1963 Chevrolet C-10 Long Box Fleetside hotrod truck

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD BEFORE BIDDING.

READ THIS PART FIRST!

The engine on this truck runs quiet and has good power but will need to be looked at soon.

I think one of the intake manifold gaskets needs replaced. When I got the truck a few weeks ago the oil had a tiny bit of water in it and I was told it had just started doing that. I changed the oil and filter with 10w-40 and it has not fouled again. The compression seems good, the spark plugs are not showing signs of a blown head gasket, the exhaust does not steam on either side, the radiator does not bubble or gurgle and is not getting oil into it but the valve covers will steam a little bit from the breathers when it's running. The valvetrain itself looks clean. I don't believe the leak is into the combustion chambers.

From what I've researched online I believe it's one of the intake gaskets under the intake manifold that needs replaced and as far as I can tell it's a small leak.

I just noticed a bolt is missing from the manifold and that could possibly have everything to do with it. Replacing the missing bolt and snugging down the aluminum manifold might solve the problem. I'm moving and don't have time to work on the truck.

I have a brand new full engine gasket kit that goes with the truck which will cover both head gaskets, intake gaskets, exhaust and water pump, and pretty much every other engine gasket you'd need to just replace them all on the top end.

The truck is parked so it is not being driven right now while I work on moving.

The Details:

Washington state Horseless Carriage permanent antique vehicle plates. (never needs tags, similar to Antique or Special Oregon plates) Handy if you live in Washington state.

4 speed floor shift - gears work good, transmission is quiet, clutch feels tight and seems to work good, big stupid ratrod shifter handle for laughs

V8 - Unsure what displacement it is, factory aluminum 4bbl intake, factory paint looks to be medium blue. Unsure if it is a 305 or 350. I was told it is a 283 but I don't think that's correct. The Engine runs quiet and will idle nice and slow. It makes good power and pulls well.

Headers

New dual exhaust with glass packs, sounds great. Not over loud but a nice classic hotrod sound.

Cab has one tiny rust hole in the floor on the passenger side but overall it is decent otherwise.

At some point the cab was undercoated, looks to be factory.

Small dents and dings here and there on the body and bed but no major damage.

Frame and undercarriage looks great, greasy but not rusted, looks straight.

Door corners and fender lower corners have old rust repairs (common) but overall the body looks solid.

All the glass is in uncracked condition. Window rubbers and fuzzies are old but easy to find replacements online.

Windows roll up and down, wind wings open and close

A two speed electric fan run by a toggle switch on the dash has replaced the clutch engine fan. It moves a LOT more air than the stock fan and is quiet on low speed even at idle.

Lowering springs, not cut coils, so it has a nice stance.

New pirelli tires with full tread.

Chevy six lug steel rally wheels with chrome beauty rings

The headlights and stop lights work. Turn Signals are not hooked up (I use hand signals anyway :)

Chrome drip rail 'peep' mirrors on the doors.

The truck has a heater and hoses are ran to it but I don't think it is wired up.

Unsure if the wipers are wired up but they are complete.

Steering feels tight. I have not noticed it wandering.

An entire spare bed box is included with better inner fenders and a bit straighter bed sides.

Neither bed has a tailgate. Bed floor is two plywood sheets.

It drives and runs well and should be just fine with the engine gaskets replaced.

TL;DR This is a cool hotrod truck, dual exhaust, headers, V8, 4 speed, runs, drives, ENGINE NEEDS A GASKET, comes with gaskets that are needed. If you live in Portland Oregon or Washington State I would drive it home and spend a weekend replacing the gaskets and you will have a great running old hotrod truck however driving it or not is up to the buyer.

Motor Trend puts Chevy Camaro Z28 and Porsche 911 GT3 Head 2 Head

Mon, Dec 29 2014

Motor Trend admits, "This is an unfair comparison." But that doesn't make it any less fun to watch when they pit a Camaro Z/28 against the Porsche 911 GT3. The former has a 7.0-liter V8 with 505 horsepower and 481 pound-feet of torque shifted through a six-speed manual. The latter has a 3.8-liter flat-six with 475 hp and 324 lb-ft shifted through a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. Yet those are only the little disparities – the big disparities are mass and money: the Camaro weighs 3,882 pounds and costs $76,150 as-tested, the Porsche weighs 3,267 pounds and costs $145,785. But they're both about hardcore performance, so MT takes them out on the street, to the drag strip, to the parking lot for figure eights and a skidpad test, and finally to Big Willow for Randy Pobst to give his professional assessment. Remember when a lotta people spent a lotta time debating Pirates vs. Ninjas? This is like that, only it's the "haul-ass good-time car" vs. the "track surgeon." Enjoy the debate in the video.

IIHS: High numbers of drivers treat partially automated cars as fully self-driving

Tue, Oct 11 2022

WASHINGTON — Drivers using advanced driver assistance systems like Tesla Autopilot or General Motors Super Cruise often treat their vehicles as fully self-driving despite warnings, a new study has found. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), an industry funded group that prods automakers to make safer vehicles, said on Tuesday a survey found regular users of Super Cruise, Nissan/Infiniti ProPILOT Assist and Tesla Autopilot "said they were more likely to perform non-driving-related activities like eating or texting while using their partial automation systems than while driving unassisted." The IIHS study of 600 active users found 53% of Super Cruise, 42% of Autopilot and 12% of ProPILOT Assist owners "said that they were comfortable treating their vehicles as fully self-driving." About 40% of users of Autopilot and Super Cruise — two systems with lockout features for failing to pay attention — reported systems had at some point switched off while they were driving and would not reactivate. "The big-picture message here is that the early adopters of these systems still have a poor understanding of the technologyÂ’s limits," said IIHS President David Harkey. The study comes as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is scrutinizing Autopilot crashes. Since 2016, the NHTSA has opened 37 special investigations involving 18 deaths in crashes involving Tesla vehicles and where systems like Autopilot were suspected of use. Tesla did not respond to requests for comment. Tesla says Autopilot does not make vehicles autonomous and is intended for use with a fully attentive driver who is prepared to take over. GM, which in August said owners could use Super Cruise on 400,000 miles (643,740 km) of North American roads and plans to offer Super Cruise on 22 models by the end of 2023, did not immediately comment. IIHS said advertisements for Super Cruise focus on hands-free capabilities while Autopilot evokes the name used in passenger airplanes and "implies TeslaÂ’s system is more capable than it really is." IIHS in contrast noted ProPILOT Assist "suggests that itÂ’s an assistance feature, rather than a replacement for the driver." NHTSA and automakers say none of the systems make vehicles autonomous. Nissan said its name "is clearly communicating ProPILOT Assist as a system to aid the driver, and it requires hands-on operation.

GM investing $439 million in Corvette plant

Fri, May 22 2015

General Motors is slowly trickling out announcements about its $5.4 billion in US plant upgrades over the next three years. The latest one is something that fans of one of America's most beloved sports car will be happy about. The Bowling Green, KY, factory that assembles the Chevrolet Corvette is receiving $439 million of those funds to build a new paint shop. Covering 450,000 square-feet, the site will make painting the 'Vette more efficient and environmentally friendly. The upgrades there include robots that use paint more effectively, technology to eliminate sludge water, LED lighting to improve inspections, and less energy-intensive baking ovens. While the groundbreaking is already complete for the building, full construction is expected to begin this summer and take two years. This is the biggest upgrade for the Kentucky factory in a few years. In preparation for the latest Corvette, the Bowling Green plant received $131 million in 2011 for upgrades and to add more workers there. Related Video: Chevrolet Corvette Plant Gets $439 Million in Upgrades New, environment-friendly paint shop drives efficient production, retains 150 jobs 2015-05-21 BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Torch Red, Shark Gray Metallic and Laguna Blue Tintcoat, three popular palate choices on the 2015 Corvette, kept the marketers who make up names working late. Now they can dream about more painstakingly precise pigments, thanks to a new paint shop that is among $439 million being invested at the only plant in the world that builds Chevrolet's iconic sports car. General Motors announced the moves today that include retaining 150 jobs and building the 450,000 square-foot paint shop that is almost half the size of the entire current production facility. The investment builds on approximately $135 million GM has invested in the plant over the last four years for the new Corvette Stingray and Performance Build Center. The announcement was followed by a groundbreaking event for the new paint shop. "The Corvette is one of Kentucky's most-cherished icons," said. Lt. Gov. Crit Luallen. "Such a significant expansion of the Bowling Green Assembly Plant will help the company remain competitive in the region and around the world." Construction of the new paint shop, which includes substantial technology upgrades, is planned to begin this summer and take approximately two years to complete. Corvette production schedules will be unaffected by the construction.
