     1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 4spd, 76,000 miles, red with black interior. 350, close-ratio 4spd, 3:73 rear-axle ratio. The original owner had kept the vehicle until 1998 before selling to the gentleman that I purchased it from. The car is absolutely 100% rust-free with all it's original metal and paint/decals. All numbers-matching. The interior is 100% original and in excellent condition right down to the Delco AM/FM cassette radio and GM floor mats. There have never been any added tachs, gauges, etc. ever. I have documentation including the build sheet, owner's manual, sales agreement, tire/battery warranty, etc. This has been an adult-owned, well cared for Z28.

     The previous owner had a very high-dollar custom 406 small-block professionally built by "A&R Racing" in Virginia. He had removed the perfect-running 350 and preserved it. The engine swap, Griffin radiator, aluminum drive shaft, full flowmaster 3 in. exhaust, and Competition Engineering "slide-a-link" traction product have been the only modifications to the car. Everything had been very tastefully done purely for improved driveability and performance deserving of the Z28 name. The previous owner bought the car to drive and felt that the car was too sharp looking to have a low horsepower 350 under the hood. Therefore, he upgraded the engine rather than take away from the originality of the 350 by adding bolt-ons. The original 350 would just need to be cleaned/detailed and would be ready to reinstall, if so desired. The car can be easily returned back to it's original state quickly, right down to the original drive shaft and factory exhaust with the original GM catalytic converter which are also included with the car. I had also taken it upon myself to add color-keyed Z28 wheels to enhance the appearance. I have also saved the factory gold Z28 wheels which I will also include.

    I have seen many F-bodies of this generation and can honestly say with 100% confidence that this is one of the nicest all-original cars I've seen. As stated above, there have been NO wrecks, NO rust, and the body is 100% original with every panel it left the assembly plant with. The doors open and close beautifully and with ease. There are a couple of dings/imperfections, however I chose not to repair them as I wanted to keep the paint and body as original as possible. Needed repairs...the air cleaner stud on the carburetor will need replacement. I have included links below for a FaceBook photo album as well as a walk-around video. The video shows how easily the car starts, how it sounds, how easily the doors open/close, etc. in order to give the most accurate representation of the car possible. This car is TURN-KEY....buy with confidence.

    Here are some specs on the 406 engine by A&R;

         The engine makes a very honest 510-hp and 490 ft-lbs of torque @6800 rpm. The engine has only the best components; custom solid camshaft, internally balanced forged callies 4340 crankshaft, 4340 forged 6" rods with floated pins, custom forged 10.5:1 flat-top pistons with ultra-lite pins...the list goes on. Many hours were spent on the Canfield aluminum cylinder heads and the Team-G intake manifold topped with a blueprinted Holley from the Carb Shop in California. The radiator is a Griffen custom-fit "use your original GM top support" radiator with two rows of 1.25 intubing that allows the engine to maintain 160 degrees. Everything has been done in as close to factory manor as possible right down to the 3" custom-bent flowmaster exhaust. NOTHING on this car was disturbed or hacked whatsoever !

      Original parts included with sale of the car;

- RPO code LM1 350 4bbl V8 engine

- Complete original exhaust including factory GM catalytic converter

- Original gold Z28 turbine wheels with BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires

- Original air cleaner assembly

- Original driveshaft

        This is a true collector car with documentation, all original parts included, and is fun to drive. Please feel free to ask any questions before placing a bid. I will reply to all inquiries as promptly as possible. I strongly encourage any interested parties to inspect the vehicle in person. A non-refundable deposit of $500 will be due within 48 hours of auction end and balance due no later than 7 days after auction end (unless other arrangements have been agreed upon by both parties). I do not have the means to deliver the vehicle, therefore the buyer is solely responsible for any/all costs and arrangements associated with transport of the car and all included parts. Please contact me with ANY questions before placing a bid as any miscommunications can be costly and time-consuming for all parties involved. Vehicle being sold AS-IS with no warranties of any kind, express or implied. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is listed for sale locally. Thank you for looking.

GM says EVs are the future — but trucks are going to take it there

Fri, Jan 11 2019

In the PowerPoint deck for the General Motors Capital Markets Day presentation, one of the more disturbing things comes early on, during GM President Mark Reuss' initial remarks, in an area where he is discussing the company's overall strength in trucks. The point being made is that GM has a truck for all and sundry. And there it is, a phrase on a slide that should send chills up the spines of those who still pine for the old Bob Seger "Like a Rock" Silverado ads: "Little bit country. Little bit rock 'n' roll." That's right. Donny and Marie. Somehow the Denis Leary snark in the F-150 ads is all the more appealing. The Capital Markets Day presentation was chock full of observations about electrification and automation (Reuss and CEO Mary Barra both noted that the corporation's vision is one of "Zero Crashes. Zero Emissions. Zero Congestion." Dan Ammann talked about the progress being made at Cruise Automation; Reuss rolled out the plan for an array of electrified vehicles, with a luxury EV and a compact SUV being the "Centroid Entries" for the modular bases of many others). But it is worth noting that there is no getting away from the power of pickups in the U.S. market, as that was the central topic in Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara's comments, with "Truck Franchise" being flanked by "Key Financial Priorities" and "Financial Outlook." Clearly, to gloss the old phrase, the truck segment is where the money is. Suryadevra enumerated how the truck segment is significantly different than other types of light vehicles. Among her points: GM, Ford and FCA have more than 90% of market share. The truck parc has been growing and aging over the past 10 years. Customers are fiercely loyal to the segment—as in 70% of truck buyers are truck buyers. A good number of the vehicles are for commercial use (40 percent). Trucks are "less prone to. . .mobility disruption." Trucks offer high margins. Translaton: The segment is one that they're solidly positioned in. There are lots of old trucks on the road that will need to be replaced by new ones. Perhaps buyers may switch from a Sierra to a Canyon, but it will be a truck. If your livelihood depends on that type of vehicle, even if gas prices go up or the economy begins to go south, you're going to stick with it. Most of the country isn't San Francisco, so trucks will continue to be essential. And, well, they're profitable in the extreme.

2017 Honda Ridgeline enters the landscape block war

Sun, Jun 12 2016

In the test of pickup truck beds, if steel is apples and aluminum is oranges, Honda wants you to know that composites are pineapples. Chevy recently performed a test in which its own Silverado was pitted against its most obvious competitor, the Ford F-150. A loader dropped over 800 pounds of landscaping blocks into the two truck beds, and Ford's aluminum bed ended up with more damage than Chevy's steel bed. Check that test out right here. Honda apparently wasn't content to let Chevy throw stones alone. In a new test, the Japanese automaker replicated the block-drop test using its brand-new Ridgeline truck, which features a composite bed. As you'll see in the video above, there was very little damage to the high-strength plastic bed of the Ridgeline after a similar load of landscaping blocks were dropped from a loader. Without being on hand at any of these tests, we can't say with any degree of certainty that they match up in severity. But they all look pretty similar, and this is actually a test that Honda performed in front of journalists ( ourselves included) earlier this year. We visually inspected the composite bed of a Ridgeline after a demonstration just like the one on video above, and can confirm that there was basically no damage to Honda's truck. Chevy went an extra step by flinging a heavy toolbox into the Silverado and F-150; Honda didn't match that particular test. Does any of this matter? That's up to truck buyers and owners to decide, naturally, but we doubt anyone would actually dump a load like this into their own truck. And it's also worth noting that a heavy-duty spray-on bedliner would probably minimize damage to the metal surface below, whether steel or aluminum. If nothing else, it's memorable marketing. Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado

Sat, Oct 9 2021

During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
