New recall issued in 2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra brake software saga
Tue, Feb 11 2020General Motors (GM) has issued a new recall for select 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks that aims to resolve a faulty fix for a previous recall. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign No. 20V055000, a software update for the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) could cause the electronic brake assist to be disabled. The NHTSA first launched a recall for 463,995 Silverados, Sierras, and Cadillac CT6es on December 12, 2019 due to a software issue in the electronic brake control module (EBCM) that could disable the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS). As a response and resolution to that recall, GM began to reprogram the software in affected vehicles. GM later learned that the fix was creating a different problem. The installed software had its own error that was disabling the electronic brake assist. If customers see “Service Brake Assist” or “Service ECS" diagnostic warnings, they should park the vehicle and have it towed to a dealership, GM warns. While GM was going through the process of testing, pinpointing the issue, determining action and working with the NHTSA, safety experts have criticized Chevrolet and GMC for not reacting promptly and appropriately. According to the recall, 148,055 are now affected, all of which do not meet the standards of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems." To fix the braking issue, GM will once again reprogram the software. GM began notifying owners of the recall on February 10, 2020. Related Video:
Chevy gives Camaro Red, Black Accents for SEMA
Mon, Oct 26 2015Just the other day, Chevy announced a series of modified show cars it's planning to bring to SEMA this year. Now it has revealed full details on what could prove the most enticing among them in the form of a pair of Camaros. These new Red Accent and Black Accent editions are based on the new, sixth-generation 2016 Camaro SS. The former starts out as a Camaro SS convertible, done up in silver with red trim inside and out. It's got a leather interior, custom grille, hash-mark fender graphics, blacked-out bowtie badge, and 20-inch alloys. Even the engine is visually enhanced with a red cover. While it was at it, Chevy also dropped the suspension and fitted a new air intake and Brembo front brakes. Joining it is the Black Accent concept, based on a red Camaro SS coupe. As its name suggests, it's got a blacked-out aero kit, bowtie badge, and fuel cover, along with darkened tailllamps and satin black stripes. It also gets a black leather interior and its own set of 20-inch wheels, along with the aforementioned lowering kit, Brembo front brakes, air intake, and red engine cover. The Accent concepts are designed to showcase the extent of the accessories Chevy is offering for the new Camaro, and will be showcased at SEMA alongside modified versions of the Spark, Trax, Malibu, Colorado, and Sierra. Feel free to scope out the gallery above and the details in the press release below. GMC Canyon, Chevy Colorado diesels finally heading to dealers
Fri, Jan 1 2016Customers who have been waiting to receive their diesel-powered Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons should be relived to hear that GM will finally start to ship them out of the Wentzville Assembly Plant. "The highly anticipated 2016 GMC Canyon diesel has begun shipping to dealers," a company spokesperson confirmed to The Detroit News. The trucks originally had a fall launch date, but a final review forced a delay in deliveries. The 2.8-liter four-cylinder diesel in the midsize trucks produces 181 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, and the company touts the engine's low emissions. The Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board even put the mill through extra scrutiny with a real world test in the wake of VW's diesel scandal, and the Duramax passed with no problems. At that time, a Chevy spokesperson told Autoblog that the models' launch was on track. The Duramax engine adds $3,730 to the price of a comparable V6 model, but they're the most fuel-efficient pickups on the market. The EPA estimates the twins at 31 miles per gallon highway, 22 mpg city, and 25 mpg combined in two-wheel drive form and 29/20/23 with four-wheel drive. Buyers likely can't wait to finally experience these pickups after reading a heap of positive reviews. The Colorado diesel recently earned Motor Trend's Truck of the Year award. We also came away impressed with it during our First Drive and liked the Canyon during our Quick Spin. Related Video:
