Up for grabs is my 1972 Super Cheyenne Shortbed.  Most would consider this truck to be show-quality.  This truck was fully restored in 2000 and has been garaged and undercove since.  Has about 2500 miles since all the work was done.  Speedo was reset at that time.  This was not a cosmetic makeover, but a real restoration.  The truck was born with a small block but was upgraded with new BBC when restored.  Motor is a 74, but was built to 400 hp and even more torque.  Build sheet included from reputable builder.  Over .020 bore and standard crank.  Works realy well.  Trans built at same time.  Radiator upgraded and rebuilt last week when Brand new Vintage Air installed on truck.  Old AC sold with truck if buyer desires.  New Set up is fully electronic and control head is stock in appearance.  In my opinion, this beats stock hands-down because it loses the old vacumn controls and stiff cables, and uses modern compressor that is much lighter in weight and more efficient.  this was professionally installed at cost of more than 3K alone.  The only trim that appears to not have been replaced during resto are door handles and they still look great.  Paint was high dollar job that still looks great. One marble size spot on bottom door corner needs repainted.  For paint to look this good almost fifteen years later is testament to quality of work.  Body is arrow straight, gaps good, hood hinges, doors, etc open and close like a vault.  Smelly gas tank removed from cab and blazer style tankrelocated between frame rails in rear and filler moved to left rear wheel well in truck bed.  Again, done to high standard.  Sending unit was tweaked a few weeks ago (removed tank to fix it)  worked for a while and quit.  Frustrating!  All other guages working including factory tach.  I consider this to be the most desireable year and the most desireable colors...  Thats why I bought it!  I wanted something other than ralley wheels and sourced new Wheel Vintiques OEM steelies in 8" and 10".  Had them powdercoated in black and then clear.  Put new wheel vintiques chevy centers and rings on them.  This setup ended costing about 800 when done.  Since wheels can be a personal taste choice, I will include a set of alloys in same dimensions to new buyer. Tires at 50% or better. The suspension on this truck is stock.  The truck sits nice and drives nice.  Front disc brakes of course.  The mufflers are new as are the stainless tips at rear.  Louder than a stock muffler but not flowmaster loud. The interior is near perfect, if not perfect.  Dash pad was replaced as was most of the bling.  Seat and carpet show no wear or damage.  The starter is new, carb was kitted a few months ago.  Newish battery.  Glass near perfect, if not perfect.  Reguators great.  Bumpers rechromed and look new.  I welcome/encourage personal inspection by buyer or buyer's agent.  If you can afford the gas, you could fly in and drive this home.  Too nice for open transport. I have the build sheet for this truck and all reciepts.  Selling for considerably less than build cost.  title held at my bank (USAA)  Fitted Car cover included with sale.  Car at my place under cover inside.  Happy to store for up to a month for buyer if needed.  Happy to provide photos for interested parties and to speak on the phone.  Thanks

GM natural gas-powered vans recalled due to possible leak

Wed, Sep 24 2014

General Motors is recalling almost 3,200 of its compressed-natural-gas powered utility vans because of possible leaks. GM and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) released a notice last week saying that 3,196 Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana CNG vans are on recall, though no accidents have been reported due to the possible issue. The recall is specifically for vans for model years ranging from 2011 to 2014. The recall stems from a potential leak from the compressed natural gas high-pressure regulator, and such a leak could cause a fire or explosion. GM will replace the vehicles' high-pressure regulator in order to fix the problem, will do it free of charge and is instructing owners to contact Chevrolet or GMC customer service to arrange for the parts replacement. Utility vehicle makers like General Motors have pushed for fleet sales of CNG-powered vans and trucks for the past few years and have touted them for their cheaper refueling costs relative to standard gasoline, not to mention the fact that natural gas can be readily sourced from throughout North America (thanks, fracking). According to CNGPrices.com, compressed natural gas sells for about $2.22 a gallon, on average, while the AAA is pegging the average price of gas at $3.34 a gallon. NHTSA has posted information on the recall here. Featured Gallery News Source: NHTSA via Reuters Green Chevrolet GM GMC Natural Gas Vehicles CNG gmc savana

Detroit 3 to implement delayed unified towing standards for 2015

Tue, Feb 11 2014

Car buyers have a responsibility to be well-informed consumers. That's not always a very simple task, but some guidelines are self-evident. If you live in a very snowy climate, you generally know a Ford Mustang or Chevrolet Camaro might not be as viable a vehicle choice as an all-wheel drive Explorer or Traverse, for example. If you want a fuel-efficient car, it's generally a good idea to know the difference between a diesel and a hybrid. But what if it's kind of tough to be an informed consumer? What if the information you need is more difficult to come by, or worse, based on different standards for each vehicle? Well, in that case, you might be a truck shopper. For years, customers of light-duty pickups have had to suffer through different ratings of towing capacities for each brand. For 2015 model year trucks, though, that will no longer be a problem. According to Automotive News, General Motors, Ford and Chrysler Group have announced that starting with next year's models, a common standard will be used to measure towing capacity. The Detroit Three will join Toyota, which adopted the Society of Automotive Engineers' so-called SAE J2807 standards way back in 2011. The standard was originally supposed to be in place for MY2013, but concerns that it would lower the overall stated capacity for trucks led Detroit automakers to pass. Ford originally passed, claiming it'd wait until its new F-150 was launched to adopt the new standards, leading GM and Ram to follow suit. Nissan, meanwhile, has said it will adopt the new standards as its vehicles are updated, meaning the company's next-generation Titan should adhere to the same tow ratings as its competitors. While the adoption of SAE J2807 will be helpful for light-duty customers, those interested in bigger trucks will still be left with differing standards. There is no sign of the new tow standards being adopted for the heavy-duty market.

2015 Chevy Colorado takes Motor Trend Truck of the Year calipers [w/videos]

Wed, Dec 3 2014

The final winner of Motor Trend's prestigious Golden Calipers has been named, with the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado taking the title of 2015 Truck of the Year, likely shocking those who thought Ford's all-aluminum, next-generation F-150 would take the crown. But win the Colorado did, beating not only the new Ford, but two other brutish Blue Ovals in the F-450 and Transit. The midsize pickup also bested its brethren from General Motors, beating the heavy-duty Chevy Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra Denali 2500 and the GMC Canyon, the Colorado's fraternal twin. After an unprecedented two-year stint with the Golden Calipers, Ram sat this year's awards out. Most impressive about the Colorado's victory isn't that it simply beat the US market's other trucks, it did so with a unanimous vote. Praise from MT's editors focused on the trucklet's price, spacious interior, fit and finish and performance. Former Autoblog staffer Jonny Lieberman called the Colorado's steering the best he'd "ever experienced on any truck, full stop," in MT's awards article. "After days of testing, hundreds of miles on the road, and our most rigorous truck testing program to date, our editors unanimously selected the Chevy Colorado as our 2015 Truck of the Year," said MT boss Edward Loh. "Colorado is a smart, capable, and refreshingly honest truck that makes a strong value and efficiency statement. It's perfectly sized and suited for the needs of many of today's truck users." The Colorado joins the 2015 Volkswagen Golf and 2015 Honda CR-V among Motor Trend 2015 award winners.
