96 Camaro Ss Number 1948 Manual Transmission Teal Convertible on 2040-cars
Carmel, Indiana, United States
|
ONE
OF ONLY TEN EVER BUILT One of only 10 Camaro SS convertibles ever produced in
the bright teal color. Bright teal was
only available for SS conversions done by SLP in 1996. Of the 10 convertibles produced, 4 were
automatic transmission, 6 were 6 speed manual transmission. This vehicle was ordered with every Camaro
option available except traction control.
In addition to the SS package, the Hurst shifter and stainless steel
performance exhaust were additional SLP options ordered. This is an original owner, non-smoker, 88K mile car that
has been maintained as new. Anytime
anything went wrong it was repaired to bring the vehicle back to fully
functional. If interested, I have
retained all of the original parts that have been removed. This vehicle served as a daily driver the
first six years of service. It has since
been semi-retired and used as necessary for back-up transportation and top down
cruises on nice summer days. The car still shows well I have no hesitation in giving
it a good healthy cleaning and entering it in shows. The paint is still in good shape. The leather in the interior is showing some age
(see interior photos) but no tears. The
driver seat back cover was replaced with a new GM leather cover because of the
typical wear in the outer bolster. That
cover will be included with the sale and could be repaired and used again. The typical cracked dash was replaced with
the correct GM new part. The commonly
broken SLP air cleaner was recently replaced with an NOS unit. Currently, there is a problem in the interior courtesy
light circuit I have not been able to track down. The lights stay on all the time and I have
not been able to correct the situation.
Unfortunately, the remote door locks are on the same circuit, so
inactivating the lights has the door locks not working at the moment. The vehicle security system still works, but
manual lock and unlock operation is necessary. Of interest is this vehicle retains the correct original
Hurst shift knob, not the common replacement version found on many of these
cars. This vehicle also retains the
original 16 inch ZR-1 wheels found only on SS convertibles in 1996. It is SS number 1948. The original console plate had the black
plastic center come out. SLP provided a
replacement but I have never mounted it (see photo). This vehicle is stock and original except as noted. It has never been modified except for the
addition of the 97 Camaro anniversary stripes painted in Dupont silver/green
flip-flop paint. The deck lid stripes remain
but the replacement hood does not have them. The SLP SS supplemental owners manual is still in the
glove box. I will also include in the
auction a set of GM factory manuals and sales brochures for 96 Camaro and the
SS package (see photo). Here is your chance to own Camaro rarity. One of only ten! If you have read this far, I don’t need to go
into detail about the SS package and what it includes. If there are any questions, please email before the
auction ends. This vehicle is drivable
if you want to pick it up and drive it home.
I will also work with a shipper if desired. |

Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept foreshadows an affordable, 200-mile EV future [w/videos]
Mon, Jan 12 2015Confirming numerous reports and rumors, Chevrolet introduced the Bolt EV Concept, "a vision" of a 200-mile EV with an entry price of around $30,000. Those lofty promises ride atop a funky crossover that made its global debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. The orange five door features a spacious greenhouse, complemented by a glass roof and thin D-pillar. A narrow grille and slim LED headlights crown a high fascia that leaves little ahead of its front axle. It's a similar story in back, as General Motors' design boss Ed Welburn sought to limit overhangs and maintain the Bolt's small footprint. "Form and function have never meshed so well together," Welburn said. "No compromises were made when it came to aesthetics and the elements that contribute to the Bolt EV concept's range, resulting in a unique proportion that's sleek, efficient and obviously a Chevrolet." The cabin is not unlike current Chevrolet compacts, with the MyLink touchscreen and a detached instrument cluster dominating the sparse dash. Unlike cars like the Sonic, which features a similar design for its instrument cluster, A Volt-like display is found over the steering column. "The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity," CEO Mary Barra said. "Chevrolet believes electrification is a pillar of future transportation and needs to be affordable for a wider segment of customers." Take a look at both the official gallery of Bolt images, as well as our live shots. And then scroll on down for more comments from GM brass, in the official press release. Chevrolet Bolt EV Concept Signals Brand's EV Strategy Affordable, long-range concept builds on brand's electrification leadership 2015-01-12 DETROIT – Chevrolet today made a significant statement on its commitment to electrification with the introduction of the Bolt EV concept – a vision for an affordable, long-range all-electric vehicle designed to offer more than 200 miles of range starting around $30,000. "The Bolt EV concept is a game-changing electric vehicle designed for attainability, not exclusivity," said General Motors CEO Mary Barra. "Chevrolet believes electrification is a pillar of future transportation and needs to be affordable for a wider segment of customers." Leveraging the electrification prowess established by Volt and Spark EV, the Bolt EV concept is designed to offer long-range performance in all 50 states and many global markets.

GM profits threatened by glut of pickups
Wed, 05 Dec 2012Automotive News reports that General Motors may slash production or ramp up discounts in order to deal with an oversupply of pickup trucks. GM currently has more than double the standard supply of pickups, and the vehicles are threatening to dampen the automaker's profits for 2013. Typically, automakers try to sustain a 60- to 75-day supply of vehicles, but GM is currently loaded with a 139-day supply, as of last month. At the end of November, the automaker was sitting on 245,853 units.
The manufacturer says that it will adjust production accordingly before laying any incentives on the profitable pickups. Even so, there's some concern that the inventory swell could hurt the roll-out of the next-generation Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra. GM actually began slowly stepping back production in August, but it's clear the company will take further action as it heads toward the end of the year and into the next. Analysts predict the automaker could reduce pickup manufacturing by nearly half in the first quarter of 2013.
That still may not be enough to keep GM from laying extra cash on the Silverado and GMC Sierra. While the company's incentive spending was down in November compared to the same month in 2011, both the Ram 1500 and Ford F-150 saw double-digit percentage increases in sales last month while the Silverado and Sierra numbers slid compared to a year prior. Incentive spending could help move more trucks and add some balance to the GM inventory surge.
