This auction is for a 45 year old car. Do not expect it to be like-new condition. Please look at the photos closely. I also have a slide show with video on youtube ( http://youtu.be/In6pqBuHucy ). It always better to inspect a vehicle in person. This auction will be sold as is where is.  There are no warranties implied.  I require a $500 dollar deposit within 24 hours of the close of the auction with the sale completed within 7 days.  THIS CAR IS NOT RESTORED AND IS IN USED CONDITION. Please do not buy this car and develop buyer's remorse as there will be no refunds.  I will assist a transport person with arranging shipping, but the buyer pays for all shipping fees or you can pick it up in person.  Of course the purchase must be completed before the car leaves my possession.

I will try to assist in any reasonable way.

This car has been in my family since the day it was purchased as new in Nevada.  It belonged to my great grandmother. She gave it to her son, who gave it to my mother.  I am only assisting with this sale.  The car is original with the exception of a couple minor body parts and the engine was replaced with a Chevy 350 with four bolt bearings. The engine has around 500 miles on a rebuild. The odometer states 20,000 miles, so it is most likely 120,000 miles. It needs a tune-up. It has a four barrel carb, power glide automatic transmission with a column shifter. It has bench seats which show some wear. The back seats are excellent. The dash has a few cracks. It starts right up and the transmission shifts smoothly. It has power steering. It has drum brakes on all four tires. All of the glass appears good. It needs new exhaust. It does not have power windows or air conditioning, or power brakes. The body has a few minor dents and some rust. I tried to illustrate that in the pictures and video. Once again please see my youtube video. The front fenders have rust near the doors. The rear fenders have rust around the wheel wells. There is surface rust throughout the body and some in the trunk. The floors appear good. Door seals and trunk seals could use replacing. This is the hard top with no metal around the windows. The car was last licensed it 2003. Obviously the buyer will need to put some money and muscle into it to make it a daily driver.  It doesn't seem to leak fluids.

This is a fun old American Muscle Car. It is a great candidate for a complete restore or a custom restore. I will be happy to assist serious bidders with other questions. I may be out of town Wednesday through Saturday of this week. Please look at the youtube video and pause it often to get a good look at it.

Chevy Bolt EV, Chrysler Pacifica, Honda Ridgeline take 2017 NACTOY prizes

Mon, Jan 9 2017

Every year the 2017 North American International Auto Show kicks off with the North American Car of the Year Awards. We say "awards" after all those mentions of our home continent because it's not just cars. This year, in fact, the awards spread out to three separate honors: Car, Truck, and Utility. And without further ado, here are the winners. The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV is the Car of the Year, the Honda Ridgeline is the Truck of the Year, and the Chrysler Pacifica is the Utility of the Year. Honda's win is perhaps the biggest surprise, upsetting favorite the Ford F Super Duty for the win. The second-generation Ridgeline rides on a unibody platform and is offered in front- or all-wheel-drive, which is unconventional for a pickup. But the layout also offers a cargo bed with an in-floor trunk and solid fuel economy figures of 19 city, 26 highway in its most-efficient form. The Chevy Bolt EV, however, was probably the easiest winner to predict. Its 238-mile range and sub-$30,000 starting price after tax credits make it a breakthrough in the landscape of electric vehicles. With the Chrysler Pacifica available in a plug-in hybrid form, this year's award illustrates the industry's shift towards efficiency and electrification. And with Ford's recent announcement on future EVs, it might not be long will it be until we see a hybrid truck on the award stage as well.Related Video:

MotorWeek Retro Review revisits 1984 Corvette

Thu, Oct 1 2015

MotorWeek's Retro Reviews are always a great glimpse into the cars of yesteryear. However, the newly uploaded look back at the 1984 Chevrolet Corvette is an absolute treasure trove for any auto history buff. This is a full episode of the show from the '80s, and it's dedicated to all of the details about the newest 'Vette to hit the market at the time. Beyond just the usual drive and an in-depth walk around, one of the major highlights here is a brief look at some on the concepts that eventually resulted in the fourth-generation Corvette of 1984. The C4's shape harkens back to sketches from 1978, and there even shots of early clay models that led the way for the design. MotorWeek also takes a tour through the Bowling Green, KY, factory for a detailed inspection of the entire production process. John Davis repeatedly calls the Corvette "the plastic fantastic" during the episode, and he can't find too much negative to say about being behind the wheel of the then-new coupe. See how it stands up to your own memories in the clip above.

Question of the Day: Worst year of the Malaise Era?

Thu, Jun 23 2016

The Malaise Era for cars in the United States spanned the 1973 through 1983 model years, and featured such abominations as a Corvette with just 205 horsepower (from the optional engine!) and MGBs with suspensions jacked way up to meet new headlight-height requirements. There were many low points throughout this gloomy period, of course. The horrifyingly low power and fuel-economy numbers for big V8s during the middle years of the Malaise Era make a strong case for 1974 or 1975— the years of Nixon's resignation and the Fall of Saigon, respectively— as the most Malaisey years. But then the GM-pummeling debacles of the Chevy Citation and Cadillac Cimarron could make an early-1980s year the low point. 1979, the year of the ignominious Chrysler bailout? You choose!
