1962 Chevrolet Corvair 95 Ramp Side Pick Up

You are viewing a super nice ride that is very cool and tricked out.  Great surfer pick up wagon.  Done, dialed in, super clean and ready to go.  Needs nothing.  The build was over a few years and just recently finished with 45K original miles showing on the odometer.  The truck runs and drives excellent in town and at hiway speed.  Driven 267 miles since finished a few months ago.

Please read on for more particulars of the car:

Body/Paint:  The body is in excellent condition and is all steel.  It has had some patches panels installed in some areas.  No rust on the pick up.  The body was professionally prepped for paint.  PPG base/clear original colors for the year.  Wet sanded and buffed to a really nice finish.  The truck shows very well.  Some alterations done that make the truck better than factory involving items the factory should have done.  The engine cover was hinged to make it much easier to access the engine compartment with prop support.  The lower engine door, which pulls out is 64 with the inserted license plate area.  The bed, top edges and bottom portion of the rockers have bed liner material, which is color matched to the paint, both colors.  The bed is near perfect with great care in appearance and quality of build using welting on the seams.  Very presentable.  Weather stripping has been replaced.  Many items on the truck are powder coated for durability and appearance.

Interior:  The interior has been restored with some Greenbrier model upgrades from a donor car.  Done in a very cool quality vinyl with color coded piping.  The interior is very 60’s looking and tasteful.  The shifter is 64, which is much better than the 62 shifter set up.  This requires a 64 gas tank to accommodate the shifter since the shifter rod goes through the gas tank.  So much better to shift and drive than a stock 62.  Upgraded door panels, sun visors and headliner.  Gauge cluster is also out of a Greenbrier.  Sound deadener in back of seat along with good spare tire and storage pockets on the back of the seat.  New steering wheel and knobs and mats.  Eight track player that works well with cab speakers.  New carpet.

Running Gear:  The engine has also been upgraded to a 65 Corvair car engine 110 hp, which makes the truck much better to drive with lots of power.  The engine runs excellent and has very good compression.  The flywheel has been bolted rather than riveted like factory that was a problem back in the day.  Alternator upgrade providing better reliability.  Carbs have been rebuilt in the past and work very well and recently tuned with new wires, plugs, points, cap and rotor.  The trans is 4 speed stock with 64 shifter upgrade and works as it should.  The trans axle is all in good working order with no issues.

Suspension/Fame:  Clean with no rust and in very good condition.  The springs have been cut to lower the truck providing a very cool stance.  New hi pressure shocks installed.  Drives excellent and very straight.  The suspension on these trucks were over built and the same as a half-ton pick of the day.  They are very solid and stout.

Bright work:  Chrome bumpers are original in very good condition with a few scratches on the rear bumper.  All bright work is in good to very good condition with some small signs of wear, but very presentable.  Windshield chrome strip upgrade.  Tail gate reflectors are also an upgrade aftermarket with blue dots on the lights.  Polished stainless fasteners used throughout the truck primarily in the bed.  Very classy and well done.  Chrome bed handles are new.

Glass:  All original in very good condition.

Exhaust:  New stock exhaust.

Brakes:  Non power stock drum brakes with upgraded dual line master cylinder that is new and stops excellent.

Wheels/Tires:  Wheels and tires are new.  14X7 chrome five spoke Supremes with 195/75 R 14 tires.

What doesn’t work:  Radio and fuel gauge do not work at this time.  Heater is not working due to cables not being hooked up.  The blower motor is in place.

Summary:  If you are seeking a very cool ride that is different and want to stand out this truck is certainly worthy of your consideration.  Very cool and clean nostalgia vintage look that needs nothing.  I have over 100 pictures of the truck so please contact me and provide your email address if you would like additional pictures.  Great value and quality build for the money.  Don’t let this truck slip away.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.

Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?

Mon, Feb 27 2017

We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.

2016 Chevrolet Camaro starts at $26,695

Fri, Aug 21 2015

Parking the new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro in your driveway will cost $26,695, including the $995 destination charge. That's a cut from $27,000 for the same trim on a 2015 Camaro. If you prefer a V8 under the hood, then the base 1SS goes for $37,295, compared to $34,500 for that model currently. The 2016 Camaro is offered as a coupe and convertible in four trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, 1SS, and 2SS. The LT is available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque or a 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp and 284 lb-ft. The SS gets a 6.2-liter V8 with 455 hp and 455 lb-ft. The first examples arrive before the end of the year, but droptops and the turbo engine don't materialize until the first quarter of 2016. Base models come with tech like Chevy's MyLink infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, a rearview camera, automatic climate control, and multiple driving modes. The RS Package adds to the style with 20-inch wheels, HID headlights, LED taillights, a different grille insert, and rear spoiler. Opting for the SS brings a more aggressive exterior look, plus performance upgrades like Brembo brakes, differential and transmission coolers, and a limited slip differential on those with a manual gearbox. Upgrading to the 2SS adds amenities like heated and ventilated front seats, wireless phone charging, a Bose stereo, rear cross-traffic alert, and Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert. Options like a Magnetic Ride Control suspension and dual-mode exhaust offer additional sportiness. Reading about the 2016 Camaro is nice, but Chevy now has a visualizer for the pony car. It's not quite a full configurator but lets you check out different colors, wheels, and stripes to imagine your future purchase. Enjoy finding just the right combo.
