1968 Chevelle/malibu 396 Ss Clone on 2040-cars
Bowman, North Dakota, United States
We purchased this car 8 years ago. Upgraded the transmission 2 years ago to a 700R4. The transmission was rebuilt and installed by a professional shop. Engine is a 396 that runs and idles nice and is strong. We had the car dyno tested on a wheel dyno. Numbers came back at just under 300 HP and 325 Ft/lbs at the wheels. It has a 12 bolt posi rear with 3.73 gears. Matched up with the overdrive tranny, this car can be driven at interstate speeds all day long! Upper control arms installed on rear to take away wheel hop. Hooks and goes. Tires are in good shape front and rear with approx. 70% tread. Color is GM Seafoam Green Metallic. Interior is black and in very nice condition. Factory radio is still in dash but music flows from under dash AM/FM/CD deck with remote. As you can see in the photos, there are a few dings in the drivers door paint. Also one scratch on the trunk lid, and two on the body strip in front of the hood. With a small amount of cracking above the rear window in the corner as is common with this body style. Car has been trouble free, with about 5000 miles to and from car shows and pleasure cruses since we have owned the car. Engine was rebuilt shortly before we purchased the car. Trans has less that 2000 miles on it. |

Next-gen Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra may use carbon fiber
Thu, Dec 7 2017It's been generally accepted that the next generation of full-size GM trucks will use some sort of strong, lightweight material for the beds while retaining steel for the cab. While aluminum seems like the most obvious choice, according to Automotive News, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra will incorporate both aluminum and carbon fiber in their beds. The publication cites sources from within GM, though it seems the introduction of this comparatively exotic material mix is still a few years off. While carbon fiber is both stronger and lighter than steel and aluminum, it takes significantly more time and money to produce, essentially relegating the material to small-volume cars. The main benefit for trucks is the resulting reduction in weight to improve fuel economy without sacrificing the tough, rugged capabilities truck buyers expect. The Ford F-150 made the switch to aluminum for the 2015 model year and it's proved highly successful. It seemed like it was only a matter of time before the competition followed suit. Automotive News says that the next-gen trucks will launch with aluminum beds and that it will take a couple of years before we'll see any carbon fiber incorporated into the design. Even then, only look for the composite material on higher-trim models, with a trickle down to lower-spec trucks possible further in the future. In 2011, GM announced it was working with Japan-based Teijin Limited on a carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic. There's a good chance that material's introduction will be on trucks. Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states
Fri, 26 Sep 2014The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.
