be some of the best ever made, but performance is something that engineers are always trying to improve. According to GM Inside News, General Motors (GM) is hoping to alleviate some of the negative aspects of a two-stage turbocharger setup with a newly-patented design. The patent, that was filed on May 19, 2016, reveals a clever bypass system that allows the engine, a four-cylinder unit, to optimize both the low-pressure and high-pressure inlets for its respective functions. According to the filing, a conventional two-stage turbocharger setup is engineered to allow both turbines to operate simultaneously at low and mid engine speeds. At high engine speeds, only the low-pressure turbine works. The setup can't isolate either the low or high pressure side, which can impair low-end performance. GM's new two-stage turbocharger setup looks to eliminate this by linking the high-pressure turbo to the exhaust manifold through the high-pressure inlet duct. The low-pressure turbo is attached to the high-pressure turbo by a low-pressure inlet duct, which is linked to a connecting channel. A single actuator that is housed in the exhaust manifold creates a bypass that can opens the high-pressure inlet or close the connecting channel. Depending on what the engine load and speed is, the ECU guides the actuator—a single rotating spindle with discs corresponding to flanges on the high and low pressure sides—to isolate one of the two turbos. Isolating the turbos allow the respective inlets to be engineered for the best possible fluid dynamic performance. The setup should increase performance and decrease lag. There's no word on what car this setup will make an appearance on, but it will most likely be used in premium vehicles before trickling down to the rest of GM's vehicles. Callaway debuts its new C7 Stingray at National Corvette Museum
Fri, 02 May 2014Callaway showed off its first tuned version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the National Corvette Museum last week, giving the rampant enthusiasts of America's sports car a look at the roughly 620-horsepower, supercharged rocket.
Unlike the Corvette SC610 we showed you back in January, this Stingray packs a fair bit more oomph. Horsepower is only up ten ponies, but torque has jumped from 556 pound-feet to "at least" 600 pound-feet. Neither horsepower nor torque is official quite yet, although Callaway is expecting to know just what its creation can do once testing and validation is completed later this month.
The 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 now boasts a new, three-element intercooler, which Callaway claims only allowed the inlet air temperature to increase by ten degrees Fahrenheit during dyno runs. Previous designs saw a 35-degree-Fahrenheit jump. The exhaust system has also been fettled with, and now is even less restrictive.
Chevrolet only automaker to win EPA's 2015 Climate Leadership Awards
Fri, Feb 27 2015Chevrolet was the only automaker to be on the list of entities for the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Climate Leadership Awards. Of course, the accolades had nothing to do with any vehicle's tailpipe emissions, General Motors can still be proud. The automaker is engaging in what it calls the Chevrolet Clean Energy Campus Campaign. Chevy is working with the US Green Building Council, among other groups, to find ways for buildings in primary and secondary schools as well as college campuses to reduce their collective carbon footprint via better design. The EPA pointed out the "carbon performance methodologies" used by Chevrolet to run the program and spur lower emissions from its campus partners. The effort is part of Chevrolet's broader goal to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions by as many as 8 million metric tons of CO2. And it's going to take more than bunch of plug-in Volt and Spark EVs to do that. Other entities feted by the EPA include UPS, Bank of America, the cities of San Francisco and Oakland, Clorox and Tiffany & Co. Yes, Tiffany.
