I am listing for auction a beautiful 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 307 Coupe. The exterior is finished in Misty Turquoise (original color) and has a black bench-seat interior. I had purchased this car from the grandson of the original owner. Therefore, it has belonged only to two parties....the original-owning family, and myself. I have the owner's manual and warranty booklet with PROTECT-O-PLATE in the original owner's name so you can see the relationship to the previous owner. I purchased this car with the intention of keeping it in it's original state, which I had done. Since my ownership, I've changed nothing with the exception of replacing the original plastic inner fenders with a pair of steel inner fenders. The plastic ones were cracked very badly and given the weight of the battery on the RH side, steel replacements were the only sensible option. I have also replaced the alternator with a correct Delco unit while retaining the original as I understand the value of original, date-coded components. Aside from the previously mentioned, as well as regular maintenance, it has been well cared for.

It is equipped with a 307 V8 engine, TH350 transmission, and a non-posi rear axle. Given my lengthy conversations with the previous owner, I believe these components to be original. The car honestly runs, handles, and operates just as you would expect of a car of this age and 61,xxx miles. The Malibu has power steering, but not much else. It has manual drum brakes (actually stops very well), non-A/C, non-tilt steering column, manual windows, and AM radio (works).

The previous owner, between the years of 1997-99, had the vehicle COMPLETELY gone through mechanically. All lights and gauges work properly (including the fuel gauge and speedometer/odometer). I have ALL receipts for EVERYTHING repaired on the car. During this period, the body had also undergone restoration/reconditioning. Again, I have ALL receipts and documentation for the body and interior labor performed as well as receipts for ALL parts purchased. As the pictures show, the body is rust-free. The Malibu has had new FULL 1/4 panels (OEM) installed and new front fenders (reproduction). The floors are solid as is the trunk (see pictures). Some of the brightwork is in need of replacement as the door handles, LH mirror, and some of the vinyl top trim were re-installed rather than replaced at the time of restoration. The seats had cloth/vinyl protective covers installed OVER the original seat covers (still underneath the protective covers). I believe this to be done by the original owner. I was actually prepared to have the seats recovered until I later discovered that they were only protective covers OVER the originals. There are well over $9,500 in receipts verifying all work done. Although there is a reserve, it is very reasonable and relative to market value for a vehicle in this condition despite the thousands spent on the recondition/restoration.

Please feel free to message me with any questions and I will reply to you as quickly as I'm able to. This vehicle is being sold AS-IS/AS DESCRIBED. I strongly feel that it would be in the best interest of any prospective buyer to personally inspect the vehicle BEFORE placing a bid rather than bidding sight-unseen so there are no later disagreements or misunderstandings regarding the representation of the vehicle as described/illustrated. By placing a bid, you are entering upon an agreement to follow through with the purchase of this vehicle should you win the auction. A non-refundable deposit of $500 is due within 48 hours of auction end. The remainder of payment due within 7 days of auction end (unless other arrangements are made and agreed upon). If the preceeding terms are not met, I reserve the right to re-list the auction. I do not have the capability of shipping the vehicle, therefore ALL transport/travel arrangements and costs are solely the responsibility of the buyer. All payments/funds must clear PRIOR to release of the vehicle and title, so please understand that weekends may not be suitable if paying via cashier's/bank check. My time and yours are very valuable, so please do not bid unless you fully intend on following through with the purchase. Again, please feel free to ask any questions and thank you for looking at my auction.

Just a note regarding the drivability and operation of the car....I had driven it home approximately 350 miles after purchasing it from the previous owner. I had my reservations and had my wife and kids follow me in our GMC Envoy, especially considering he had not driven it much at all since the 1997-99 time period. I came prepared with tools, hoses, belts, points/condenser, etc. As it turns out....I needed NONE of it. All that was necessary was a quart of oil and a lot of gas. The trip was mostly highway driving between 65-70 mph. The car handled much better than I had expected and quickly gained my confidence. Since then it is just driven on clear days typically joyriding with my sons. It starts without fail everytime and runs well.

Weekly Recap: Autonomous driving goes commercial in Nevada

Sat, May 9 2015

Nevada granted Daimler Trucks North America the first license to run an autonomous commercial vehicle on public roads in the United States Tuesday, marking another milestone in the technology's rapid advancement. Gov. Brian Sandoval and Daimler truck chief Wolfgang Bernhard promptly used the license to lap Highway 15 near Las Vegas in a newly revealed Freightliner Inspiration Truck. It was a clear signal that autonomous driving is big-rig reality, though it's still a long way from widespread use. Nevada certified two of Daimler's Freightliner Inspiration Trucks, which use the company's Highway Pilot system with a stereo camera, radar, and lane-keeping collision-prevention features to regulate the brakes and steering. The radar component has a long-range sensor that can cover 820 feet at an 18-degree angle and a shorter-range unit that stretches 230 feet at a 130-degree angle. The Inspiration trucks are based on the existing Freightliner Cascadia Evolution model used on US roads. In addition to the autonomous technologies, it also has futuristic design cues, including blue lighting in the front and a new hood and grille. While there are only two Freightliner Inspiration trucks in existence, Daimler expects to bring the Highway Pilot system into mass-produced big rigs by 2025, in time to capitalize on the market's predicted growth. The German truckmaker predicts the global hauling market will triple by 2050, and the United States will be a key part of that growth. Trucks carry 69.1 percent the nation's domestic freight tonnage and hauled 9.7 billion tons of freight in 2013, according to the American Trucking Association. Daimler expects autonomous driving to augment this growth, and perhaps evolve the role of the truck driver. Still, the company points out autonomous tech is not meant to replace drivers, but to assist them and relieve fatigue and monotony on long hauls. The driver has to stay in control for passing, in city traffic, and when hooking up the trailer. The company said autonomous driving also offers the potential for improved fuel economy – tests showed a five-percent gain – and lower maintenance costs. Daimler also said the technology could reduce congestion on the road. Much of this is attributable to the constant flow of traffic, which is aided by autonomous driving. While the benefits are becoming increasingly apparent, autonomous technology is still met with skepticism.

Chevy finishes restoration of damaged 1 millionth Corvette

Fri, Sep 4 2015

When a sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum devoured eight, rare examples of the iconic American sports car last year, some of the victims emerged better than others. While damaged, the 2009 Corvette ZR1 Blue Devil was able to drive out under its own power, making for a fairly straightforward restoration. Meanwhile, the one-millionth 'Vette came out looking like a pancake. Bringing the convertible back to perfection has taken four months and 1,200 man-hours, but the milestone car is finally on display again. After being a brief exhibit at the National Corvette Museum, the millionth 'Vette was moved to the General Motors Design Center. There, a 30-person team started on the difficult restoration. "When we disassembled it, we found that each employee involved in building it had signed a part of the car, which was fantastic and moving to see," said GM executive Mark Reuss. Therefore, the team tried to retain as many original parts as possible. The damage was extensive, and repairs included straightening the front sub-frame damage, patching the seats, and carefully restoring the dashboard pad to maintain the signatures below. The hood, front fascia, and side sills were replaced with parts from a donor vehicle. To keep the 'Vette perfect, the team scanned the names and put them on the new components. In one case, they even went back to an original employee to sign a replacement part. Surprisingly, the engine and transmission were fine. With the work done, the National Corvette's Museum's revived exhibit is nearly complete. Five of the other cars aren't being restored, and the museum is bringing the 1962 Corvette back to life.
Your browser does not support iframes.
Chevrolet Fulfills 1 Millionth Corvette Restoration Pledge Sinkhole-damaged milestone returns to National Corvette Museum 2015-09-03 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After more than four months and 1,200 man-hours of painstaking craftsmanship, restoration of the milestone 1 millionth Corvette – a white 1992 convertible – is complete. It was unveiled today at the National Corvette Museum, where it returns as part of the permanent exhibit. The car was damaged on Feb. 12, 2014, when it and seven other rare Corvettes tumbled into a sinkhole that opened beneath the museum's Skydome area. Chevrolet pledged to restore it.

First privately owned Corvette Stingray blitzes 1/4 mile in 12.23 at 114.88 mph

Tue, 01 Oct 2013

Chevrolet's latest road rocket, the Corvette Stingray, is a very quick car. If one needs further proof of that, we recommend they take a look at this video from Hennessey of what is claimed to be the first privately owned C7 Corvette to make a pass down the quarter mile. Not just any quarter mile, mind, this black C7 blitzed its way down the tuner's primary testing dragstrip. The Chevrolet ran the quarter in just 12.23 seconds at 114.88 miles per hour. That is a very quick time for a stock car.
Equipped with the Z51 package and a six-speed automatic transmission, not only does the C7 run a solid time, but it does so with little to no drama. That won't last though, as Hennessey will likely return it to its owner with far more power - we just hope they show a drag run of the completed product. Take a look below to watch the C7's 12.23-second run on video.
