Of the 2,311 Yellow Orange Z28s that were produced, this maybe the finest one available to purchase. It is most
definitely unique as I’ve added a CROSS RAM dual four intake and on it sits two specially modified NASCAR 390 cfm
Holley carbs. A true car enthusiasts dream vehicle!

For the past decade, we have been restoring and building 2nd Gen Trans Ams and some we’ve built to a level far
beyond what the factory was allowed to produce. Five of our builds have reached the status that we’ve named and
numbered “Super Bandits” and they are awesome vehicles to own and drive. During the years of building hp TAs,
I’ve thought about restoring/building a 2nd gen Z28 to the Super Car status and what I’m offering for sale is
our prototype “Super Z”.

Below are a few words of what we have restored on the car over the many years of my son and I owning it and you can
view the pictures of the finished results.

Exterior / Body /Frame

The hood, fenders, bumper covers, mirrors and trunk spoiler were removed and painted separately. The front frame
received a new set of upgraded poly body bushings and it was properly aligned to the body. Upper A arm bushings
were replaced along with the sway bar bushings. The door hinge pins/bushings were replaced and the doors were
properly aligned. The original Yellow Orange paint was stripped and minor dings were repaired. All parts were
primed and then block sanded multiple times in preparation for top coat paint to be applied. Similar to how Mark
Worman at Graveyard Carz paints his high end restored vehicles, this one was sprayed in base clear twice with a few
years allowed before the 2nd spraying was done. This makes for a very nice smooth paint that will remain great
looking for many years. The recently sprayed 2nd coating of base Yellow Orange and clear was Trizact wet sanded and
buffed to a shine.

After spraying was completed, new window felts were installed along with door and body weather stripping.
Windshield moldings were stripped, painted and installed. New decals were then applied and the custom Phoenix
Graphix hood scoop decal looks as though this ’78 could have come from the factory with the upgraded ’80 hood
scoop.

Engine / Under Hood

The engine in this Stage 1 Super Z is a one of a kind with twin Holley modified NASCAR 390 cfm carbs sitting on top
of the Offenhauser cross ram intake manifold. I’ve tuned the carbs to produce great throttle response and you
will find the engine to pull strong when you open all 8 barrels up! The camshaft chosen for our Stage 1 engine
package offers you greatly improved hp while still being fine to use on an AC equipped vehicle. Long tube headers
and a true dual exhaust keeps things following out easily.

To keep things nice and cool always, I’ve installed a Hayden severe duty fan clutch and a 4 core hd aluminum
radiator. The factory AC system had an upgraded compressor installed and the system was filled with the new 134
refrigerant. All under hood areas were cleaned and painted the correct factory trim black color and even the hood
hinges were sprayed in a color that replicated the factory look to them.

Trans / Differential

The BW ST10 4 speed manual trans has been rebuilt and upgraded/modified with the gears that were used in the ’80
and up Z28s. First gear now is the super low 3.42 ratio which makes it great for getting off of the line. The
differential is a single trac and has been improved by installing a set of 2.73 gears to lower the engine rpm at
hwy cruising speed. Now with the super low 1st gear in the trans and hwy gears in the rear, it is great off of the
line while being a pleasure to drive for extended periods on the hwy!

Brakes

The brake system is all working properly and the font pads have been upgraded to ceramic to reduce dust build up on
the wheels.

Wheels / Tires

The 15 x 7 factory aluminum wheels were cleaned, painted the correct gold and then polished. The tires still have
good tread left on them to enjoy some more miles of driving.

Interior

The floor has had new underlay insulation and carpet installed along with new sill plates. Rear shelf package tray
seat covers and door panels have all been replaced along with the headliner and sun visors – but that was 6 years
ago so not brand new at the moment. All dash gauges work properly. A new high power radio and speakers were
installed in the rear shelf and in the center front area.

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.

Callaway rolls out radical Corvette C7 GT3-R at Hockenheim

Wed, Oct 7 2015

Leave it to Callaway to take a badass Corvette and make it even more so. Case in point: the new Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R you see here. It made its big debut this past weekend during the season finale for the ADAC GT Masters series at the legendary Hockenheimring – the on-again, off-again home of the German Grand Prix. Why in Germany, you ask? Because that's where Callaway Competition is based. The racing division got its start in Heilbronn as Woeher & Ciccone back in 1985. It joined with US-based Callaway Cars in 1988 to distribute its modified Corvettes in Europe, and branched out into constructing racing cars in 1994. And this is its latest project. Designed in partnership between Callaway Competition in Germany and Canadian designer Paul Deutschman, the new GT3-R replaces the previous C6-based Z06.R GT3. It packs a 6.2-liter V8 pumping 600 horsepower through an X-Trac six-speed sequential gearbox. And as you can see, it sure looks the part. Callaway will be offering the new GT3-R to privateer teams for entry in a variety of racing series around the world. But it'll also be fielding the example you see here, sponsored by Whelen Engineering that – like Callaway Cars – is based in Connecticut. Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R World Debut at Hockenheim October 3, 2015 Hockenheim, Germany – October 3, 2015 – This weekend's ADAC GT Masters Season Finale was the backdrop for the unveiling of Callaway Competition's new Callaway Corvette C7 GT3-R. Following a brief presentation to media and invited guests, the successor of the C6-based Callaway Z06.R GT3 was displayed to the public for the first time on October 3, 2015 at the Hockenheimring in Germany. Constructors of GT race cars since 1990 and based in Leingarten Germany, Callaway Competition possesses a wealth of experience, technical know-how and a broad network of specialized professional partners. These elements were crucial to conduct such a large undertaking. After nearly two years of comprehensive planning, intensive development and expert fabrication of vehicle components, Callaway Competition completed the first C7 GT3-R just a few weeks ago. Its striking design comes as a result of the collaboration between Canadian designer Paul Deutschman and team owners Giovanni Ciccone and Ernst Wohr. Mike Gramke, Uwe Hoffmann, Florian Mohring and Andre Zanke were also heavily involved in the vehicle's development.

GM pauses 3.0-liter turbodiesel production due to a supplier shortage

Mon, Aug 30 2021

General Motors confirmed it has temporarily stopped taking orders for trucks and SUVs equipped with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel six-cylinder engine. It blamed the last-minute pause on a supplier-related shortage. Website TFL Truck first reported the news, and a representative from General Motors quickly confirmed it. The spokesperson explained the issue is due to a "temporary part shortage" and added that production will resume "as soon as possible," meaning the Duramax engine (which is called LM2 internally) is not going away permanently. Additional details are not available, so we don't know if the issue is related to the ongoing chip shortage. Rather than delay deliveries and create a backlog, General Motors is reportedly asking its dealers to encourage buyers who want a turbodiesel engine to instead select either the 5.3-liter V8 or the 6.2-liter V8, depending on the model selected. Both are gasoline-powered units. There's no word yet on when Duramax production will resume. The shortage affects several models, including Chevrolet's Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado 1500 and GMC's variants of these trucks. Cadillac's Escalade is temporarily diesel-less as well. Heavy Duty variants of the Silverado and the Sierra are not affected because they're powered by a different Duramax engine with eight cylinders. Motorists seeking a full-size SUV powered by an efficient turbodiesel engine are temporarily out of options because the Tahoe/Yukon and the Suburban/Yukon XL had the segment to themselves. The Duramax was surprisingly popular, too: in May 2021, GM Authority reported that the turbodiesel straight-six represented 8% of Suburban sales and 6% of Tahoe sales. Installed in a rear-wheel-drive Tahoe, the engine returns 21 mpg in the city, 28 mpg on the highway, and 24 mpg in a combined cycle, figures that make the body-on-frame behemoth more efficient than the unibody, front-wheel-drive Chevrolet Blazer that's 20 inches shorter and approximately 1,700 pounds lighter.
