So here is the deal - I REALLY REALLY don't want to get rid of this car, but I am in a position where I have to at this point. We recently had a death in the family and it resulted in a free new car. Thus, we now have one too many cars and no where to put this one. My loss your gain (and my wife's gain as she hates on clutter and is on me to get rid of this car ...).

This car is an excellent first car, college car, daily driver, grocery getter, whatever you want to call it - nothing flashy - just an honest to goodness hard working vehicle for people who are money conscious and want to get from point A to point B.

Let's get to it - this is a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier with 128,538 miles on it ... which means realistically it has not even used half of it's mileage life yet!! Why the low miles you ask - my commute to work is about 3 miles and we always rent a car when we take long road trips so we don't run up the mileage on our cars. THIS IS A ONE OWNER CAR ... YES ... ONE OWNER. We typically keep our cars for a very long time and we care for them like they need to last forever. Oil changes every 3,000, tires rotated every 6,000, trans. fluid changed religiously, air filter, pcv, and the list goes on. If it is on the scheduled maintenance item list - it has been checked and maintained.

I will tell you right now what makes this car a prize possession and why I don't want to get rid of it - GAS GAS GAS!! This CAR HAS THE 2.2L engine and is FANTASTIC on gas! I believe the milage is somewhere around 30 mpg - and that is amazing when you consider this car was built in 1996! Honestly, it is a money saver.

With all of that said - this car is a 1996 ... so it does have it's minor issues just like any older car. Here is what you are looking at - air conditioning does not work. I believe it is simply a leak, but I have not recharged it in a couple of years because it just really never bothered me. My drive was so short it really did not matter. The headlights only work in "brights" mode. This is a short and can be found all over the internet as a known issue. If you are handy - this is an easy fix - if not, just use the brights as the lights as I have. It has been no problem at all as the brights are not "crazy" brights like newer cars so they pretty much look like normal headlights and work fine. Body has some rust near the gas tank. Lastly, the hood release does not work from in the car. I fixed it using a piece of cable that you can simply reach under the hood and pop it - no big deal and you could probably fix it fairly easily if you had time and were handy. Other than that - this car is mechanically very sound and we never hesitate to drive it. In fact, I have had my daughter (in her 40's, not a "kid") driving it rather than having it sit and I trust it 100%.

I am more than happy to share service records with you if you are interested. I have a spreadsheet with all of the dates and mileage of services performed.

IF YOU BUY THIS CAR I WILL ALSO THROW IN MY HAYNES REPAIR MANUAL. It has served me well and should go with the car so you can keep it running for a long time and well maintained - hopefully it will be helpful to the buyer.

What else would you like to know? If you have any questions at all or if you would like additional pictures or if there is any way I can help out with information about the car please don't hesitate to contact me and I will be more than happy to offer up anything I can.

As you can see - I have been on Ebay for a long time - I don't sell a ton of stuff, but the stuff I do sell is always 100% feedback as you can see.

Best of luck and Happy Bidding to all!

Chevy Bolt wins 2017 Green Car of the Year

Thu, Nov 17 2016

We knew that a plug-in vehicle was going to win the 2017 Green Car of the Year award this year, given that all five finalists have a way to charge up. And when Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, announced the winner – the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV – he said that the car itself represents one of those times in the auto industry when everything is about to change. Similar to the invention of the starter motor, things are about to get different. For now, though, the fact that the Bolt EV won an award sounds like the same old thing all over again. Just this week, it was named Motor Trends Car of the Year and to the Car And Driver Top 10 list. The other four finalists for Green Car of the Year included the Toyota Prius Prime, the Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia Optima (including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models) and the BMW 330e iPerformance. Last year, the winner was the 2016 Chevy Volt. Did Green Car Journal make the right selection this year? See the award ceremony below.

Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado

Sat, Oct 9 2021

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom Sport Quick Spin

Fri, May 8 2015

Coincidentally, the week we had the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom Sport a friend asked, "What would you buy if you could only have one vehicle for everything?" After a week's driving and trailer hauling, very close to first choice would be an American pickup. They're all so good now, you can't lose. And as we found in the Chevy you can go anywhere and haul anything, and you pay no penalty for capability until you try to find an open space on the street to park. Nicely equipped versions like the Custom Sport aren't cheap, but if you need a truck and you like the look of this one, it is really good. Driving Notes The cabin is big and inviting, and everything in it is big and inviting. The materials are nice enough to look and feel swanky but not so lavish that you're afraid to get them dirty. The seats are sized for adult male bears but they don't swallow you up. The sunroof is big enough to be an observatory. It's also quiet. The only time it gets mildly unruly is when you call for power and the engine has to downshift a few gears, otherwise you don't hear the exhaust unless you roll down the window. It looks like it was designed with a T-square. I quite like it, the body-colored bumpers toning things down, the 20-inch wheels doing a much better job of filling those ample arches than the standard 17-inchers. The truck is built for people who take their work and all their gadgets with them. The front console has three USB ports, two 12-volt cigarette lighter ports, and a three-prong 110-volt outlet. The giant cubby at the base of the console has an insert to hold a clipboard or a small tablet. The abyss under the center armrest has one more 12V cigarette lighter, two more USB ports, an SD card reader, and another specialized holder for something the size of a small tablet. There's a WiFi hotspot so the streaming never has to stop. The Chevrolet navigation was trouble-free as usual, and you can input destinations on a QWERTY touchscreen keyboard. Every nav system should be so solid. The Silverado has some of the best feature implementations we've encountered in any vehicle. The lane departure warning and park assist systems don't vibrate the steering wheel, they vibrate the seat. The left, right, and middle of the seat bottom will pulse as necessary, an intuitive, peripheral way to deliver a message that doesn't interrupt your primary focus. The rear-view camera is no longer offset, it's centered.
