I have a black, manual transmission, 1998 V6 Chevy Camaro for sale.  The car has ~118,000 miles on it and it comes with two sets of tires and rims. A set of winter tires is currently on the car and these are mounted on Z28 rims. The stock rims have all-season tires and one tire didn't pass inspection, so I didn't put that set on it. You'll need to replace two of the tires. The other two have life left on them.  I do have another all-season radial not on a rim that will work and your welcome to take it.  It will replace the tire that didn't pass inspection, but the treads won't match.  Suffice it to say, this car comes with lots of tires and rims.

Here are some details about the car.

The car is a good runner!  It has only been driven in the summer and early fall for the last six years and has probably seen maybe 1,500 miles a year since then.  There's nothing mechanically outstanding about this vehicle. It has the original exhaust that runs fine. The undercarriage is in good shape. The brakes are in fine shape and the car passed inspection without a problem (except for the one tire). The brakes do NOT pulsate, which is common with the Camaro if driven in the snow.   It has not been driven in the snow in six years.  The interior is in good shape, although there is wear and age on some panels. Fog lights work perfectly.  All the window motors are working, but a little slow. The power locks, trunk release, and security system work fine. The air conditioner works fine and blasts frigid-cold air very well. The battery was replaced in 2009. The alternator was replaced in 2010. All the marker lights, turn signals, and headlights are operational. It comes with two new remotes.  All scheduled maintenance and oil changes were done on time, with oil changes performed well ahead of schedule (every 1,500 miles) when the car was new. I always use synthetic oil.

One nice feature of this car is the upgraded sound system.  When I bought the car in late 1997, I had the original stereo, speakers, and audio wiring removed. Gold-plated wiring was installed with a Boston Acoustics speaker system throughout the car. Tweeters are custom installed on the dash and the high frequencies project off the windshield to produce a nice sound field that centers the audio in the middle of the cabin. An Alpine amplifier is installed in the rear pit of the vehicle and all the wiring runs to this. The head unit is an Alpine CDA9805 50W (x 4) system coupled with a BBE crossover and 11-band EQ w/fader. I intended to custom build a subwoofer over the rear pit and wire it into the amp. The BBE crossover would manage the subwoofer and all the other speakers. I never got around to installing this, but it's an upgrade that could be added to the car. The Boston Acoustics speakers were replaced with a new system in 2006 that offered better low end. The car is a fun car to drive and I love the audio system in the vehicle. It's always been a primary part of the driving experience, for me.

Now for the problems.  This car is fifteen years old, so you have to accept a few things.

The right side of the dash cluster is out. In 2004 it stopped working and then sometime in 2005 it started working again and then shortly afterward it stopped again. It might just be an intermittent problem that requires the cluster to be reseated; I'm not sure. I never pursued having it fixed. The dash cluster works fine, otherwise, and I can see the mileage by shining a flashlight at an angle over the odometer.  All the gauges operate fine.

There's a scratch and dent on the hood around the front passenger headlight (see pics) from the car lunging forward in the garage and hitting a wheelbarrow. :-( There is some paint peeling off the lower front grill. There are a few scratches and door dings from being parked in parking lots over the years (normal stuff for a fifteen year-old car). The hood was replaced from a minor deer hit at a slow speed (~20 MPH). The deer flopped on the hood and dented it. It was replaced in 2005.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I can supply more pics, if interested. Come and give it a test drive. I'd like to find it a new home. With a wife and new baby, this car doesn't fit into our family structure. I need to sell it and get an SUV.

15 vehicles most likely to surpass 200,000 miles

Tue, Mar 8 2022

Americans drive a lot. Collectively, we put, on average, more than 13,000 miles on our cars each year according to the U.S. Department of Transportation. Because of this, a vehicle's ability to travel long distances without major problems is a huge consideration when it comes time to purchase a new one. It's also worth remembering that keeping an older car on the road instead of trashing it and buying new can be considered an eco-friendly decision. After all, it takes a lot of resources to build a car. iSeeCars.com, a website that aggregates used car listings from all around the country, recently ran through the numbers on millions of vehicles that are currently on the road to determine which last the longest. Alternatively, you could choose to look at this list as vehicles likely to be driven by owners who travel long distances. Either way, we've laid out the top 15 vehicles most likely to hit or even surpass the 200,000-mile mark. It's important to note that while these are the vehicles that have stood the test of time up until today, we can't guarantee future results if you decide to opt for one of these from a current model year. That said, unless we specifically say so in the text below, we've used pictures of current models for illustrative purposes. Now, with all of that out of the way, scroll on down for the top 15 vehicles most likely to crest 200,000 miles. 15: Toyota Sienna 14: Honda Odyssey The 15th spot and 14th spot on the list of the top 15 vehicles most likely to surpass 200,000 miles are both minivans. Spoiler alert: They will be the only two minivans on the list. According to iSeeCars, 3.2% of both of these family haulers crest the 200,000-mile mark, making them the best bets for families looking to put a ton of miles on their machines. 13: Honda Ridgeline 12: GMC Yukon The next spot on the list is occupied by the Honda Ridgeline pickup truck with 3.7% lasting past 200,000 miles. Unlike any of the other midsize trucks it competes with, the Ridgeline is based on a unibody chassis. Opting for this more car-like structure — as opposed to a traditional body-on-frame layout — allows Honda's hauler to ride and drive more like a car. Up next is the GMC Yukon, also with 3.7% past the 200K mark, and the first, but very much not the last, big traditional SUV you'll see on the list. In fact, get ready to see a whole bunch of 'em, including several from GMC parent General Motors.

Sunday Drive: Subaru Ascends up to the hottest market segment in America

Mon, Feb 19 2018

Utility vehicles – in other words, crossovers and SUVs – are so hot right now. Two of our top stories from last week revolve around the utilitarian vehicle, but besides their jacked-up, five-door bodystyles, they couldn't be more different. The 2019 Subaru Ascent is headed into an extremely crowded and competitive segment, where it'll have to go up against industry stalwarts like the Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot, not to mention upstart contenders like the Volkswagen Atlas. The Mercedes-AMG G63, on the other hand, has very little competition – there simply aren't very many ultra-luxurious, off-road-ready SUVs in the world vying to attract the dollars of the wellest-to-do customers across these United States. Moving on from crossovers and SUVs, our readers remain attracted to classic front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sportscars. The Toyota Supra's upcoming rebirth earns two places on our list of stories worth highlighting from the week that was; one with leaked information from a Japanese magazine, and another with rumors indicating that maybe we shouldn't be quite so excited. And finally, there's the strange case of the long-lost 2009 Chevy Corvette Z06 that one lucky individual happened to find squirreled away in a storage container with just 720 original miles. A high-horsepower head scratcher if we've ever seen one. As always, stay tuned to Autoblog this week for all the latest automotive news that's fit to print. 2019 Subaru Ascent vs Honda Pilot vs Toyota Highlander: How they compare on paper 2019 Mercedes-AMG G63 set to bare its 577-horsepower heart in Geneva Toyota Supra leaks in Japanese magazine ahead of Geneva debut Toyota Supra to be little more than a rebodied BMW Z4? Just the right Camaro can change your life

Thu, Jan 22 2015

Not many people can say that their car directly motivated them into a career, but that's exactly the case for Adam Martin and his 1968 Chevrolet Camaro that he calls Lucy. Martin bought the pony car in primer when he was just 16, and it helped foster his profession in restoring classic cars. Beyond just being a very cool ride for a teenager, every change to Lucy was an opportunity to hone a new automotive skill for Martin. Whether figuring out how to paint a car or building the 454-cubic-inch (7.4-liter) big block V8, the Camaro offered a platform for experimentation. This latest episode of Petrolicious gets personal about the bond between man and machine for this 18-year ongoing project. And even if the story doesn't immediately grab you, Lucy has a great voice and can do a mean burnout.
