-9200 GVW..

This truck was a 2 part build. August 2012- The truck was originally built with just under 15K miles on it.  The lift, tires, exterior paint, bed liner, gooseneck, rear receiver, and trailer wiring were done then.

Then at just over 18K miles (February 2013) we did the 6.5, 4L80E, gauges, a/c, lizard skin, interior paint, engine compartment paint, floor mat, insulation, new seat cover, new foam, new sun visors, and color matched all of the interior.

-I bought the truck back from the original customer is August 2013.

I do have the original engine still.  While it is not included in the sale price of the truck, it is for sale.  It has had head studs and .010 thicker head gaskets installed as we were planning a turbo build for the same customer this truck was built for, but we have gone another route.

DRIVE TRAIN:

-6.5L Turbo Diesel from a 1992 Chevrolet
   - Before being put in the truck it had a rebuilt injection pump (with new head and rotor), new glow plugs, new head gaskets, new rear main seal, new front seal, new water pump, new harmonic balancer, re sealed oil pan, re sealed valve covers, new thermostat  and new oil fill cap installed.., starts easy, runs great, no leaks,
    -New Gates belt and hoses
    -New belt tensioner
    - The glow plugs are AC Delco 60G's and are run off the civilian style glow plug relay
    - Polyurethane engine mounts
    -New Starter

-Custom Diamond Eye 4 inch exhaust.

-It is 3 inch from the turbo to just behind the transfer case. then is 4 inch the rest of the way out

-4l80E 4 speed automatic with over drive.  From the same truck as the engine.  Rebuilt with new torque converter before install. Operates flawlessly.  No leaks
- There is also an additional heavy duty aftermarket cooler.
-The transmission is run off of the factory 1992 TCM. The diagnostic port is located inside the can underneath the glovebox. (See pics)

-NP208 2 speed (high/low) chain driven transfer case.  Shifts through all ranges fine. no leaks, output shaft seals and fluid new at time of build
-The original  adapter was machined to properly for the 4L80E housing

-Dana 60 front axle:

-4.56 Gears, Trac Lok limited slip differential
-Wheel bearings checked and repacked
- Axle u-joints and driveshaft u-joints nice and tight
-New front brake pads at time of build
-Warn Style style 3/4 turn lock outs
-New Fluid at time of build

-Corporate 14 bolt rear axle, 4.56 gears, Detroit Locker

-New fluid at time of build
-New rear brake shoes at time of build
-Emergency brakes work as they should

Service brakes work great front and back.  No pulling or dragging.

-Tires and Wheels

315/75/16 (35x12.50) Nitto Terra Grapplers mounted on the ProComp Extreme Rock crawler Series 98  16x8 Black Steel wheels
The matching spare has never been used

Exterior Lighting:

-The truck has LMC's aftermarket heavy duty harness so it pulls the headlights power right from the battery..  This helps eliminate the common melted fuse block and makes sure your lights get the full voltage all the time.
-Wagner BL Headlights.  Much brighter and whiter light.
-Aftermarket 55w off road lights (flood style)
-all other bulbs were replaced with new stock bulbs.

-LED license plate lights

-The front side maker lenses and rear tail light lenses were replaced with new aftermarket ones

-All Blackout lights work.  All four bumper lights and the drive light

Interior lighting:

All factory interior lighting works as it should, as do the lights on the aftermarket gauges (dim along with the instrument lights).

Alternator:
New Alternator

Batteries:

The batteries were new in August 2012. The are heavy duty group 31's.

Instrumentation/Switches:

The Gen 1 dummy light still lights when the ignition is turned on and goes off when the truck is running and alternator charging.
The 4wd indicator light works as it should.
The Wait to start light still functions properly.  It was wired into the civilian style relay, so it is timed correctly.

The Gen 2 dummy light, coolant temp, and oil pressure dummy lights have been disabled.  I did leave the wiring for the oil and coolant switches if someone wanted to ad those down the road.

The fuel gauge works
The speedometer is only a few miles per hour off.

The truck also has a mechanical boost, pyrometer (EGT), and voltmeter.  They are Phantom series by Autometer. The oil pressure and coolant temperature gauges are by  Autogage .

All factory switches work properly. service lights, wiper, and blackout lights.

Glass/Weaherstripping:

All glass is in good shape.

The front windshield has been replaced with one that has the shading up top and built in antenna for the radio.  it also has a new seal and lock.

The vent windows have had new seals installed.

The windows have been tinted as well.  The front doors are 35%.  The back glass is 20%

The doors had new GM window channel weatherstrip installed and new GM window seals installed inside and out

The glass in both mirrors are good.  There are also blind spot mirrors.

Upholstery and trim:

The seat had new bottom foam installed and was recovered with new vinyl and then recolored to the factory Bronze metallic.

The sun visors are new and were color matched as well.

The original door panels, arm rests, and kick panels were re-colored as well so everything matched perfect

The dash pad was/is a brand new GM (not a reproduction or NOS.  Bought new August 2012 when the truck was built) unit that was re-colored the factory Bronze metallic

The seat belts are new.

New floor mat and insulation.

Under hood insulation

Paint/Coatings Interior and Exterior:

The truck has been repainted inside, outside, and in the engine compartment.

The exterior was sanded and primed using a nice Urethane primer.  Then sanded again before painting.

The exterior and interior were both painted with GCI's Current Issue Lusterless Olive Drab

The bumpers and grille were then blacked out.

Last for the exterior was the stenciling which includes the bumper star, tire pressure and fuel type.

Prior to painting the interior, it was sanded and prepped for the Lizard Skin, bed liner, and paint..

2 coats paint inside and 3 outside.

The  engine bay was Lizard Skinned inside of the fenders, fender wells, core support, firewall and underside of hood.  It does help with noise reduction and heat control.  It was then painted with GCI's Flat Black

The interior was bed lined along the floor front to back, up to the kick panels and halfway up the back of the cab.  Same bed liner as used in the bed.

The bed has a nice spray in bed liner by SEM as well as a nice thick rubber mat.

The frame and undercarriage were in excellent shape and to preserve them they were coated with a petroleum based undercoating by Rusfre front to back top to bottom.  The front and rear inner fenders/wheel wells were just recoated.

Next-gen Chevy Volt will get 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine

Tue, Oct 28 2014

As General Motors gets ready to unveil the new Chevy Volt at the Detroit Auto Show in January, it's starting to reveal a few more details about the updated plug-in hybrid. Today should be fruitful on that front, thanks to an event GM is hosting today that focuses on the new Volt, and we've just had the first bit of new: a bigger engine is coming. Since the beginning, the Volt has used a 1.4-liter, four-cylinder engine as a range extender when the battery runs dry. The second-generation model will instead get a slightly larger 1.5-liter, four-cylinder engine that will be built in Flint, MI. That's a step up from the various engines that have been a part of the 2016 Volt's rumored mills, everything from a 1.0-liter or 1.2-liter three-cylinder to a 2.0-liter turbo. The confirmation about the new 1.5-liter powerplant was found in Automotive News, where we also heard again that GM is going to start building the new Volt's electric drive unit in Detroit, moving production up from Mexico. We will have more information on the 2016 Chevy Volt later today.

GM CEO Mary Barra predicts mass electrification will take decades

Tue, Jun 9 2020

General Motors is allocating a substantial amount of money to the development of electric technology, but Mary Barra, the firm's CEO, conceded that battery-powered cars won't fully replace their gasoline-burning counterparts for several decades. She stressed the shift is ongoing, but she hinted it will be slower than many assume. "We believe the transition will happen over time," affirmed Barra on "Leadership Live with David Rubenstein," a talk show aired by Bloomberg Television. She added that not every car will be electric in 2040. "It will happen in a little bit longer period, but it will happen," she told the host. She was presumably talking about the United States market; the situation is markedly different in Europe and in China, where strict government regulations (and even stricter ones on the horizon) are accelerating the shift towards electric cars. On the surface, it doesn't look like General Motors has much invested in electrification; the only battery-powered model it sells in America in 2020 is the Chevrolet Bolt (pictured), which undeniably remains a niche vehicle. Sales totaled 16,418 units in 2019, meaning the Corvette beat it by about 1,500 sales. In comparison, Cadillac sold 35,424 examples of the aging last-generation Escalade during the same time period. And yet, the company isn't giving up. It has numerous electric models in the pipeline including a slightly larger version of the aforementioned Bolt, the much-hyped GMC Hummer pickup, and an electric crossover assigned to the Cadillac brand. These models (and others) will use the Ultium battery technology that General Motors is currently developing. Its engineers are also working on a modular platform capable of underpinning a wide variety of cars. Bringing these innovations to the market is a Herculean task. EVs may not take over for decades, but Barra and her team must believe their 2% market share will increase significantly in the coming years if they're approving these programs. Autonomous technology is even costlier, more complicated, and more time-consuming to develop. Barra nonetheless expects to see the first General Motors-built driverless vehicles on the road by 2025. "I definitely think it will happen within the next five years. Our Cruise team is continuing to develop technology so it's safer than a human driver. I think you'll see it clearly within five years," she said on the same talk show. Her statement is vague but realistic.

Best and Worst GM Cars

Thu, Apr 7 2022

Oh yes, because we just love receiving angry letters from devoted Pontiac Grand Am enthusiasts, we have decided to go there. Based on a heated group Slack conversation, the topic came up about the best and worst GM cars. First of all time, and then those currently on sale, and then just mostly a rambling discussion of Oldsmobiles our parents and grandparents owned (or engineered). Eventually, three of us made the video above. Like it? Maybe we can make more. Many awesome GM cars are definitely going unmentioned here, so please let us know your bests and worsts in the comments below. Mostly, it's important to note that this post largely exists as a vehicle for delivering the above video that dives far deeper into GM's greatest hits and biggest flops, specifically those from the 1980s and 1990s. What you'll find below is a collection of our editors identifying a best current and best-of-all-time choice, plus a worst current and worst-of-all-time choice. Comprehensive it is not, but again, comments. -Senior Editor James Riswick Best Current GM Vehicle Chevrolet Corvette We were flying by the seats of our pants a bit in this first outing and my notes were similarly extemporaneous. When it came time to tie it all together on camera, I failed spectacularly. Thank the maker for text, because this gives me the opportunity to perhaps slightly better explain my convoluted reasoning. I chose the C8 Corvette because it's simply overwhelmingly good, and it's merely the baseline from which this generation of Corvette will be expanded.  While the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing (more on that in a minute) is an amazing snapshot of GM's current performance standing and its little sibling so enraptured me that I went out and bought one, their existence is fleeting. Corvette will live on; forced-induction Cadillac sport sedans, not so much. So while all three are amazing machines when viewed in a vacuum, the Corvette stands above them as both a reflection of GM's current performance credentials and a signpost of what is to come. So, given the choice between the C8 and the 5V-Blackwing right now, I'd choose the C8. In 10 years, when the Blackwing is no longer in production and Corvette is in its 9th generation? Well, that might be a different story. Now, just pretend I said something even remotely that coherent when we get to the part of the video where I try to make an argument for the 5-V Blackwing as best GM car I've ever driven. Or just laugh at me while I ramble incoherently.
