With just three owners from new, this 1964 Chevrolet C10 pickup is a wonderful example of a nicely maintained old truck with just a few smart upgrades to keep it usable today. It's still got its original six-cylinder engine, original wood bed, and an interesting gold interior that's a refreshing change from basic black.
It looks like this truck has had just one repaint in its fifty years of life, and the workmanship was careful to keep it looking authentic. It's not too shiny, not too perfect, but it does look right on the vintage sheetmetal. Note that this is an unusual stepside with a long bed, giving it those wonderfully curved rear fenders but a bed big enough to carry just about anything home. It still has that honest, hard-working look that only ancient tools like this can earn, but you can also show up at the local cruise night in it and more than a few folks will give it an approving nod. 1964 Chevy trucks also got that neat flying buttress trim on the cab, and those shiny chrome bumpers, C10 emblemsand simple egg-crate grille are brand new, so it sparkles where it matters. And as I mentioned, the wood in the bed is original and while we're used to seeing beautifully stained and varnished timbers, this is closer to how it looked from the factory when it was new.
The original interior was removed and every square inch of the cab's inner sheetmetal surfaces was covered in DynaMat to help control noise and heat. Once that was done, a new gold interior was installed, and it's nice that they kept the unusual original color rather that anonymizing the truck with black or something dull like that. The difference all that sound-deadening material makes is astounding, with the inside of this 50-year-old truck as quiet as some of today's pickups. An under-dash Vintage Air A/C unit was installed at some point using period components under the hood and R12 refrigerant, so you can chill it like a meat locker in the compact cab. Thick, durable floor coverings also help with noise and heat, as well as giving the interior a more luxurious feel than the basic rubber mat that it would have worn originally. Gauges look great behind that single lens, which has very sharp lettering, and there's a newer AM/FM stereo radio in the dash.
As a 3-owner truck that's spent its life as personal transport, the 230 cubic inch inline-six was more than adequate for the job. It's still there, nicely detailed and looking almost factory fresh. Chevy used light blue on truck engines, and while most of the visible stuff is either A/C-related or part of the big air cleaner, it has a very crisp, well-detailed look overall. When the engine was rebuilt, hardened valve seats were added to the heads, so it's happy on modern unleaded fuels and there's a fresh radiator up front to cope with the added heat of the A/C system. The front suspension was also rebuilt, but the rest of the undercarriage shows you that three careful owners and a lifetime in Texas tends to keep things nice and clean. A newer single exhaust system gives it the right 6-cylinder grumble and it carries 235/75/15 whitewall radials on matching steel wheels with new hubcaps.
Honest trucks like this are growing in popularity and with a great history behind it, it's easy to see why this one was so beloved for two generations. Call today!

General Motors is shutting down its factory in Russia's second largest city, St. Petersburg, from the middle of March until the middle of May as the country's currency, the ruble, continues to give economists fits. The ruble's value has plunged due not only to western sanctions, but a precipitous fall in oil prices. We knew these factors were already impacting the auto industry there, as Ford reported in its 2014 earnings statement, and now they're forcing GM to cut production at the factory, shown above, that is responsible for production of the Chevrolet Cruze and Opel Astra. Meanwhile, Automotive News is citing Russian outlet Kommersant as saying that GM has hiked its prices in the country by an average of 20 percent over the past two months. While a GM spokesman confirmed the St. Petersburg plant would be shut down for the two-month span reported by Kommersant and AN, he would not confirm the price increase. The 2020 Ford Explorer has finally landed, and if history serves as an indicator, it should be bigger than sliced bread. And people sure love themselves some sliced bread. This new Explorer may look familiar on the outside, but beneath the skin is a radically new rear-drive platform related to the Ford Mustang (as opposed to a front-drive platform related to the Ford Taurus and a Volvo from the 1990s). Turbocharged four- and six-cylinder engines now exclusively rest under its hood, which as you'll see below, both better anything its competitors offer. Ah, but if you're curious to know how the new 2020 Explorer compares to its various three-row family crossover rivals, take a look at the chart below where we stack it up against the 2019 Chevrolet Traverse, 2019 Honda Pilot, 2020 Hyundai Palisade, 2019 Subaru Ascent and 2019 Toyota Highlander. There are others of course (Mazda CX-9, Dodge Durango, GMC Acadia, VW Atlas), but we only had so much room on the chart, and these were the newest and/or most likely to be cross-shopped with the new Explorer. Engine specs and towing Although the Traverse's V6 just nips it on horsepower, the 2020 Explorer's base 2.3-liter "EcoBoost" turbocharged four-cylinder engine smokes it on torque. Therefore, "best-in-class" power seems like a fair claim from Ford. That there's also a 365-horsepower turbo V6 available, plus a hybrid and even-more powerful ST model on the way shows that Ford isn't kidding around under the hood. Curb weight also seems competitive for the segment. In terms of drivetrain, the Explorer is the only member of this particular group to come standard with rear-wheel drive (2.3-liter only). The Durango is the only other three-row, non-luxury crossover to do so. This is significant for two reasons: First, you could potentially do a power slide in an Explorer. Second, and more important, those in the Snowbelt will have to opt for all-wheel drive (it comes standard with the 3.0-liter). By contrast, a set of winter tires will probably do the job just fine if you want to save some money and gas by sticking with its rivals' standard front-wheel drive. Well, except for the Subaru Ascent — that's standard with AWD. In terms of towing, the Explorer takes the cake with as much as 5,300 pounds for the four-cylinder and 5,600 pounds for the V6. Everything else tops out at 5,000, though again, the Durango is capable of besting them all thanks to its Hemi V8 engine option.

You probably have that friend who always says Porsche wrong, or maybe it's someone who keeps reminding you it's actually two syllables. Whichever side of the pronunciation debate you fall on, you'll find someone to root for in the video above. And before you ask, this was all the video team's idea.
