Up for sale is a 1995 Chevrolet Caprice that has been completely gone through. There are NO check engine lights, ALL the windows roll up and down and it starts up every time. I am the second owner since 2006 and was purchased from an elderly gentleman when it had approx 55k miles. Body has 127k now but the motor has approx 85k on it. It came with the standard 4.3 V8 but in may of 2012 I started to overhaul the car and here's a list of what was changed/added.
**Newly Updated**
**Added a 120 amp alternator built by TRS as well as a new Duralast starter***
-1994 REAL corvette motor (5.7 Lt1) ($1200) purchased from Coastal Corvettes in Mims,Fl (you can tell its real by the aluminum block and composite valve covers)
-Lt4 hot cam from Jegs($249)
-Lt4 valve springs($50)
-msd opti-spark with cap & rotor($620)
-ngk spark plugs ($24)
-duralast thermostat($25)
-Ac delco water pump (made in USA!!)($310)
-melling hydraulic lifters ($180)
-motor mounts($25)
-new radiator for impala ss ($100)
-intake elbow with baffle delete($55)
-belt tensioner ($60)
-ac delco serpentine belt ($25)
-bought and installed a used set up from friend that came with polished fuel rail, ported intake manifold at 58mm and ported BBK throttle body 58mm to match that came with a set of ford racing 28lb injectors est at a value for ($500) however I am also throwing in the original intake manifold, fuel rail, and throttle body that came with the corvette motor and a set of barely used 30lb venom injectors ($245) that I originally intended on using that I bought from Jegs.
-new air dam($25)
-BRAND NEW 4L60e TRANSMISSION with performance upgrade shift kit for automatics (with my used shell) from All Transmission World ($1000 at a discounted price) not including install
-3000 stall torque converter from ATW as well($350)
-after market external transmission cooler($250)
-oil pump drive shaft($10)
-melling oil pump($40)
-H pipe true dual exhaust (305)
-generic magna flow mufflers (100)
-ac delco fuel pump(100)
-spectra fuel tank sending unit(160)
ALL BRAND NEW seals, gaskets, radiator hoses.
*car was dyno tuned by Jim Smith (former GM engineer that is well known in the Lt1 and Lt4 world) at Next Level Performance ($600)
-black powder coated impala SS rim($450) are still nice looking but of the rims paint are starting to spider web crack if you look closely.
-z rated tires over ($850)
-single din pioneer ($100)
-power akoustik 6x9s and 4x6s ($200)
-new carpet (I forgot the $ maybe 80-120 range)
*rear gears are still the stock 2.73? Gears because it does great on the highway that way and has a higher top end speed but if you are looking for a quick bottom end speed (0-60) you can easily change them to 3.42 or 3.73 for $400 with installation. But with the setup it has now it easily gets 20mpg highway! City mpg all depends on your right foot!
*other than that I think that's everything, there is an extremely small oil leak coming from the bottom of the timing chain cover that's almost negligible but I am detail oriented. Paint is starting to peel in certain places (front bumper, back bumper, etc) and there are pings from the inside of the trunk that are visible on the outside. Car was painted back in 2009 but I was unhappy with it and made them repaint it 2 more times and I was still not fully satisfied even though they charged me around $1,900

GM Recalling 370,000 Trucks For Fire Risk

Mon, Jan 13 2014

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors is recalling 370,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from the 2014 model year to fix software that could cause the exhaust components to overheat and start a fire. The recall includes 303,000 trucks in the U.S. and 67,000 in Canada and Mexico. All of the trucks involved have 4.3-liter or 5.3-liter engines. GM said eight fires have been reported, but no injuries. One garage was damaged, the company said. All of the incidents occurred in cold weather. The company is asking customers not to leave their trucks idling unattended. GM dealers will reprogram the software for free. The company will inform owners starting Jan. 16. The major recall announcement, which came on Saturday, marred the Silverado's winning of the 2014 North American Truck of the Year Award at the Detroit Auto Show on Monday. Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

GM patent reveals new two-stage turbocharger

Fri, Jun 24 2016

Modern turbochargers may be some of the best ever made, but performance is something that engineers are always trying to improve. According to GM Inside News, General Motors (GM) is hoping to alleviate some of the negative aspects of a two-stage turbocharger setup with a newly-patented design. The patent, that was filed on May 19, 2016, reveals a clever bypass system that allows the engine, a four-cylinder unit, to optimize both the low-pressure and high-pressure inlets for its respective functions. According to the filing, a conventional two-stage turbocharger setup is engineered to allow both turbines to operate simultaneously at low and mid engine speeds. At high engine speeds, only the low-pressure turbine works. The setup can't isolate either the low or high pressure side, which can impair low-end performance. GM's new two-stage turbocharger setup looks to eliminate this by linking the high-pressure turbo to the exhaust manifold through the high-pressure inlet duct. The low-pressure turbo is attached to the high-pressure turbo by a low-pressure inlet duct, which is linked to a connecting channel. A single actuator that is housed in the exhaust manifold creates a bypass that can opens the high-pressure inlet or close the connecting channel. Depending on what the engine load and speed is, the ECU guides the actuator—a single rotating spindle with discs corresponding to flanges on the high and low pressure sides—to isolate one of the two turbos. Isolating the turbos allow the respective inlets to be engineered for the best possible fluid dynamic performance. The setup should increase performance and decrease lag. There's no word on what car this setup will make an appearance on, but it will most likely be used in premium vehicles before trickling down to the rest of GM's vehicles.
