This auction is for a true survivor. The odometer only shows 56,000 miles and I believe this to be accurate by the condition of the car. It's a 64 Spyder and belongs to the neighbors of a friend of mine and they ask me to list it for them. The owner has recently had open heart surgery and feels it is time to part with the car. It's an outstanding example of a true survivor.

As far as I can tell the only restoration done to the car was a repaint. even though it was repainted I couldn't find any spots that either any dents or rust were repaired. There is currently a scratch on the left rear quarter panel about 6" below the belt line and another towards the rear upper part of the quarter.. This doesn't appear to be any metal damage but the paint should be redone in this area.I tried to get some decent pictures of the undercarriage to show any rust through but I couldn't find any. The bottom of the doors are very solid with only some light surface rust and paint flaking. The only rust I saw was inside the trunk area where the inner fender meets the floor pan. And this shows only as swelling in the seem area about 12" long. No holes at all.

The interior looks untouched as well as the undercarriage. The seats are in good condition for their age with no rips that I could see. The door panels could use some work as well as the drivers side arm rest. The carpet does show some wear but it is still intact and very useable. The top appears to have been replaced at some time and it is currently in nice shape with no rips. It also goes up and down very smoothly with no issues. There is also a cover to snap over the top when it is in the down position. I didn't try to install it at the time I looked at the car. All the gauges are in nice shape and work well except for the gas gauge which the owner says isn't reading correctly. The factory tach works smoothly. It has a radio but I didn't think to try it to see if it also works.

The engine runs and sounds great. The owner did have some carb work done and whom ever did the work got it right. The car runs out great and It will sit and idle without loading up for as long as you would ever need it too. The clutch and transmission works equally as well. The clutch operates very smoothly either pulling out or cruising down the road.

This car in the condition it is in is a rare find. It is a great example of a pretty well all original Corvair Spyder convertible. It still has all 4 of it's original Spyder hubcaps. It would make a wonderful driver for those Sunday drives with the top down.

As always please if you have any questions do not hesitate to call and ask. If I do not have an answer I will do my best to find out and get back to you.

How easy is it to rebuild a Chevy small block V8?

Sat, Mar 21 2015

Chevrolet's famous small block V8 stands as one of the workhorse engines in American auto history, with its variants going into vehicles from hot rods to pickup trucks. But do you know that you can fully disassemble and completely restore one of these mills in just under four minutes? Well, as long as there's some assistance from time-lapse photography, that is. Hagerty created this short clip showing a dirt-covered small block turning from a frog into a prince. Thankfully, the time-lapse doesn't speed the process up too much, and it's still easy to see how all of the principal parts fit together. With all sorts of sensors and software helping to drive the modern automobile, viewing the internal combustion engine in its purely mechanical form is still fascinating. Related Video:

GM adds 1,200 jobs at Detroit-Hamtramck plant

Thu, Oct 22 2015

General Motors is making a big move at its Hamtramck, MI, factory, announcing it will add a second shift and hire over 1,200 workers within the next several months. It's expected that by early 2016, the factory will employ over 2,800 workers to build the Chevrolet Volt, Impala, Malibu, Cadillac ELR, and by early next year, the new CT6. According to GM Hamtramck spokesperson Courtney Zemke, 40 of the 1,200 positions are for salaried employees, while the remainder will be hourly positions. As for where these employees will go, positions are being made available across the factory, so GM isn't focusing on any particular area for its new hires. It's a similar story behind the hiring surge itself. GM said in its press release that the "second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand," a position Zemke reiterated. It's a matter of demand across the plant's portfolio, rather than any one particular product seriously outstripping supply. Naturally, the United Auto Workers is happy with the move. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest said in the attached release. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." Hiring is going on now, with the second shift slated to get underway in early 2016. GM's Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly to Add Second Shift and More Than 1,200 Jobs Plant will nearly double its workforce by early 2016 2015-10-22 DETROIT – General Motors is nearly doubling its workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly by adding a second shift and more than 1,200 hourly and salaried jobs. The addition of a second shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,800 people when hiring is completed. The second shift is necessary to meet forecasted market demand for the five cars produced at Detroit-Hamtramck. "This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Detroit-Hamtramck produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Plant Manager Gary West. Second shift hiring is underway, and the shift is scheduled to begin operations in early 2016. "The workforce at Detroit-Hamtramck is second to none," said UAW Local 22 Shop Chairman Don LaForest. "We appreciate the opportunity to expand our UAW-GM family." The 4.1 million-square-foot Detroit-Hamtramck Assembly opened in 1985. GM has invested $1 billion in the plant over the last six years, making it one of the company's most-agile manufacturing facilities in North America.
