This is a rare numbers matching Marina Blue '66 Chevelle SS factory 4 speed car restoration project. I call it rare in that it is an incredible solid and rust free example with all original sheet metal including the quarter panels, fenders, hood, doors, tailpanel and not to mention it being numbers matching. The trunk lid however has been replaced by a very straight original from another '66. The car has never seen an accident and the frame is perfect. I am an avid car collector and take pride in the vehicles that I own. I don't usually take on project cars, but this one had such a nice body that I couldn't pass up. I have sold 3 of my vehicles in the recent past to happy buyers here on ebay, please view their comments in my feedback.
I have owned this particular car for car for about 5 years now, I had every intentions in restoring this one, but don't have the time nor space. The car has sat along time disassembled, I bought it from a gentleman that did some work to it and basically lost interest and let it sit in his garage a long time. He rebuilt the axle and rear end, All new bushings front and rear.

This is an original dry Nevada car that really shows in how solid and rust free it is. The quarter panels are completely original with no patch panel whatsoever and still retain the partial VIN stamp (see photo), they are rust free and don't even require a single patch panel whatsoever, not even on the lower most corner like about 95% of Chevelle out there need or have had been replaced. I have never seen a 60s GM car that has not ever needed cheater panels or patch panels of some sort on the lower quarters. The wheel lips are perfect as well. The inside of the quarter panels are as clean on the inside as the out, zero rust with the original factory paint still there. The rear tailpanel is original with the a patial VIN stamp (see photo). The floors are impeccable with zero rust, not even surface rust top or bottom ever. The doors are totally rust free as well, the bottom door edge corners that are usually rusted, are perfect. The inner cowl and lower cowling are rust free where there is usually a cancer spot on the lower cowl (see photo). The trunk is beautiful rust free and wont need any patch panels either.
I apologize for the redundancy with the rust description, but I just want to get across on how rust free the car is. There is next to no surface rust on the body which is indicative on being from a dry climate.  The window tracks are nice and with only a small amount of pitting on the rear. The original hood is super nice and straight, but the previous owner stripped it to bare metal and started to put bondo a dent, but other than that you wont find a nicer or straighter original hood. The front edge is perfectly straight with no dents or rust like commonly found.
This numbers matching car including the engine, transmission and 12 bolt rearend. Unfortunately the engine was decked at some point, but the date code is A126 which breaks down as January 12 1966. The casting number is correct as well,
3855961. The muncie 4 speed #s are as follows, casting # 3883010, date code P0219 which breaks down as February 19th, and the VIN stamp of 6Z140898. The 12 bolt casting number is 3875744n with a date code of L95. The suffix code for the rearend is CW which is a 3.31 ratio. The car still has the rear "4 speed" frame supports that tie between the upper and lower control arm bushings. The build date of the car is 04C as in the third week of April. The oringal color is FF code Marina Blue.
As mentioned before this is a restoration project, but a very easy one at that. If it were me, I wouldn't do a frame off, the undercarriage is very presentable, the previous owner started restoring the car and disassembled it, and did a very nice job repainting the the firewall and used a high quality paint. The frame is nice and rust free as well. The front end has been completely gone through, control arm bushings, tire rod ends, pitman arm, wheelbearings. New coil springs all around, with new rear control arm bushings, and rebuilt rearend. For those who don't feel as comfortable taking on a project like this, there is a untouched '66 Chevelle parts car available locally here for $1000.
The car comes very complete with almost everything needed to put it back together
, you get everything in the pictures that pertain to a 1966 Chevelle. Again a parts car would insure an easy restoration. All the wiring is there and all the wire terminations are labeled nicely. The previous owner made a nomenclature that is very easily understandable. He also bagged all the screws and bolts and labeled them nicely. All the bright work is there.
Please ask all questions. Happy bidding!

GM doubles miles open to its Super Cruise technology

Wed, Aug 3 2022

DETROIT — General Motors said on Wednesday owners of certain vehicles equipped with its Super Cruise assisted driving system will now be able to use it on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads, doubling the current operating area as Tesla and other automakers race to deploy hands-free cruising technology. GM's Super Cruise system, like Tesla's Autopilot system, is a driver assistance system, and does not enable true autonomous driving. Spurred by Tesla's aggressive deployment of Autopilot, and Tesla Chief Executive Elon Musk's promises of a more advanced "Full Self Driving" system, GM, Ford, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz are racing to deploy competing partial automation technology in major markets. At the same time, safety regulators are showing concern that drivers do not understand that Autopilot and similar systems are not designed to take over driving in every circumstance. The GM system's sensors and software allow a motorist to cruise with hands off the wheel on highways that have been mapped in detail. But the driver is expected to stay alert and ready to take over the car. GM uses technology to monitor the driver, and Super Cruise will sound alarms or slow the car to a stop if it detects that a driver is not responding. Starting later this year, GM plans to enable vehicles equipped with Super Cruise and the company's latest vehicle electronic system to operate hands-free on major, undivided highways in the United States and Canada, as well as additional miles of divided, interstate highways. Currently, Super Cruise operates only on interstate, divided highways. The expansion, enabled by wider digital mapping, will allow owners of properly equipped GM vehicles to cruise hands-free on stretches of Route 66 and the Pacific Coast Highway in the U.S. West or the Trans-Canada highway in Western Canada, GM said. Many of the new roads GM has mapped are in rural, heartland states where GM pickup trucks are popular. GM plans to offer Super Cruise as an option on its Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra large pickups later this year. GM has said previously it intends to offer Super Cruise as an option on 22 models by the end of 2023. Depending on the model, Super Cruise costs $2,200 to $2,500 to add as an option. Is the skill of rev matching being lost to computers?

Fri, Oct 9 2015

If the ability to drive a vehicle equipped with a manual gearbox is becoming a lost art, then the skill of being able to match revs on downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. The usefulness of rev matching in street driving is limited most of the time – aside from sounding cool and impressing your friends. But out on a race track or the occasional fast, windy road, its benefits are abundantly clear. While in motion, the engine speed and wheel speed of a vehicle with a manual transmission are kept in sync when the clutch is engaged (i.e. when the clutch pedal is not being pressed down). However, when changing gear, that mechanical link is severed briefly, and the synchronization between the motor and wheels is broken. When upshifting during acceleration, this isn't much of an issue, as there's typically not a huge disparity between engine speed and wheel speed as a car accelerates. Rev-matching downshifts is the stuff they would teach at the automotive equivalent of the Shaolin Temple. But when slowing down and downshifting – as you might do when approaching a corner at a high rate of speed – that gap of time caused by the disengagement of the clutch from the engine causes the revs to drop. Without bringing up the revs somehow to help the engine speed match the wheel speed in the gear you're about to use, you'll typically get a sudden jolt when re-engaging the clutch as physics brings everything back into sync. That jolt can be a big problem when you're moving along swiftly, causing instability or even a loss of traction, particularly in rear-wheel-drive cars. So the point of rev matching is to blip the throttle simultaneously as you downshift gears in order to bring the engine speed to a closer match with the wheel speed before you re-engage the clutch in that lower gear, in turn providing a much smoother downshift. When braking is thrown in, you get heel-toe downshifting, which involves some dexterity to use all three pedals at the same time with just two feet – clutch in, slow the car while revving, clutch out. However, even if you're aware of heel-toe technique and the basic elements of how to perform a rev match, perfecting it to the point of making it useful can be difficult.

New Chevy Small Block crate engine has 405 hp, endless possibilities

Sat, Oct 3 2015

With decades of history, the Chevrolet Small Block V8 has definitely stood the test of time, and the company has kept finding ways to make it better. At this year's SEMA Show in November, Chevy Performance is unveiling the latest upgrade to that legacy with the new ZZ6 350-cubic-inch (5.7-liter) crate engine. Offering 405 horsepower and 405 pound-feet of torque, the mill should add a big dose of power to any project car. For the ZZ6, Chevy is working to improve the Small Block's high-rpm performance. To make that happen, the engine has Fast Burn aluminum cylinder heads and an updated valvetrain inspired by the LS family of powerplants. Large intake runners help with the airflow, and the valve springs use a tapered design that allows for less reciprocating mass. The mill also packs a forged steel crankshaft and high-silicon aluminum pistons inside of a cast iron block. Chevy is offering the engine in two versions depending on what the builder needs. The Base configuration comes with an intake, distributor, water pump, and a few other parts but lacks carburetor and accessories. Conversely, the Turn Key option has everything, including the carb, air cleaner, starter, alternator, and more. More details about their availability will be announced at SEMA. NEW ZZ6 CHEVY SMALL BLOCK ADVANCES CRATE ENGINE LEGACY Revised Fast Burn heads with LS-inspired valvetrain enhance high-rpm performance 2015-10-02 DETROIT – Developed with contemporary technologies, including a high-rpm valvetrain, Chevrolet Performance's new ZZ6 crate engine offers builders a modern twist on the classic Chevy Small Block 350. It uses updated Fast Burn cylinder heads with beehive-style valve springs inspired by the LS engine family – a feature that enhances high-rpm capability, enabling the new high-performance engine to achieve 405 horsepower and 405 lb-ft of torque. That's more power than any factory produced 350 engine ever installed in a Chevrolet production vehicle and it's one of the most powerful 350 Small Block-based crate engines in the nearly 27-year history of the "ZZ" lineup. "The new ZZ6 is the ultimate ZZ 350-based crate engine from Chevrolet Performance," said Jim Campbell, GM U.S. vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports.
