THIS IS A 1963 CHEVY CORVAIR CONVERTIBLE THAT RUNS, STOPS AND SHIFTS.  ALL THE WINDOWS ARE CLEAR AND ROLL UP, IT HAS A NEW MASTER CYLINDER AND THE TIRES ARE PRETTY GOOD SHAPE (PRETTY NEW).  IT GOES AND CAN CRUISE AROUND 65 IF YOU WANT TO GO THAT FAST.

THIS CAR IS A PROJECT IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON MAKING A SHOW CAR OR DOING A RESTORATION.  IT'S HAD THINGS DONE TO IT OVER THE YEARS APPARENTLY, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED.  THE SEAT ARE WITHOUT TEARS AND THE CARPET IS GOOD BUT THE DETAILS LIKE THE DASH PAD SOMEONE TRIED TO REPLACE, PUT IT ON CROOKED (DON'T KNOW IF IT CAN BE REMOVED AND ADJUSTED OR IF IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED?).

I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SHAPE THE ENGINE IS IN...ITS LOUDER BECAUSE IT HAS HEADERS ON IT AND NEWER MUFFLERS.  AND YES...IF YOU KNOW CORVAIRS IT DOES LEAK ABOUT 5 OR 6 DROPS OF OIL WHEN YOU PARK IT AFTER DRIVING.  THE AUTOMATIC 2 SPEED SHIFTS BUT ALSO LEAKS OIL...IT APPEARS TO BE A LEAKING GASKET, BUT CANNOT VERIFY.

YES THE PAINT IS SHINY BUT IT'S NOT A QUALITY JOB (I ESTIMATE IT'S ABOUT A 3 YEAR OLD PAINT JOB).  SOME OF THE PANELS (TRIED TO SHOW IN THE PICTURES) ARE NOT REAL STRAIGHT AND THERE IS EVIDENCE OF RUST AROUND THE RIGHT REAR FENDER WELL.  I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY OTHER RUST BUT AS I'VE CRAWLED AROUND UNDERNEATH IT, IT SEEMS TO BE IN TACT AND NOT FILLED WITH HOLES (IE. SOME OF THE NORMAL AREAS OF RUST SEEM TO BE CLEAN, BUT IT'S NOT ORIGINAL PAINT SO I CAN'T VERIFY THAT).

REGARDING THE ELECTRICAL, THE LIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS AND SIGNALS WORK, BUT THE DASH LIGHT BEHIND THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T.  DON'T KNOW WHY, AND I HAVEN'T CHECKED IT.
THE HEATER BOXES SEEM INTACT ON THE ENGINE AND STRAIGHT.  THE HOSE GOING INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT IS SHOT SO I DON'T KNOW THE CONDITION OF THE HEATING SYSTEM (IF YOU'RE FAMILIAR WITH CORVAIRS, THEY WORK THE SAME WAY VOLKSWAGONS DO WITH THE HEAT THAT COMES OFF THE ENGINE).

THIS IS A PROJECT I DON'T HAVE TIME TO DO.  I BOUGHT IT AS IT IS, BUT I DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO DO THE THINGS IT NEEDS TO MAKE IT WHAT I WANT IT TO BE.  SO I'M SETTING A FAIR PRICE ON IT EVEN THOUGH I WON'T RECOVER WHAT I HAVE IN IT.

I FORGOT TO PUT A PICTURE IN WITH THE TOP UP, BUT IT'S WHITE AND IN DECENT SHAPE WITH NO TEARS...THE PLASTIC WINDOW IS NOT FOGGED BUT IT'S ALSO NOT PRISTINE.  WHEN IT STOPS RAINING I'LL PUT A PICTURE UP.

PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS.  I WOULD NOT DRIVE THIS LONG DISTANCE, IT HASN'T BEEN USED AS A LONG DISTANCE DRIVER FOR YEARS, SO I WOULDN'T BE COMFORTABLE WITH THAT.  I WOULD URGE YOU TO INSPECT IT, DRIVE IT OR HAVE SOMEONE YOU KNOW IN THE AREA COME DRIVE IT.

I AM TRYING TO BE HONEST ABOUT THIS LITTLE CAR...IT'S CUTE AND A HEAD TURNER AND IT GOES AND STOPS, BUT PLEASE DO NOT THINK THIS CAR HAS BEEN RESTORED.  I AM SELLING IT AS IS, WITH NO GUARANTEES OR WARRANTEES IMPLIED.  PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS AND DON'T BID UNLESS YOU INTEND TO BUY IT...I DON'T WANT TO RE-DO ADS...I'M NOT MAKING MONEY ON THIS CAR!  I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE AD AT ANY TIME. IF YOU ARE NEW TO EBAY PLEASE CONTACT ME BEFORE YOU JUMP IN ON THIS.  THANKS FOR LOOKING.

MotorWeek Retro Review revisits 1984 Corvette

Thu, Oct 1 2015

MotorWeek's Retro Reviews are always a great glimpse into the cars of yesteryear. However, the newly uploaded look back at the 1984 Chevrolet Corvette is an absolute treasure trove for any auto history buff. This is a full episode of the show from the '80s, and it's dedicated to all of the details about the newest 'Vette to hit the market at the time. Beyond just the usual drive and an in-depth walk around, one of the major highlights here is a brief look at some on the concepts that eventually resulted in the fourth-generation Corvette of 1984. The C4's shape harkens back to sketches from 1978, and there even shots of early clay models that led the way for the design. MotorWeek also takes a tour through the Bowling Green, KY, factory for a detailed inspection of the entire production process. John Davis repeatedly calls the Corvette "the plastic fantastic" during the episode, and he can't find too much negative to say about being behind the wheel of the then-new coupe. See how it stands up to your own memories in the clip above.

Can DARPA hack into a Chevy Impala through OnStar?

Mon, Feb 9 2015

An ex-video game wizard named Dan Kaufman tracked a circuitous route to becoming the head of the Software Innovation Division at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. DARPA normally makes these pages because of its work with autonomous vehicles and automobile technology that overlaps with military applications, but for the past five years Kaufman and his multiple research teams have been working on creating unhackable software code that could be used in military drones. Part of that work has involved hacking into just about everything else, and as a segment on 60 Minutes reveals, that includes cars. The masterminds discovered a way to hack into OnStar, the General Motors telematics system. After figuring out how to hook into OnStar's emergency communication system, they overwhelmed it with data. While the computer was busy trying to manage the overrun of data, the research team inserted code that took control of the sedan's other computers, giving it control. So while reporter Leslie Stahl tooled around in a parking lot, a DARPA researcher with a laptop would occasionally take control of the car, like by applying its brakes or, conversely, removing the ability for Stahl to use the brakes. Hacking into vehicles has been in the news for years: Car and Driver ran a feature on the various ways cars could be hacked in 2011, two hackers released a car-hacking code at the hacker-fest Defcon in 2013 and demonstrated how it worked on a Toyota Prius and Ford Escape, and German researchers demonstrated how they could hack into BMW's Connected Drive remote-services system last week via an attack on the cars' telematics units. This isn't about GM or Onstar or the future; hacking into cars of all kinds isn't coming, it's here, and it doesn't take the half-billion-dollar annual budget of a small DARPA division to do it. Check out the 60 Minutes video on the CBS site (you can watch the entire video from a mobile device without logging in). The OnStar hacking starts at 6:45, but it's worth watching what leads up to that. News Source: Jalopnik Chevrolet Safety Technology Infotainment Autonomous Vehicles Videos Sedan hacking 60 minutes

Former Fisker CEO has some advice for Tesla Motors

Wed, Oct 22 2014

Former Fisker Automotive CEO and ex-Chevrolet Volt vehicle-line director Tony Posawatz has some words of caution for Tesla Motors. The long-time automaker executive questions the California automaker's long-term viability – and gives some praise – in a talk with Benzinga, which you can listen to below. While the all-wheel-drive D that Tesla unveiled earlier this month in Southern California wowed a packed crowd, Posawatz (starting at around minute 4:45 in the interview) says Tesla would've been better off taking the resources it expended toward that Model S upgrade and directed them towards speeding up the development of a more affordable plug-in. Perhaps a number of investors agreed, since the company's stock fell the day after the D was announced. Posawatz says Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of ZEV credits. Posawatz also says that Tesla has been over-reliant on the sale of zero-emissions vehicle credits in California for its earnings and questions whether the automaker will ever work at a large enough scale to sufficiently drive down costs and make consistent profits. Tesla CEO Elon Musk would take issue with this characterization. Posawatz first made his mark in the plug-in vehicle world when he was the vehicle-line director at General Motors for the Volt extended-range plug-in from 2006 to 2012. Later that year, he joined extended-range plug-in maker Fisker Automotive as its CEO, though quit that job during the summer of 2013 as the company was descending into insolvency. He joined the Electrification Coalition this past March. News Source: Benzinga Green Chevrolet Fisker Tesla Electric PHEV Tony Posawatz
