I am the original owner of this car. It was custom ordered by me as a General Motors Employee in 1994 and received at Champion Chevrolet in Manhattan Beach, California in January 1995. It has been in California its entire life and is rust free. The paint is still shinny.  The car has a Black Cloth Top with a Grey Leather interior. I ordered the car with a 5 speed manual transmission since I like to shift for my self. I am recently retired and have too many cars and not enough storage space. With sadness I have decided to let this one go and let someone else enjoy it. The car is all original with no modifications except for an alarm system and locking gas cap.

This is a very sharp looking convertible. In a few years this car will be considered a classic and will appreciate considerably. It is a great investment. The 6 cylinder engine runs on regular gas and is more economical than its 8 cylinder brother. This car has always passed the California smog test, most recently, late last year.

In Jan. 20th 2003 with 101,079 miles the engine blew a head gasket and rather than have the gasket replaced, I replaced the entire engine with a new factory engine (this is a new engine not a remanufactured one) at a cost of $5,000. In the pictures is the paper work and receipts for the new engine. The car presently has 129,357. This means the new engine has 28,278 miles on it. I have the boot (goes in when top goes down) in new condition with the carrying case. I used it one time. Included are all of the maintenance and repair records from day one.

The driver side window sticks sometimes and should be looked into. The drivers side needs a sun visor. Sometimes I hear a squeal in one of the wheels it may be a wheel bearing that needs replacement. I has been this way for a long time. In the past 5 years I have driven this car around the block twice a week to keep it running. The car always starts but you may consider replacing the battery since it is very old. The plastic front bumper has a crack it it. If you put the mask on it hides it. The rear bumper is scratched and has a small vertical crack in the plastic which do not show in the pictures. One of the two power unlock and power window switches is broken. I replaced one a few years back for $5. The tires are in great shape with lots of tread life remaining. I have a lifetime alignment policy with Firestone. The glove box sometimes opens if you go over a bump. The leather interior is in good shape with the exception of the drivers side bolster (see picture). The cloth convertible top is original and has no tears and is still in good shape. There is a slight discoloration along the top in the material (see pictures). These factory tops were made in Germany and of amazing quality. The right rear quarter panel has a few small dings and scratches (see picture) near where the antenna goes. An indigent man on a bicycle hit it in a parking lot. The antenna is in the trunk. I take it off to put the car cover on. The radio, CD and all speakers work. The cruise control works. The convertible top works. The A/C needs to be re-charged. I live near the beach we don't use air conditioning around here.

I have the California Title in Hand. The car has been continuously registered since I bought it in 1995.

Next-gen Chevy Volt will get 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine

Tue, Oct 28 2014

As General Motors gets ready to unveil the new Chevy Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January, it's starting to reveal a few more details about the updated plug-in hybrid. Today should be fruitful on that front, thanks to an event GM is hosting today that focuses on the new Volt, and we've just had the first bit of new: a bigger engine is coming. Since the beginning, the Volt has used a 1.4-liter, four-cylinder engine as a range extender when the battery runs dry. The second-generation model will instead get a slightly larger 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that will be built in Flint, MI. That's a step up from the various engines that have been a part of the 2016 Volt's rumored mills, everything from a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter three-cylinder to a 2.0-liter turbo. The confirmation about the new 1.5-liter powerplant was found in Automotive News, where we also heard again that GM is going to start building the new Volt's electric drive unit in Detroit, moving production up from Mexico. We will have more information on the 2016 Chevy Volt later today.

We really want to use an eCrate to restomod an old GM car. Here's what we'd build

Fri, Oct 30 2020

You hopefully saw the news today of GM's introduction of its Connect and Cruise eCrate motor and battery package, which effectively makes the Bolt's electric motor, battery pack and myriad other elements available to, ah, bolt into a different vehicle. It's the same concept as installing a gasoline-powered crate motor into a classic car, but with electricity and stuff.  This, of course, got us thinking about what we'd stuff the eCrate into. Before we got too ahead of ourselves, however, we discovered that the eCrate battery pack is literally the Bolt EV pack in not only capacity but size and shape. In other words, you need to have enough space in the vehicle to place and/or stuff roughly 60% of a Chevy Bolt's length. It's not a big car, but that's still an awful lot of real estate. There's a reason GM chose to simply plop the pack into the bed and cargo area of old full-size SUVs. Well that, and having a rear suspension beefy enough to handle about 1,000 pounds of batteries.  So after that buzz kill, we still wanted to peruse the GM back catalog for classics we'd love to see transformed into an electric restomod that might be able to swallow all that battery ... maybe ... possibly ... whatever, saws and blow torches exist for a reason.  1971 Buick Riviera Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski: If you’re going to build an electric conversion, why not do it with style? ThatÂ’s why IÂ’m choosing a 1971-1973 Buick Riviera. You know, the one with the big glass boat-tail rear end that ends in a pointy V. Being a rather large vehicle with a big sloping fastback shape, IÂ’m hoping thereÂ’s enough room in the trunk and back seat to pack in the requisite battery pack. That would likely require cutting away some of the metal bulkhead that supports the rear seatback, but not so much that a wee bit of structural bracing couldnÂ’t shore things up. The big 455-cubic-inch Buick V8 up front will obviously have to go. Remember, this was the 1970s, so despite all that displacement, the Riviera only had around 250 horsepower (depending on the year and the trim level). So the electric motorÂ’s 200 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque ought to work as an acceptable replacement.   1982 Chevrolet S10 Associate Editor Byron Hurd: OK, so the name "E-10" is already taken by a completely different truck, but let's not let labels get in the way of a fun idea.

GM earnings rise 1% as buyers pay more for popular pickups

Thu, Aug 1 2019

DETROIT — General Motors said Thursday that higher prices for popular pickup trucks and SUVs helped overcome slowing global sales and profit rose by 1% in the second quarter. The Detroit automaker said it made $2.42 billion, or $1.66 per share, from April through June. Adjusting for restructuring costs, GM made $1.64 per share, blowing by analyst estimates of $1.44. Quarterly revenue fell 2% to $36.06 billion, but still beat estimates. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $35.97 billion. Global sales fell 6% to 1.94 million vehicles led by declines in North America and Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. The company says sales in China were weak, and it expects that to continue through the year. In the United States, customers paid an average of $41,461 for a GM vehicle during the quarter, an increase of 2.2%, as buyers went for loaded-out pickups and SUVs, according to the Edmunds.com auto pricing site. The U.S. is GM's most profitable market. Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara said she expects the strong pricing to continue, especially as GM rolls out a diesel pickup and new heavy-duty trucks in the second half of the year. "We think the fundamentals do remain strong, especially in the truck market," she said, adding that strength in the overall economy and aging trucks now on the road should help keep the trend going. Light trucks accounted for 83.1% of GM's sales in the quarter, and pickup truck sales rose 8.5% as GM transitioned to new models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, according to Edmunds, which provides content to The Associated Press. As usual, GM made most of its money in North America, reporting $3 billion in pretax earnings. International operations including China broke even, while the company spent $300 million on its GM Cruise automated vehicle unit. Its financial arm made $500 million in pretax income. Suryadevara said GM saw $700 million in savings during the quarter from restructuring actions announced late last year that included cutting about 8,000 white-collar workers through layoffs, buyouts and early retirements. The company also announced plans to close five North American factories, shedding another 6,000 jobs. About 3,000 factory workers in the U.S. whose jobs were eliminated at four plants will be placed at other factories, but they could have to relocate. GM expects the restructuring to generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in annual cost savings by the end of this year.
